After a hearty dinner, his mom and dad went to the kitchen to wash the dishes, leaving the living room for the grandfather and grandson to talk. Both Zhang Zengyuan and Hu Miaozhen knew very well that if it weren’t for their precious grandson, Zhang Shumo would never have made a special trip back.
Powerful Divine Beings were swamped with countless tasks and normally too busy to rest. Zhang Zengyuan had once served in the military and held a position, so he knew better than anyone how many things there were to handle each day.
Once his parents were both in the kitchen, only Zhang Yi and his grandfather, Zhang Shumo, remained in the living room. Zhang Yi looked at his grandfather, having so much he wanted to say. But in that mont, a rush of emotions left him at a loss for where to begin. In the end, it was Zhang Shumo who noticed Zhang Yi’s inner conflict and started the conversation.
"Your father tells you’ve been doing very well at school recently. You even took first place on the final exam and earned a spot at the University Alliance Training Camp?"
"Yes, Grandpa!"
Hearing this, Zhang Yi’s eyes instantly lit up. He then naturally followed his grandfather’s lead, continuing the topic.
When he was a child, Zhang Shumo’s favorite thing to do with his grandson was to create a huge three-dinsional model to simulate a battlefield. Then, he would teach Zhang Yi, bit by bit, how to arrange troops and how to anticipate the enemy’s move. Hearing his grandson speak now, it was as if he had returned to those tis. Zhang Shumo was montarily lost in mory.
However, with the Spiritual Power of a Powerful Divine Being, juggling ten things at once was nothing remarkable. So, while lost in his recollections, he was also listening to the decisions his grandson had made. Zhang Shumo would still nod from ti to ti, offering a few comnts on the events in the Small Magic Plane.
Zhang Yi analyzed everything step by step, telling his grandfather all the thoughts behind the decisions he had made. When he got to his confrontation with the Moon God, Zhang Shumo shook his head.
"You’re quite thorough in your considerations, but in this case, you forgot the most important factor—external factors!
"Those High Transformationed Demigods aren’t fools. With so many of you candidates suddenly appearing on that small Magic Continent, how could they possibly not have noticed?
"In fact, by my guess, if you hadn’t pushed all the way to the Moon Elves’ Main City and were about to act against the remaining ones, that Moon God probably wouldn’t have even shown up! If you had only killed all the Elves except for the Moon Elves, he would have stayed hidden.
"Even if you thought that your group of over a thousand people was small and that you wouldn’t be noticed because you were scattered across the entire Small Magic Plane, the truth is, you still underestimated these native Demigods!"
Zhang Shumo shook his head as he spoke. "When you moved against the Moon God, I’m certain that both the God of the Sea and the Beast God were observing your battle through so ans!
"During your fight with the Moon God, there was such a huge commotion, yet neither the Beast God nor the God of the Sea made any unusual moves. Thinking back on it now, don’t you find that strange?"
His grandfather’s words were like a light cutting through fog, instantly clearing up everything Zhang Yi hadn’t understood before. He had been wondering why both the Beast God and the God of the Sea had remained indifferent while he fought the Moon God. Now, following his grandfather’s line of reasoning, he felt like he had the final answer.
"When you were fighting, there were definitely teachers’ gazes fixed directly on you," Zhang Shumo continued.
"If it were just one or two teachers, it would have been fine. But when the gazes of dozens of teachers are focused on you, it’s impossible for that much attention to go unnoticed by other Divine Beings.
"It’s precisely because of this that the Beast God and the God of the Sea never appeared.
"Even the Moon God’s death was their way of probing you!
"Without probing, how would they know what kind of abilities and what trump cards a group of people who suddenly appeared on the Small Magic Plane possessed!
"And your performance during the exam absolutely terrified the God of the Sea and the Beast God!
"Later, when so many students were stirring up trouble in their territory and the Divine Beings never appeared, you were a huge part of the reason why!"
As the fog in his mind was dispelled by his grandfather’s words, Zhang Yi ca to a sudden realization.
Indeed, experience always wins out.
The look of sudden understanding in Zhang Yi’s eyes, followed by a worshipful gaze, filled Zhang Shumo with a gratification he hadn’t felt in a long, long ti.
He was in high spirits. "Alright, if there’s anything else you want to tell , hurry up and say it! It’s painful for just watching you hold it all in."
Zhang Yi was full of admiration for his grandfather’s ability to read people. He promptly told him about his idea of cultivating a Subordinate God, recounting in full detail the entire situation of Lin Aoxue approaching him.
For powerful Divine Beings like them with long lifespans, a Subordinate God might accompany them for thousands, tens of thousands, or even millions of years. Sotis, a Subordinate God sworn to die for them could be closer than family. Zhang Yi, who had been taught all sorts of cautionary tales by his parents and grandfather since he was young, would certainly not be muddle-headed at a mont like this.
It didn’t matter that Lin Aoxue was beautiful...
