Chapter 368: Chapter 287: The Prophet

Resting her head on the soft fox tail, Jiuyue felt as if she had briefly returned to her childhood.

She squinted her eyes, enjoying the rare tranquility.

What surprised her even more was that her mother rely expressed concern about the path she had chosen and did not make any disparaging comnts about the marriage.

She had thought up a dozen or so reasons to persuade her elders and had even prepared her trump card.

"I thought you would be against it."

"Against what?"

"Against this marriage,"

Jiuyue said.

At least that’s how it usually went in most of the TV dramas she had watched recently, where the daughter brings ho a lover and the family does everything they can to obstruct it, ending in an unhappy parting. This realization had made her quite nervous for a long ti.

"Why would we be against it?"

Jiuyue’s mother seed to not understand and even tenderly placed her palm on Jiuyue’s forehead to check her temperature.

Hmm, there were no signs of illness or fever.

"Like the idea of ’humans and monsters are different paths’ or sothing..."

For many, it was a deep-seated notion. In the past on Blue Star, there was a regular person who fell in love with a snake demon, only for a bald monk to co out of nowhere, forcefully ending the relationship and confining the snake demon in a tower. This caused Jiuyue to have little affection for the profession of being a monk from her childhood.

At least on Blue Star, marriages between different races were not blessed.

"I don’t like to do aningless things,"

Jiuyue’s mother said indifferently, "Once a fox demon has set its heart on soone, it absolutely will not let go easily."

She understood the nature of fox demons, especially that of Calamity Foxes.

Jiuyue had completely inherited her character in that aspect.

Monsters typically live much longer than humans. In ancient tis, there were cases where a fox demon chose a person and stayed by their side for several lifetis until the fox demon’s own life ca to an end.

However, such thods that disturbed the cycle of reincarnation would often have a significant impact on the surroundings, until bringing forth disaster.

This was also the initial origin of the Calamity Fox.

Only those fox demons who could peek into the threads of reincarnation and karma were called Calamity Foxes.

"Even if I confine you here, forcing you two apart, you would surely think of ways to defy . Besides, I have always had an open attitude toward these issues. As long as you are happy and that child is not a real cannibal, there is nothing to oppose."

This encounter had dispelled their last concerns.

"I knew my mother was the best!"

Jiuyue’s face lit up with joy as she buried it in the fluffy tail. She had many stories about Mr. Mingyuan that she loved to share; she could talk about them all day long.

anwhile, Duan Mingyuan had also finished touring the plantation that his father-in-law had personally built over the years.

There were fruits and vegetables, as well as a tea garden.

They kept chickens and ducks on the mountain, and the Departnt of Life Sciences was generous in eting all of their requests when it ca to the details of life.

The entire mountain was theirs, and because life there was too leisurely, they had to find things to enrich their lives.

Away from the ancestral hall, his father-in-law’s expression suddenly beca serious.

He did not call Duan Mingyuan all this way just for so trivial matters of daily life.

When an elder who is always cheerful suddenly turns serious, it carries a certain oppressive feeling.

He asked, "Was the speech you just delivered your true thoughts, or did you hold back because Jiuyue was present?"

He was naturally referring to Duan Mingyuan’s past and his explanation of his own strength.

Having the power to challenge corporations and chambers of comrce, yet with an unknown origin, the very matter was filled with doubt.

Duan Mingyuan could only refer to He Ya’s interpretation to a certain extent.

The power of the "Cocoon" usually worked in the sa way.

Without the process of cultivation and accumulation, the mont they beca conscious, they already possessed so form of control over the laws of nature.

"I have heard several explanations, but I cannot confirm any for the ti being,"

Duan Mingyuan replied truthfully.

The experts in the field of Life Sciences considered his past experiences to be more like a fully grown dark mire, while He Ya thought he was more akin to a distorted "Cocoon".

"Unable to confirm..."

His father-in-law seed pensive.

In fact, having heard of Duan Mingyuan’s various deeds, he could not help but think of an ancient prophecy.

He composed his words and said, "You have been to the Imperial Court, so you should understand the situation there."

Duan Mingyuan was noncommittal.

"Then, you must also know of an assassin organization called Yin Die."

"An institution under the control of the Second Prince, which was disbanded after the succession struggle ca to an end."

The cultivation thods of Yin Die assassins were considered inhumane; they were indoctrinated into the organization from the ti they could rember, learning thods of killing and interrogation, and to gain powerful Life Energy in a short ti, they also had to regularly inject a drug provided by the company.

This drug was no different from forcing growth, and the cost of enhancing energy was a greatly reduced lifespan.

The natural life expectancy of a Yin Die assassin was no more than forty years, which of course was sufficient for those in power and also avoided problems with pension and retirent.

They were like sharp blades, to be discarded directly after use.

One of the first things the Third Prince did after gaining power was to abolish this institution, henceforth forbidding any such training thods and classifying those drugs as banned substances.

"In fact, the history of Yin Die dates further back than the Second Prince, established during the end of the war with the Extraterrestrials."

His father-in-law exclaid.

This was a secret he learned earlier in his life during his travels, when he passed through the Imperial Court.

He had spent so ti in the Imperial Dining Room, where most of the chefs had been there since they were young, with their ancestors also having been Imperial Chefs within the court, thus they knew many secrets unknown to others.

Whenever they drank themselves into high spirits, they would recount so little-known tales of the past.

"Initially, Yin Die was specifically ford to target the Extraterrestrials’ commanders, but with the end of the war, they were taken into the Imperial Court along with the Pri Monarch, becoming the company’s hounds. The company placed great value on this organization, continuing the tradition until now."

At this point, he paused for a mont before continuing, "And all this was because of a prophecy."

"A prophecy?"

"The prophecy stated that hundreds of years in the future, Blue Star would see the rise of an extraordinary individual capable of driving out the Extraterrestrials from this land, and the one who foretold this urged the Pri Monarch to preserve his strength, especially to continue the legacy of the Strange Gates and Devious Techniques."

This was an unverifiable prediction that spanned hundreds of years.

At that ti, most people who heard the prophecy doubted its authenticity, appearing more like self-comfort after defeat, postponing hope to the future.

Back then, the Imperial Chefs treated it as a joke, telling him and scoffing that hundreds of years had passed, yet the company remained unchanged, and the Pri Monarch had beco a head that needed to survive on life-support devices.

Yet today, so ten years later, this centuries-spanning prophecy had seemingly co true.
