Chapter 420: Chapter 329: Mrs. Duan
Duan Mingyuan was a guest who had traveled from afar, and Baptism naturally hoped that he would leave so wonderful mories in Holy City. However, things did not go as hoped; on the first day, he had visited two of the most boring places.
If Baptism were to write a guidebook for Holy City tourism, the Holy City Library and the Choir’s performance would be listed as the least popular attractions.
When the group returned to Baptism’s mansion, it was surrounded by people.
The butler stood solemnly at the doorway, blocking the visitors’ path with tape.
The visitors were not from Holy City; the man leading them was wearing the signature uniform of a company, with the crest of the Iron Guard Consortium on his chest, followed by two armored guards, who stood like guardian deities behind him.
"What has happened again?"
Jiuyue looked at Baptism with confusion. "Has your house been cursed recently?"
First, it was the parasitic virus, and now the Iron Guard Consortium’s people were paying attention to them. At the eting before their departure, the Third Prince had ntioned the people of the Iron Guard Consortium, describing them as perhaps the most rude and disrespectful group in the company.
She had started to consider whether to recomnd so exorcism masters to Baptism.
As they slowly approached, the group finally heard what the man was saying.
"We are really not suspicious persons; we are friends of Mr. Mingyuan."
This was a lie.
Duan Mingyuan did not understand why the representative of the Iron Guard Consortium would say such a lie that would be exposed imdiately—he did not know this man and, strictly speaking, his reputation in the Long Branch Committee was currently on hostile terms.
Before he could even speak, Jiuyue couldn’t help but stand out.
"Don’t listen to their nonsense; Mr. Mingyuan does not know people from the Iron Guard Consortium!"
Seeing that their lie was exposed on the spot, the man, rather than getting angry, suddenly brightened up upon seeing Jiuyue and stepped forward obsequiously, saying, "Ah, this must be Mrs. Duan Mingyuan, right? I’ve long heard that Mrs. Duan is stunningly beautiful, and indeed, seeing is believing!"
Jiuyue glanced at the man, then at the butler blocking the doorway, and after so hesitation, changed her statent, "Perhaps they are not entirely bad; maybe they do know Mr. Mingyuan."
At least, this company representative was honest.
This was an extrely rare trait within the company.
Being addressed as Mrs. Duan and described as stunningly beautiful pleased her, as she liked dealing with honest people.
Posing as Mrs. Duan she asked, "You are representatives of the Iron Guard Consortium, right?"
"To be precise, I am the commander of the Seventh Battalion, Billy Kaman."
The man gave Jiuyue a standard military salute. "My brother has told
a lot about your achievents. We are grateful for your care, and I represent the Kaman Family to extend deep thanks to you."
As he spoke, Billy Kaman signaled to one of the Long Branch Guards.
The armored guard imdiately stepped forward and presented a gift to Jiuyue.
"This is a token of affection from Sister Norton, inside are the most popular costics from recent quarters."
"Norton..."
Jiuyue stared at the gift package, pondering for a mont before realizing, "Oh, so you are the brother of Prison Governor Norton!"
During her ti on Prison Planet, Norton had ntioned he was born into a large family.
Although the Prison Governor and Mr. Owl were kicked out of the core eting group due to their limited abilities, in Jiuyue’s eyes, the two were considered mbers of an auxiliary squad.
"Yes, it was . I was quite frightened when I saw that young Norton had been shot. Later, he told
over the phone about Mr. Mingyuan’s superb dical skills; I had wanted to et you guys for a while."
The two exchanged pleasantries at the door, a scene that seed sowhat inconsistent with the Third Prince’s investigation.
In the information provided by the Third Prince, the Iron Guard Consortium was mostly rough people, akin to those who would have much in common with Earth Wolf Twelve.
Of course, Mr. Earth Wolf Twelve imdiately raised objections during the eting.
"I am indeed part of a high-quality crowd!"
The above were Earth Wolf Twelve’s self-defense; he claid that it was hard to find soone more polite than him among the Rangers.
"Is there sothing you ca to see my husband about?"
A smile blossod on Jiuyue’s face, polite yet graceful. She had completely embraced her role as a lady of high society, as if this were a conversation at a noble’s dinner party.
"This isn’t the place to talk. Could we find sowhere quieter?"
As he spoke, his eyes almost seed to point out the mansion radiating cool air.
This was the only place in the entire Holy City church district with air conditioning.
"Alright, since you are friends of old Duan, co on in."
Baptism crossed her arms, thereby completing her evaluation of this unexpected group.
At least for the next few years, Duan Mingyuan would be her best friend, and whether he could continue to be her lifelong friend afterward would depend on whether Duan Mingyuan would help her install newly produced ho entertainnt systems.
However, Baptism always had full confidence in her good friends.
The eting room was finally set in one of the air-conditioned rooms on the second floor. The night after the Pope and his party left, Duan Mingyuan had helped renovate Baptism’s mansion, which made him nearly perfect in the eyes of the servants. Their only fault with him was that Duan Mingyuan was not a mber of the Ashen Church.
"Mr. Mingyuan, I ca to see you in a personal capacity this ti. I assu you’ve already heard why we ca to the Holy City."
After sitting down, Billy Kaman politely began.
Duan Mingyuan was noncommittal.
Simply put, Universe Company planned to use this opportunity to hold a high-level eting akin to the "Five Shadows eting" in the Holy City, where the real heavyweights of the company, long overdue, were genuinely discussing issues related to Shanqi Comrce Association, United Front, and more for the first ti.
However, given Billy Kaman’s military rank, he would probably only be an auxiliary mber of the eting. When their ships entered Star Harbor at the Holy City, they saw the Iron Guard Consortium’s fleet stationed around the periter.
"Before I start, I want you to take a look at this."
Billy Kaman took out a tablet and played a video he had prepared.
In the video, an assault ship relentlessly crashed into a vessel flying the Adventurers’ Association’s flag, instantly filling the screen with the light and noise of an explosion.
This was not a scene from a special effects movie; the assault ship bore the Iron Guard Consortium’s emblem.
"This happened a day ago. The attack was launched by one of my officers,"
Billy sadly shook his head. The severity of the explosion undoubtedly claid the lives of everyone on the ship. "At that ti, he disregarded my order, acting unilaterally to attack the Adventurers’ Association’s ship. I ca here to consult you about so dical matters... Is there a possibility that a disease or so other interference affected his judgnt, leading him to disobey orders?"
