Chapter 353: Chapter 272: Arduous Mission
This night, many people were suffering from insomnia.
They focused their attention on the Prison Planet, eagerly hoping to hear so good news the next day.
The prison did not keep them waiting too long—early the next morning, when the smart guy appeared on the screen again, ready to start the second day of escape preparations, the Mandala Consortium’s executives smashed their coffee cups in anger. They were not accustod to experiencing failure, especially when they believed they had made an irresistible offer.
This ant they had to face the gamblers, wracking their brains to co up with another excuse to placate them.
They did not understand what was up with Duan Mingyuan, nor why this person just couldn’t fulfill everyone’s wishes, just once.
According to the traditions of the Blue Star People, his parents-in-law were on board the flagship of the Life Science Departnt. Didn’t this man realize that once he missed their invitation, there would never be another chance?
Another one raging was the commander of the Specters.
He received the news later than the Shan Clan People. He knew the sergeant hadn’t died, and 37 had not acted against him in the cover of night. This was completely out of character for 37 and clearly showed her attitude towards the matter.
A re sergeant was nothing to fear; what really sent the commander into a panic was the ssage brought by the sergeant.
The Digitalized World was becoming a reality, and leading it all might be the true chanical Pioneer.
And he knew he was a fake.
Having not heard the ssage left by the Pioneer, all decisions were made out of his own interest.
The identity of the Angel Envoy was too useful, allowing him to manipulate hearts without any effort.
But lies always have a day when they are exposed. The commander had not yet finished enjoying the conveniences that power brought him, and he also knew exactly what his end would be once his people discovered the truth.
So...
The only path left for him was now clear.
All Specters involved in this action had betrayed them, and it was Sergeant Lau-Duan who had incited this betrayal. He imdiately made this information public, urgently hoping that every cyborg would know about it and then refuse to listen to anything they said.
The most innocent were the other team mbers involved in the action.
They had not joined the etings and didn’t know what had happened; they had suddenly beco traitors after waking up.
Their connection with the headquarters had been unilaterally severed and they could foresee what would happen next—once they left this place, agents tasked with eliminating them would imdiately find them.
Before this, they had eliminated many traitors for the organization, and now they truly understood the taste of being branded as traitors.
But life had to go on. After smashing their coffee cups and raging, the executives of the Mandala Consortium had to take a pause.
Perhaps the current situation of the two Fox Demons on the Eco-Ship could make these stubborn Blue Star People change their minds.
Thus, early this morning, Fu Ling received a daunting order.
The Consortium’s executives wanted her to et with Jiuyue’s parents, then record the process of their eting on video. Most importantly, they needed to show how desperately they wished to see their daughter.
The final task was for her, as a "friend," to send the video to both of them.
Fu Ling thought the executives did not understand the aning of the word "friend," but she let it go after a second thought.
The Shan Clan People had no friends, nor did anyone wish to befriend a group only interested in profits, and in this regard, many of their partners were of no help.
She had just managed to maintain a good relationship with Blue Star and certainly didn’t want to be the bad guy for the sake of other departnts’ interest.
The casino had nothing to do with the Departnt of Life Sciences, and she had always looked down upon those bosses who profited from exploiting people’s gambling habits—most of whom were Shan Clan People—while she was an outsider.
Fu Ling felt that inviting Duan Mingyuan to the academic summit at this sensitive ti had possibly already brought her so criticism from the Blue Star People. Furthermore, she genuinely hoped to introduce Duan Mingyuan to other researchers at the Life Science Academic Summit. She believed this academic discussion would broaden everyone’s horizons, and she also believed that Duan Mingyuan would love the atmosphere of the summit.
What made Fu Ling even more annoyed was that this order was not conveyed to her personally by the Consortium’s top executives. Once again, it was her assistant, with a haughty attitude, who announced the latest decision from the executives to her.
This assistant was arranged for her by the Consortium’s executives. Her trusted one had stayed in Cloud Cage City on Blue Star to oversee the company’s business affairs on the planet. In the departnt’s terms, this was to maintain balance.
The assistant was a bona fide Shan Clan mber and naturally inherited all of the Shan Clan’s flaws.
"According to the supervisor’s upcoming schedule..."
"I have a video conference soon, this minor issue can be handled by your visit alone."
Fu Ling cut off her own assistant; she suddenly had an idea.
This person was not even selected from within the Departnt of Life Sciences but was appointed from the "upper departnt" after she accepted the position of ntor.
This was an existence that couldn’t be of much help in daily work but was notably adept at conveying the Consortium’s will and "regulating" her many actions.
The assistant had no interest in the professional issues of the Departnt of Life Sciences and had not even thoroughly explored every area on the Eco-Ship.
"When you get there, just say I sent you."
"You don’t understand, the executives expect you personally to..."
"I’ve already told you, I have an important video conference next, which involves cooperation matters of the Life Science Departnt on thirteen planets. Are you saying you can replace
in this eting and decide the departnt’s strategy for the coming years?"
This questioning left the assistant speechless.
Fu Ling then questioned further, "Or are you saying you, as my assistant, can’t even handle this small task? Go to the Eco-zone, find those two Fox Demons, explain the situation, have them cooperate with you in front of the cara, and say a few words. I can’t think of anything simpler than this job."
She spoke with righteousness, but any old staff mber who had been in the Departnt of Life Sciences for a few years knew just how daunting this task really was.
Fox Demons were not the "lab mice" as they knew them; on Blue Star, the Calamity Fox had once been a scourge.
To provoke the Calamity Fox was to invite trouble.
This was the compulsory lesson for every newcor to the Eco-Ship.
The assistant was appointed by the Consortium’s executives, and it wasn’t convenient for Fu Ling to reprimand him directly, but she believed the Calamity Fox would teach him a good lesson.
"What are you still standing there for?"
Fu Ling asked, "Or do you need
to teach you how to use the video recording tools by hand as well?"
