"Father, Mother. Welco." StoneSword, or Peter greeted them courtly. Rebecca also curtsied beside him, greeting them with a smile.
"Peter… How have you been?" Scott asked curiously without changing his expression.
"I am fine. Thank you for asking, Father."
"That's good. Don't work too hard. Use your subordinates well and have enough rest." Nicole added.
"I will rember that, Mother."
As they conversed, Max approached them with Lily. Even when StoneSword had already accepted him, his status was after all still Lily's boyfriend and not her fiance yet. He had no formal position in the family and had to be introduced.
"Welco, Father, Mother." Lily also greeted them, bowing while holding her skirt like a noble in the past.
"Hmm, you're also here, Lily," Scott said before turning his attention to Max, who clearly stood next to him. "And is he…"
The man didn't finish his sentence and waited for Lily. She noticed it and continued.
"Yes, he's my partner."
That was Max's cue.
"My na is Max Charles. Pleased to et you, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer." He bowed slightly to show his respect toward them.
Scott cast his narrowed eyes on him. Looking straight at them, Max didn't budge down and was determined not to look away. That would be disrespectful toward the man.
After a while, the Spencer family head nodded. He put on a flat expression again, but the wife smiled softly at Max and said.
"Take care of our daughter."
"I will do my best," Max responded and saw them leave.
StoneSword followed them quickly and left Max and Lily alone, but not before whispering sothing.
"Great job. Now you can just enjoy the party with Lily."
That was… underwhelming but nerve-wracking.
'Did that an I passed their judgnt?'
And… They didn't seem to be indifferent toward Lily. Scott was more like…
'Awkward. And Nicole seed to care about Lily but couldn't express it in words.'
"We did it, Max." Lily smiled brightly as she got close to him.
"Yes, we did." He answered and smiled back at her.
It ended just like that, right?

There was nothing to do but enjoy the party as it continued. Scott and Nicole were talking about businesses with the relatives and guests. As the heir, StoneSword also joined the conversation.
anwhile, Max and Lily escaped to another room to rest. This room was provided for the guests in case they were overwheld. And they were pretty much tired already. When StoneSword left, many people took that advantage to try and get close to Lily.
Max did his job pretty well at making those people retreat. He used his old knowledge to deal with them by flattering them to the point they felt uncomfortable.
"Phew, that was tiring." Max sighed as he threw himself on the couch, popped open a cold can of cola, and drank it.
"Good job, Max. And thank you for protecting ." Lily sat close to him slowly. Her dress limited her movent quite a bit even when it was designed to make sure the wearer wasn't uncomfortable.
"You look pretty experienced at dealing with people like them."
"Well…" He smiled wryly at her, unable to find an honest answer without telling her about his past life. So, he had to get creative. "I just did what I think makes uncomfortable. And that actually worked. I was a bit surprised, honestly."
"I see." Lily nodded innocently, believing what he said.
Max felt a little bit guilty for lying, but he had no choice.
Anyway, all the burdens he felt before were lifted. The quest hadn't arrived yet, but he could wait without worrying about it being a difficult one… He hoped.
Ding!
As if responding to his wish, a notification rang in his ear. It was the kind of notification that excited him, as it ca from the system and not his smartwatch.
