Shen Wanyu’s sudden punch stunned everyone present.

Including Jiang Linyuan.

In his mory, the Departnt Head was cold by nature, but she rarely resorted to physical violence.

Shen Wanyu looked at Zhang Xiaoxiao without expression:

“I intervened in this matter. Are you suffering from so psychologically induced physiological disorder? How could you provoke a man with the strength of an ape?”

“Departnt Head, the latter half of that sentence is unnecessary.”

Jiang Linyuan couldn’t help but mutter a complaint.

“What provocation!”

Zhang Xiaoxiao clutched her stomach, her face contorted. It was clear Shen Wanyu’s punch had landed hard.

Probably frightened by the force of Shen Wanyu’s blow, she didn’t dare to strike back. Instead she snapped angrily:

“I was helping Bai Yi, what’s that got to do with you?!”

Shen Wanyu said calmly:

“If you really wanted to stop this farce, you should have stepped forward long ago, instead of standing in the crowd with a look of enjoying the show and joining in the jeering.”

Hearing this, Zhang Xiaoxiao panicked for a mont, then imdiately retorted:

“What nonsense are you talking about!?”

After saying that, she turned to Bai Yi:

“Bai Yi, don’t listen to her! I only just ca up!”

Oh?

Plastic best-friend act, shoving soone into the fire pit.

Well, can’t let a best friend have a good day, right?

Jiang Linyuan watched Bai Yi, wondering how she would respond.

Bai Yi glanced at Shen Wanyu, very hesitant, and tugged at Zhang Xiaoxiao’s sleeve:

“Xiaoxiao, stop causing a scene, let’s go. Being confessed to is embarrassing enough…”

Zhang Xiaoxiao suddenly looked up:

“You don’t trust ? Bai Yi? We’ve been best friends for so many years! I even got punched! You’re just going to leave because it’s awkward?!”

Bai Yi avoided looking at her, pressing her lips together:

“But you were the one who bad-mouthed her friend first, and that guy only insulted Gu Ming.”

“Although it was harsh, he was right. I hardly knew him for a few days and then we…”

Zhang Xiaoxiao gripped Bai Yi’s hand tightly, her voice turning plaintive:

“But I was the one who got hit just now, Bai Yi. Before, when you fell into the river, I risked my life to save you. And now you treat

like this?”

Bai Yi’s hand hurt from the squeeze; she wanted to let go but couldn’t, so she whispered:

“What do you want

to do?”

When Zhang Xiaoxiao heard her soften, she resud her smile:

“Bai Yi, you really are my best friend. Call my uncle, tell him you were bullied. Isn’t he the head of this district’s public security bureau?”

“My father is very busy, this kind of thing…”

“Bai Yi, we’re best friends, right?”

Zhang Xiaoxiao grabbed Bai Yi’s hand again, smiling.

Bai Yi felt suffocated under that smile and timidly said:

“Why don’t we explain to them that the girl was standing up for , that she’s a good person, maybe…”

“Bai Yi, it’s decided. I’ll call my uncle, you just say it.”

Zhang Xiaoxiao cut her off forcefully, then turned to Shen Wanyu:

“Heh, looks like you’re still a university student. Today big sister will show you who you can ss with and who you can’t touch…”

“Your future depends on just one call.”

As she said this, she took out her phone as if to contact soone.

Gu Ming, puffed up with pride at the side, looked at Jiang Linyuan:

“Bai Yi’s father is the head of the district bureau. Your girlfriend’s punch is a big deal.”

After overhearing the conversation, Jiang Linyuan’s expression turned odd.

In the real world, connections really matter.

But how powerful does a background have to be to be truly intimidating?

Even bleeding out might not make you as red as soone else.

“Head of the district bureau?”

Su Muzhi, who had been sitting off to the side watching, suddenly looked bored and asked Bai Yi:

“What’s your surna?”

“Huh? Bai, why?”

Bai Yi hesitated for a second, but still answered.

“A host controlled by parasites is rare.”

Su Muzhi snorted coldly, stretched, and stood up:

“This is my first ti hiking to see the sunrise, I’ve had my fun. Don’t ruin my mood any longer.”

She said this, tapped her phone a few tis, and handed it to Bai Yi:

“Answer the call, put it on speaker so that the parasite beside you can hear too.”

Bai Yi didn’t know who Su Muzhi was, but this commanding manner left her unsure how to refuse. She took the phone.

“Hello? Is this Mrs. Su? Who is calling at this late hour?”

A calm middle-aged man’s voice sounded from the other end. Hearing it, both Zhang Xiaoxiao and Bai Yi froze.

“Dad?”

Bai Yi exclaid.

There was a pause on the other end, then the man asked hesitantly:

“Ms. Su, is Bai Yi beside you?”

“I had a little disagreent with your daughter’s friend.”

Su Muzhi said lightly.

“I understand. Sorry, Ms. Su. My Bai Yi is rather naive and can be easily deceived by so unscrupulous people. Please don’t take it to heart.”

The man on the other end responded quickly:

“If she offended you in any way, I apologize…”

“Heh, family discipline is not my concern. Call your daughter and have her speak for herself.”

Su Muzhi replied nonchalantly.

“Understood. Thank you for your understanding.”

After that, the call ended, and Bai Yi’s phone buzzed.

She handed the phone back to Su Muzhi, flustered, and answered:

“Mm… mm… okay… it’s nothing, it’s Xiaoxiao, it should be fine.”

Zhang Xiaoxiao and Gu Ming, whose calls still hadn’t connected, stared dumbfounded at the scene, feeling surreal, as if dreaming.

Am I in the heavenly court or what?

Bai Yi looked at Zhang Xiaoxiao, tugged her hand, and whispered:

“Dad said if we can apologize then apologize. If not, then don’t make an enemy out of them.”

Zhang Xiaoxiao forced a smile, realizing she had truly offended soone she couldn’t afford to. She didn’t dare to argue and led Bai Yi away to a more distant spot.

“Heh, Shen Wanyu, I helped you once, you owe .”

Su Muzhi stood beside Shen Wanyu, smiling brightly.

“Thank you.”

Shen Wanyu looked at her and said seriously.

Su Muzhi was montarily stunned, then her mouth curved into a smile:

“You only thanked . Aren’t you going to thank Jiang-classmate too?”

Shen Wanyu turned her head to the pale dawn sky:

“That’s none of your business.”

“Heh.”
