Chapter 784: Chapter 784: Demon Lizard
A gigantic lizard as big as Godzilla, covered in spikes, with black and white patterns on its body.
The Secret Spirit fighting it is an equally enormous Sand Turtle, its body the color of sandstone.
The two giant beasts fight unrestrainedly in the desert, and when Chen Guan sees halos appearing on their bodies, he imdiately retreats rapidly.
These halos, resembling the light behind a Buddha, are not ordinary Primordial Energy glows but rather Secret Realm halos that can only awaken at the Eighth Awakening.
Though they seem like a layer of halo enveloping a body, in fact, it connects with a particular Secret Realm, borrowing its power.
Unlike the Celestial Duty of the Celestial Destiny Star, the Secret Realm can genuinely supply Primordial Energy input and augnt the unique Primordial Energy attributes of Secret Spirits or Cultivators.
Simply put, the Secret Realm can give Cultivators a certain rate of Primordial Energy recovery and an additional attribute to their Primordial Energy.
Secret Spirits or Cultivators with a Secret Realm will have greatly increased combat endurance, especially favoring sustained abilities.
Abilities like Body Protection Divine Skill and Secret Law, which require continuous activation, will have significantly extended duration due to the Primordial Energy boosting provided by the Secret Realm.
The downside of the Secret Realm is that activating it consus a large amount of Primordial Energy.
If you don’t activate the Secret Realm at the start, and wait until your Primordial Energy has been depleted in battle, it might be too late to open the Secret Realm due to insufficient Primordial Energy.
Chen Guan himself doesn’t worry about this; no matter how much Primordial Energy his awakened Secret Realm consus, it cannot deplete him to the point of being unable to activate it.
The recovery capability of the Secret Realm is extrely useful to Chen Guan.
Though he himself has no need to recover Primordial Energy, for his Primordial Energy is inexhaustible.
Yet the Primordial Energy flowing from the Secret Realm can restore the Secret Collection’s Primordial Energy, which undoubtedly strengthens Chen Guan.
Of course, the inherent Primordial Energy attributes of the Secret Realm are also very important as an attachnt attribute.
What kind of Secret Realm one can awaken is as influenced by multiple factors as the Celestial Destiny Star, even harder to control than the awakening of the Secret Law.
Both Secret Spirits donning Secret Realm halos are at least Eighth Awakening Secret Spirits, possibly even Ninth Awakening.
Chen Guan certainly doesn’t want to provoke such creatures now; it is best to observe from afar.
The Sand Turtle, evidently the opponent of the giant lizard, inexplicably starts growing spikes, black and white in color, from inside its body.
The spikes, growing from within, pierce its body, and their numbers keep increasing.
No matter how much the Sand Turtle erupts, it cannot save its life, ultimately becoming a turtle, pierced by nurous spikes, held aloft in death.
The giant lizard opens its large mouth, directly bites the Sand Turtle’s corpse, and cracks the spikes. The hard turtle shell, under its teeth, is like sugarcane, crisp and crunching.
In just a mont, the massive Sand Turtle is consud by that black and white demon-spiked lizard.
Feeling satiated, the demon-spiked lizard turns and crawls toward another part of the desert, not noticing Chen Guan in the high air.
With a thought, Chen Guan follows the direction the demon-spiked lizard is leaving.
He didn’t understand what kind of power the demon-spiked lizard used just now to make spikes grow inside the Sand Turtle, causing it to kill itself.
The demon-spiked lizard crawls not too fast; after traveling a short distance, it reaches a giant sandpit and dives right in.
Soon, its enormous body disappears within the sandpit.
"Could that be a quicksand pit? Surely there’s a Grotto Heaven below," Chen Guan muses inwardly but dares not follow.
Such a powerful Secret Spirit can kill him in an instant if spotted; Chen Guan is not willing to take that risk.
Since there are no worthwhile resources here, Chen Guan simply finds a place far away to wait.
If he can figure out the abilities of this demon lizard, he might get a chance to kill it.
Who knows, Chen Guan waits for more than two days, suspecting maybe there’s another exit, and the lizard already left when he sees the giant quicksand pit stirring again.
Quicksand begins to rise, and the enormous demon lizard crawls out from it. After leaving the pit, it shakes off the sand from its body.
Chen Guan was thinking the demon lizard was going to leave its ho to hunt when it instead stops and turns to stare at the sandpit.
Soon, the sandpit stirs once more.
Very quickly, little demon lizards, adorned with black and white patterns, covered in spikes, as big as a grown elephant, crawl out one after another, lining up behind the big demon lizard.
"One...Two...Three...Six..." Chen Guan counts, totaling six little demon lizards.
"The big one is hard to kill; maybe the little ones are easy," Chen Guan rejoices inwardly, contemplating whether he could find a chance to deal with these little demons when the big one leaves to hunt.
He has only recently arrived at the Great Cave Heaven and is very short on resources, not willing to miss any opportunity.
The six little demon lizards follow behind the big one, crawling across the sand dunes, and the big demon lizard occasionally waits for them, figuring perhaps it’s leading its kids sowhere.
Chen Guan ascends to the sky, using his far-seeing technique to track them from afar.
He looks ahead in the direction the big demon lizard is moving and discovers, tens of kiloters away, a lake in the desert resembling a giant green jade embedded in the yellow sands.
"They must be going to drink water, right?" Chen Guan speculates internally.
Indeed, the big demon lizard eventually brings its kids to the lakeside, where they line up and bend down to drink water.
Watching its offspring drink at the lake’s edge, with tongues extended, the big demon lizard stands nearby, lifting its head now and then to examine the surroundings as if on guard.
Soon, the six little ones drink their fill, with two mischievous ones playing around instead of drinking, getting yelled at by the big demon lizard and hastily returning to drink.
Suddenly, the six little ones, having drunk their fill, begin rolling in agony on the sand, as if poisoned, frothing at the mouths.
"Whoa... I haven’t made a move... whose hands are so quick..." Chen Guan wonders aloud, suspecting so eerie creature in the lake using the water to attack these little lizards.
Soon, Chen Guan realizes sothing’s amiss. The big demon lizard rely worries over its young without anger or hostility, indicating it does not suspect any enemies, just concerns for them.
"Strange, it seems it knew this was going to happen, but why?" Just as he’s contemplating, he sees one of the rolling little lizards shedding spikes.
After all the spikes fall off, even the skin, tougher than turtle shells, starts to crack, and a new body struggles to erge from beneath the cracked skin.
