To use the taming device, Max had to get the monster's acknowledgent first. The wooden token was just a saddle compressed into a small space, a wonder of strange technological advancent in this ga world.
'In short, it's just useless junk that didn't help the taming process at all.'
Facing the growling Catlapu, Max tried to find out its strengths and weaknesses. The monster circled against him, walking near the fence covering the large field. For so reason, it didn't run away.
Old Man Rig overseed everything to ensure nothing went wrong.
"You can start anyti, fool!"
Hearing his words, Max rushed forward. He knew nothing would change just by standing around doing nothing. He would test the Catlapu directly.
His sword tore the air. He could now swing it as easily as swinging a wooden one. The weight felt so light.
Seeing the attack, Catlapu moved its head forward and blocked the sword with its study horns.
Clang!
Spark flew everywhere, and Max's sword bounced off. He saw the monster already attacked with its sharp claws that jutted out from its paw.
"ooow!"
It was fast. Nothing seed to be able to stop it.
Facing it, Max rolled forward and dodged the attack. He imdiately sent a counter slash from below its belly.
"That won't do, fool!"
Just as he heard Old Man Rig's shout, he noticed three tails had already swung toward him. He couldn't react to it and got hit.
"Argh!"
His body was sent flying a few ters away. He only stopped after rolling a few tis.
"Catlapu looks chubby, but it's fast. There is a reason why rcenaries love to have it as a mount! Use your brain! You are there to ta it, not to kill it!"
Ta it and not kill it.
Max's eyes widened slightly as he realized what he did was wrong. He was going to show his strength by injuring the Catlapu. But that was a wrong choice. That was why the monster retaliated strongly.
'Co to think of it, this Catlapu didn't attack and just circled around as if observing .'
At that mont, he rembered Old Man Rig's words. There were two ways to ta the monster. One was through fear, and the other was with food.
"I understand now." He exclaid and sheathed his sword.
"Heh, it seems you're not as big as a fool. Do it, small fool!"
— What fool?
— Fool -> Courageous Fool -> small fool. The title has increased again!
— What did he realize? Am I stupid for not understanding it?
— Don't worry, we are all big fools. We have small brain.
"How can you not understand it, chat?" Max shook his head in disappointnt and shrugged his shoulders. "It's so simple. The clue is with Old Man Rig's words and what he showed before giving the wooden token. It's also written in the quest's reward."
He walked toward the Catlapu that purred and licked its paw. It seed to forget about Max already. Or rather, it didn't really care and had no intention to hurt him from the start. All he did was simple.
"This monster has been tad by Old Man Rig. I just need to make it acknowledge as its new master. What it did earlier was just play, giving its paw and tail." He explained. "And yeah… I don't need to kill it or even hurt it, but ta it by playing with it!"
Hearing his explanation, the chat burst into a fury.
— This guy is smart
— I didn't realize that. That's one way to explain it.
— But didn't that monster attack you with its claw? How could you think that it's only playing?
— Yeah, I was confused. I thought the monster tried to kill him
"Well, it's simple…"
Max chuckled evilly as he stopped in front of Catlapu. It observed him and purred without giving any sign of attacking.
Looking at it, he continued, "A cat is a creature like that. It would scratch its owner to show its love! Yes, a cat's scratch is proof of love. This monster loves already."
Slowly, Max extended his hand that was holding the wooden token toward the Catlapu. He was hoping it would stay still like now and accepted it.
"Good boy. Be my mount, alright?"
The monster looked back at him with its golden eyes. It looked at his face first before turning to the extended hand. A soft tongue jutted out from its slightly opened mouth. And then…
"Nya!"
It opened its mouth wide and tried to bite Max's hand, thinking it was a treat. He imdiately retracted it and jumped back.
"Bad cat! Stay still!" He shouted. "Sorry, guys, I have mistaken the mission assignnt! This fucker isn't ta at all!" He said as he landed a bit away from where he stood before.
Catlapu looked at him and licked its paw as if mocking him. The purr was louder than before, sounding like it was laughing.
— The cat is ta, guys. I can fix it!
— Catlapu: Are you sure about that?! *proceed to bite*
— Nah, Breeze's arm looks too delicious. That's why it wanted a taste
— I like his confidence, only to see him fail next.
— lmao, I laughed when Catlapu tried to bite him. ROFL ROFL ROFL
"Ugh, what did I do wrong?" He asked himself.
Old Man Rig only sighed from the side. He seed to have enough.
"Even if it's tad, it's still a monster! They only have the law of the jungle! Those on top are superior. It's that simple!" The old man bellowed, "I won't help anymore. Just fucking ride it!"
"Ah, fine. Let's not think too much!"
Max had enough and just followed what Old Man Rig told him. He rushed toward Catlapu, which lowered its guard considerably.
"I just need to ride it, right?!"
When he got close, he leaped upward. His body soared in the air and landed on the fat cat's back.
"Nyaa!!"
Feeling sothing strange on its body, Catlapu owed loudly. Its fur stood up, and it began to trash around. Max did his best to hold onto its fur. His body was thrown around, but he stayed on top. A smile unexpectedly adorned his face.
"Yahoo!"
For him, this was like a rodeo, sothing he often played with his friends before he got into an accident.
"Co on! Is this your limit? You're pretty weak, huh?! I thought you were stronger!"
"Grrr!" Catlapu growled in displeasure and began to jump around. It shook its body in order to get rid of the annoying person on its back.
— What is this?
— A rodeo! It's a rodeo!
— Breeze: Fork it, I will just ride it. Get over here, you little cat!
Catlapu kept thrashing around for a while. It showed an irritated expression that slowly changed into a playful one. Before long, it slowed down and actually ran around the field.
"Look at that. You can do it!" Old Man Rig laughed loudly when he saw what happened. "Now, use that wooden token, fool!"
"Yeah!"
Max imdiately pushed the wooden token on Catpalu's back and activated the chanism. Instantly, it expanded and bound the monster's belly with a sturdy rope. The back part beca a squishy stable. When he sat on it, he couldn't really feel the vibration from Catpalu's movent anymore.
[Old Man's Favor completed!]
[Reward: 1,500 Gills, 1 tad monster.]
[Mutated Catpalu has been tad! It will now follow your command.]
[Now you can na Mutated Catpalu.]
A notification rang, and so was his chat. It moved so fast with so suspicious text.
— TOO EASY!
— Ta it by riding it. Co on baby
— Move your back! I am on top of you, sweetheart!
— Guys, stop it! Seriously! It's a freaking fat monster cat!
— Tsk tsk tsk, boys be boys. But damn! He did a rodeo and actually tad that Catpalu!
— I need that mutated Catpalu too! On my way to creating my second world!
The chat could be ignored right now. Max focused on reading the notification and tried to command it.
"Stop."
The monster actually stopped and sat on its four legs, lowering its back. He climbed down and stroked its fur happily.
"Good job, Catpalu. You're tar than I thought."
"ow~" The monster replied as if it could understand him. It turned to face him and licked his body.
"Hey, that tickles!" Max exclaid, "And it's gross. Your saliva now covers ."
Even so, he laughed. He looked at the notification that was still hovering in front of him.
'A na, huh?' He mused.
