Chapter 213: Chapter 213: Sentry

The reserve team mbers who want to join the regular army must pass rigorous tests.

The testing differs slightly based on the career paths one applies for. You can only choose a profession, but not where you will be stationed. The allocation to a corps is a consideration made by higher authorities.

Ordinary reserve team mbers opt for professions like cavalry, archers, spearn, and sword and shield warriors, all starting from the lowest ranks.

There are also professions such as commanders, strategic analysts, and dics, who receive military ranks upon joining, albeit at the lowest officer level. Nonetheless, they are already considered part of the officer class, which is much better than starting as a soldier.

The gate team is applying for a commander position. With the support of the Xiu Family, their future developnt in the Celestial Court Army is assured to be quite promising.

An Zhiqi plans to apply for cavalry. Commanders need to take tests on battle array theory and practical exercises, and he can’t even morize the battle array theory, nor does he have any special skills, so he can only apply for ordinary professions.

"Captain, why don’t you apply for a commander position? Later, when you lead a team, you can transfer

over," An Zhiqi suggested.

"I can’t morize the battle array theory either," Chen Guan said with a smile.

It’s not that he couldn’t morize it; he simply never bothered to.

As a commander in the regular army, there would be a lot of duties. They often assign all sorts of dirty and tedious tasks to these rookie officers, leaving endless things to do, teams to lead, and public affairs to handle.

Chen Guan did not want these tasks to consu his ti, so he never planned to apply for a commander position.

"If not, why don’t you refrain from applying for the test for now and morize it thoroughly?" An Zhiqi hastily suggested.

"Forget it, I’ve already decided on what profession to apply for," Chen Guan replied.

"What profession?" An Zhiqi asked urgently.

"Sentinel," Chen Guan said.

"Sentinel?" An Zhiqi was suddenly at a loss: "Captain, are you planning to stand guard in an undeveloped region?"

"Yes," Chen Guan nodded.

Every Secret Realm has many undeveloped regions. At the edges of these developed areas, many outposts are set up, manned by sentinels to monitor the conditions of the undeveloped regions.

If there’s any anomaly within the undeveloped areas or if a Secret Spirit erges, the sentinel must promptly record and report it to ensure the safety of the developed region.

So undeveloped regions have seen large numbers of unknown Secret Spirits surging out, including High-Level Secret Spirits, making the sentinel profession quite dangerous.

Chen Guan chose this profession partly because he’s not afraid of danger and because there’s an opportunity to hunt high-quality Secret Spirits in those areas. Thirdly, standing guard also provides a chance to practice Secret Techniques.

With fewer people and fewer tasks, one can practice skills while on duty, and after hours, there’s an opportunity to hunt high-quality Secret Spirits. Other than being a bit dangerous, it’s all beneficial.

Chen Guan is indeed afraid of death, but within the Blessed Land, the highest level is just the Third Awakening Secret Spirit. If he levels up a few more tis, even if he can’t defeat a Third Awakening Secret Spirit, he can still escape using the Pure Yang Sword Immortal’s ability, which is extrely fast. The Third Awakening Secret Spirit would find it hard to catch him, considering its limited Primordial Energy.

The only question is whether the one from Peony Mountain will descend to deal with him personally, knowing he plans to flee using the Pure Yang Sword Immortal.

"Then I’ll apply for sentinel along with you," An Zhiqi said through gritted teeth.

"No, we might not end up at the sa outpost. You applying is pointless; apply for cavalry as planned, upgrade yourself properly, and when we et again, you must uphold our reputation," Chen Guan said sternly.

"Alright, I certainly won’t let you down," An Yiqi readily agreed.

The two of them submitted their application forms. An Yiqi’s test was scheduled two days later, but Chen Guan’s was quicker. He could start the test after a short wait.

Since the sentinel’s test items were fewer and less complex, the scheduling was quick and needed no special preparation. It wasn’t due to Chen Guan’s identity.

He passed the routine tests smoothly, showing good physical fitness, power, speed, and various body abilities, along with practical, riding, and vision tests.

Good vision is a strict requirent for sentinels, ideally with an Eye Secret Skill.

Luckily, Chen Guan was naturally endowed with better vision than most, and combined with the infusion of Primordial Energy, he easily passed the test.

It was hardly difficult, almost acing the test, and no one troubled Chen Guan.

Xiu Haofeng was unaware that Chen Guan was there for testing. Even if he knew, Chen Guan applying for a sentinel position wouldn’t make it any difficult for him. Was he supposed to deny Chen Guan’s application to be a sentinel and make him apply for a commander instead?

After completing the tests, it was just a matter of waiting for assignnt. Chen Guan didn’t mind a random assignnt to an outpost on the edge of Beimang Mountain.

So, he wasn’t at all concerned about that and instead went about spending his money.

Now, having over seventy million in funds, he could spend boldly and freely.

Chen Guan planned to invest most of his money in purchasing Elixirs or Heavenly and Earthly Treasures that replenish Primordial Energy, and then acquire a Secret Skill or pet that prevents being tracked or monitored, followed by a Lightweight Skill.

Currently, his Primordial Energy can’t sustain the prolonged use of the Pure Yang Sword Immortal skills. Thus, he needed a fast-running Lightweight Skill for ordinary use, preferably one faster than a Third Awakening Secret Spirit.

Items in the reserve team typically require points for exchange and offer limited options. Chen Guan didn’t plan to purchase there.

The reserve team is located in the suburbs of a city outside the Ancestral Court, and Chen Guan intended to purchase directly within the city.

The goods in the cities outside the Ancestral Court are certainly pricier, but offers better items compared to other cities.

With money in hand, Chen Guan desired to purchase the finest items, price being a secondary concern.

The outer cities of the Ancestral Court are divided into east, west, south, and north, each with its independent City Lord, appointed and managed directly by the Chief Judge.

Chen Guan went to the most developed and prosperous East City, and then to the most upscale Chang’an Pedestrian Street in the East District.

After browsing several stores, he found many good items, but none really suitable for himself yet.

As Chen Guan was exiting a store, he suddenly saw two familiar figures coming out from the shop next door.

"Why are Bu Changning and that woman here?" Chen Guan quickly shrank back, hiding behind a signboard.

"Brother Changning, you spent all your money to buy

such an expensive pet. What about yourself?" The woman said gently.

"Qing Ya, don’t worry about these things. I’ve already beco an officer in the Celestial Court Army, with excellent benefits and salary, so I don’t need to spend money. Besides, with my abilities, I’ll earn a lot in the future. This ti, I only got you a unique pet; next ti, I’ll get you an Unparalleled Pet. In the future, all your pets, Secret Treasures, Secret Techniques, and Secret Skills will be of Unparalleled quality," Bu Changning said with pride.

"Brother Changning... you’re so outstanding... I must also strive to beco exceptional to be worthy of you..." Qing Ya said, leaning into Bu Changning’s embrace with a blissful expression.

"Silly, you’ve always been the best in my heart since childhood. You’re worthy of anyone," Bu Changning said, looking deeply into Qing Ya’s eyes.
