Yan Su nodded her head.
She too, hoped for that day to arrive—for the child to grow a little older. So she can walk and stay with her parents.
So that she knows how much her parents love and care about her.
“So... we have to get married as soon as possible,” Mo Liuxi added.
Yan Su kept quiet.
They were going to get married as soon as she accepted his proposal?
“You don’t agree with what I said?” Mo Liuxi said matter-of-factly, “If our child grows up and finds out that her parents aren’t even married yet, she would be heartbroken. She might even think of herself as an illegitimate child.”
Yan Su was a little unsettled by what he had just said.
When they had finally reached the airport, he let her out of the car; her lips all swollen from his kisses. “You can go back to Xia City if you’re not used to things at ho. I won’t be around to keep you company. My mother is alright but my father might be a little difficult to get along with.”
“Alright. Have a safe flight. Rember to call when you reach Beijing.”
She was going to Beijing to participate in a television program during the Lunar New Year period, and she had to fly to the States after that for dance choreography practice for her tour later on. The next three months were going to be an intense boot camp session for her.
As she was leaving, she had gotten pretty worried about Mo Liuxi. She felt bad for leaving him alone at her place and she would call him every day.
On the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, the program that she was in had gone on air, and she had a duet with another young singer. They had to hold hands and serenade each other during the performance. Yan Lv called her after watching the program. “Yan Su, let remind you that you have a fiancé. You have to watch your boundaries, even if it’s for your job or performance. If I were Liuxi, I would be very uncomfortable watching you and that singer tonight.”
“Dad, this is all part of my job. You’ve seen work so many tis,” said Yan Su. She thought that she was hearing him wrong.
“How could that be the sa? Things are different now. I didn’t know Liuxi was your boyfriend,” Yan Lv said nonchalantly.
Yan Su rubbed her ears and said, “Dad, since when were you such a big supporter of Liuxi?”
Things were like that when she left on the third day of the Lunar New Year.
“I just think that he’s a pretty good guy after spending more ti with him—he’s a responsible and mature boy. Up until you left, I thought he was just putting on an act, but I’m really taken aback by his performance these couple of days...” Yan Lv was cut off mid-sentence when Jiang Peiying snatched the phone away from him.
“Susu, you haven’t allowed us to rest and enjoy our lives, but Liuxi has.”
Jiang Peiying remarked, “I was so exhausted in the past, even with Auntie Wu’s help. But Liuxi has taken care of every little thing in this house the past couple of days. Your father and I haven’t been in the kitchen at all... not even once! Your aunties are all so envious of . And that’s not even the half of it. Liuxi would spend every minute of his free ti with the baby—he didn’t even know how to bathe, dress or change Yan Yan’s diapers when he arrived, but he’s learned to do all of that now. He has no problem sleeping with her at night now.”
“He talks about howare and ceramics with your father and I. He can also hold a conversation about our country’s history and he’s quite a serious kid—he even takes notes of our conversations on a notepad. He said that he wanted to film a movie about the traditional craftsn of our country so that young people can learn more about our beautiful culture and history. It’s a call for our young people to look into the past for inspiration, and not just at new technology and the digitalization of things. He says that he doesn’t want the essence of our culture to be lost.”
Yan Su was completely speechless.
She couldn’t even begin to describe how she felt at that mont. Were her parents completely brainwashed by Mo Liuxi?
