Chapter 405: Chapter 399: The Broken Bridge
A large hole suddenly appeared on the street, seemingly connected to the sewer, and in Su Changxing’s perception, the Screar was right below.
"It’s not moving, seems to be resting, probably more than one."
Su Changxing said softly, thinking about how to deal with these Screars.
Monk showed a cautious expression; dealing with just one Screar was daunting enough for him, as he couldn’t quite match these monsters purely in terms of physical strength.
As they approached, there was movent underground. A purple figure suddenly jumped out and lunged at them.
Su Changxing seized the mont, deftly sidestepped to evade, and swung his scythe, slicing through the air with a ghostly green arc.
The tip of the scythe hit the Screar’s scale armor, emitting a sound like shattering glass, easily piercing through to strike the heart’s center.
"Ah!!"
With a scream of agony, the Screar fell to the ground twitching, life force rapidly fading.
"Strong physique but still sowhat clumsy."
Su Changxing pulled out the scythe, bringing forth a gush of purple fluid.
The scythe was far sharper than the steel saber he previously used, and could easily break through the Screar’s bodily defense, allowing him to deal with it without using the revolver, saving bullets.
Soon followed more rustling sounds, suggesting a considerable number.
Su Changxing quickly retreated, drew his revolver, not intending to engage in lee against these beasts with robust flesh.
Moreover, now with a severed hand, his combat power decreased by at least thirty percent.
At the mont the second Screar ca up, Su Changxing fired a precise shot to blast its head, and promptly fired a second shot at the third Screar’s abdon, creating a large hole.
Monk rushed from the side, knocking away a Screar lunging at Su Changxing.
The number of Screars was beyond imagination, at least around ten, but the size of the entrance prevented them from all erging at once.
"Retreat."
Su Changxing killed the Screar knocked away by Monk with a shot, retreating, skillfully reloading each bullet with nimble fingers.
The revolver’s power was more than enough, easily killing a Screar, not needing "Concentration," but could only load four bullets, needing to reserve reload ti.
The remaining Screars seed to recognize Su Changxing, as they surged towards him with a do-or-die attitude, seemingly considering confronting him as their greatest triumph.
Before these Screars arrived, he completed reloading, fired four successive shots, and four Screars fell.
The last two lunged fiercely at Su Changxing from the front, with a nacing deanor.
Su Changxing swung his single hand, seven or eight Evil Spirits appeared in front, retreated three steps, and the scythe erged in his hand, slashing forward.
Every step had been pre-considered, as the most stable way, not leaving any opportunity for the Screars.
He always believed risk ant death, so the best way was to avoid death to the greatest extent, even if it required more effort.
The final Screar was also horizontally sliced open by Su Changxing, revealing the heart’s Crystal Core.
"What’s the use of this thing?"
Monk asked from the side.
Su Changxing’s knife swiftly cut open the corpse, revealing the heart’s Crystal Core, saying, "Through certain ans, it can enhance the Extraordinary’s power."
After collecting all the Crystal Cores, Su Changxing and Monk returned to their previous place.
It was very quiet.
Everyone sat on the ground, silently eating the steaming food in their bowls.
A part of them whispered softly.
"Boss Wu, I can no longer reach Qiu Jing."
Qu Zhaoyu said somberly.
Actually, the contact had been lost since the afternoon, but it hadn’t shown as deceased then.
Wu Qingsheng nodded and said, "Hmm, get so rest; we should proceed later, all the way to the edge of the No-Man’s Land."
This was also their plan, first rush to the edge of the No-Man’s Land; if worse cos to worst, they could enter the No-Man’s Land as well.
Not everyone was exhausted; those with "spots" were rather relaxed, their stamina comparable to the Extraordinary, seemingly not needing rest.
"Brother Su, where did you go just now?"
Wu Qingsheng asked as he saw Su Changxing return.
Su Changxing glanced at everyone around, saying:
"Just went to kill those Screars from yesterday, to avoid trouble; get ready, later we’ll continue, while it’s not completely dark."
About an hour later.
They resud their journey, walking along the riverside avenue from the city, preparing to cross the bridge.
"Seems like there’s sothing in the water."
Monk said as he walked, staring at the water’s surface.
Su Changxing confird, "Indeed, there is."
A Long laughed, "It’s not so water monster, is it?"
Wu Qingsheng replied calmly, "Entirely possible, even things like Screars exist, and it could be unusually massive, let’s be cautious."
The river water was pitch black, showing no movent below, but giant ripples occasionally appeared, as if sothing enormous was churning beneath.
This made everyone apprehensive in silence.
They instinctively moved away from the riverbank.
Gradually, nightfall descended, enveloping them in darkness, with a deep blue sky shimring brightly and exquisitely.
"Kill him!"
With a shout, Wu Qingsheng slashed at the back of soone nearby, showing no rcy.
The man fell to the ground struggling, uttering unclear cries, like crying, or perhaps a grim laughter.
Another slash ca down.
The man beca motionless, but his eyes remained crimson, emitting a red glow.
"Is this a corpse mutation?"
Wu Qingsheng asked uncertainly.
Huang Longhu looked thoughtfully at the corpse, "Seems stronger than ordinary Zombies, withstanding Boss’s slash and still able to stand."
This person mutated as a corpse while traveling, but was promptly dealt with, yet it deepened the group’s gloom.
Death unknowingly beca so cheap, numbing everyone.
Huang Keying whispered to soone beside her:
"I saw many deaths today, leaving only over a billion surviving, don’t know what’s happening."
Qu Zhaoyu smiled weakly, saying:
"Don’t overthink, as long as we survive... maybe not even over a billion, soone on the forum proved the count is delayed, and so deaths aren’t recorded."
Soone else stated pessimistically, "Humanity could entirely perish here, including all of civilization... we’re only making aningless struggles."
Suddenly, Su Changxing took the lead and stopped, looking ahead, seeing the bridge completely broken as if sothing from below forcefully smashed it open.
