When Dugu Bo saw that Tang Yin was about to leave, he thought of his granddaughter's shy deanor from just monts ago. Although nothing had yet developed between the two, Dugu Bo felt there was potential and quickly called out to Tang Yin.
"Tang Yin, take my granddaughter with you when you go back. As her grandfather, I feel a little uneasy about her returning to the academy alone."
"Of course, if you don't want to leave tonight, you're welco to stay. I'll gladly leave my granddaughter in your capable hands."
With that, Dugu Bo patted Tang Yin on the shoulder with a aningful expression.
Then, in an instant, he disappeared and returned to his secret chamber to continue working on his poison, which he planned to use against Tang Hao.
Tang Yin shook his head, paying little attention to Dugu Bo's words, and turned to walk out.
After all, given their current dynamic, it was unlikely for things to progress between him and Dugu Yan. Unless she had a falling-out with Yu Tianheng or developed feelings for him, deepening their relationship would be challenging. He dismissed Dugu Bo's comnts from his mind.
Outside, Dugu Yan was waiting.
She was mulling over how her grandfather was still trying to match her with Tang Yin, just as before. Her thoughts wandered to Tang Yin's impressive strength and the inexplicable way he had been occupying her mind recently.
For reasons she couldn't quite understand, Dugu Yan stood awkwardly, repeatedly kicking a pillar in front of her. Her face alternated between a frown, as though angry, and a soft, sweet smile.
Given a bit more ti, she might have kicked right through the pillar.
"Honestly, how could Grandpa say such ridiculous things?"
"I don't even like Tang Yin, and yet he keeps trying to pair us together. But... why does his image keep popping into my mind lately?"
"Ugh, it's so annoying."
"But Grandpa is so adamant about this. He's practically ordering to get closer to him. What am I supposed to do? What would Tianheng think if he found out?"
Dugu Yan felt conflicted as she reflected on her grandfather's insistence.
And yet… she couldn't deny that thoughts of Tang Yin kept resurfacing, and, deep down, she felt a flicker of anticipation. What unsettled her most was that she didn't dislike Tang Yin. Instead, his distant attitude annoyed her.
If she were with Yu Tianheng, he would go along with whatever she wanted, always saying sweet things to make her happy.
But Tang Yin? He barely acknowledged her unless it was absolutely necessary, making her feel as though she didn't matter to him at all. This realization left her quietly fuming.
"Does he not like at all?"
The thought sprang unbidden into her mind, making her feel uneasy.
She shook her head. "No, that can't be it. If he didn't like , why would he agree to Grandpa's suggestion? He must be pretending. Yes, that's it—he's just pretending."
With that, Dugu Yan convinced herself.
As she stopped kicking the pillar and turned around, she suddenly noticed Tang Yin standing behind her. Startled, she let out a small gasp.
"You… how long have you been standing there?" Dugu Yan asked, her face flushing. She wondered if he had overheard everything she said.
The thought made her even more flustered, and she avoided eting his gaze.
"Let's go back to the academy," Tang Yin said calmly. "Your grandfather asked to escort you so you don't run into any trouble on the way."
Without waiting for her reply, he turned and began walking.
He had indeed overheard what Dugu Yan had just said.
What he hadn't expected was how many strange thoughts were swirling around in her mind.
Truly, won would always be won.
"Tang Yin!"
Dugu Yan, frustrated that Tang Yin once again left without clearly addressing her, stomped her foot angrily before hurrying to catch up with him.
On the way back.
Dugu Yan stole glances at Tang Yin from ti to ti, her heart filled with questions she wanted to ask him. But she hesitated, unsure how to voice them.
Finally, she couldn't hold it in anymore and blurted out her questions in a rush.
"When did you et my grandfather?"
"Why has he never ntioned you to ?"
"How are you so powerful?"
"How did you develop your strength?"
"Oh, and I heard you have a soul skill that can boost cultivation speed—is that true?"
Dugu Yan's words ca tumbling out one after another like an unrelenting stream, as though she had been holding them in for too long.
Tang Yin glanced at her, mildly surprised by her barrage of questions. He hadn't expected her to be so talkative, but her inquiries weren't exactly secrets, so he answered without hesitation.
"I t your grandfather about six years ago."
"At that ti, he was badly beaten by soone."
"He couldn't even fight back—he was utterly defeated and had to run for his life."
"Later, he returned to seek revenge but realized he still wasn't strong enough. That's when I helped him settle the score."
"Part of the reason he was able to break through to level ninety-two is thanks to ."
"Your grandfather should've told you about this already."
"As for why he wants to match us up, it's because he sees potential in my talent. Also, I helped him neutralize the green-scaled snake venom. That ans I saved not just him but also you."
"As for how I beca so strong, if you really want to know, co to my room soti. I'll let you experience it firsthand, and then we can talk in detail."
"As for the rest of your questions, they don't need an answer."
Tang Yin finished speaking and said no more.
Dugu Yan's reaction.
Hearing Tang Yin's words, Dugu Yan's face was full of astonishnt.
She couldn't doubt him—her grandfather had already ntioned so of this to her. Tang Yin had simply added a bit more detail.
Still, she hadn't expected her grandfather, soone she regarded as imnsely powerful, to have once been beaten so thoroughly. And to think it had taken Tang Yin's help to exact revenge!
But what did Tang Yin an about going to his room to experience his strength? Could he be implying…?
Dugu Yan, being no naïve girl, didn't take long to understand the double aning.
She let out a soft "hmph" and muttered under her breath, "Who wants to go to your room and do those things?"
Despite her words, she quickened her pace slightly, her cheeks tinged red.
Although his tone carried a teasing edge, she wasn't genuinely angry. Instead, she felt a strange flicker of joy in her chest—a feeling she didn't quite understand herself.
As they continued walking.
Unable to resist, Dugu Yan asked Tang Yin a few more questions.
Tang Yin answered when he felt it appropriate, dodging the ones he deed unnecessary.
Most of the conversation consisted of Dugu Yan asking questions, trying to piece together more about Tang Yin's life and abilities.
Though her grandfather had already shared so details, this was her first ti learning about Tang Yin directly from him—and in much greater depth.
What Dugu Yan didn't realize was that with every word she learned about him, Tang Yin's importance in her heart grew.
The constant thought of her grandfather's insistence on pairing her with Tang Yin—and the commanding way he brought it up—only solidified Tang Yin's place in her mind.
By now, Tang Yin's presence in her heart felt even heavier, impossible to ignore.
