Chapter 84: Chapter 84 Logging_1

The Chen Dalong who was the subject of everyone’s discussion was currently blazing a trail, not taphorically, but in the literal sense.

Chen Dalong was leading at the front, and each swing of his large knife severed a great swath of weeds or brambles.

It was not just him doing this; the people following behind were doing the sa.

The others were responsible for cutting down the weeds that hadn’t been thoroughly cleared, thereby widening the path further.

In the process, they inevitably faced attacks from mutated insects, but this path had already been taken once, leaving at most only a fifth of the insects they encountered before.

This was definitely easier for the whole team, but for Chen Dalong taking the lead, the mutated insects attacking him were anything but scarce.

For he was stirring up the hornet’s nest—as the undergrowth was cleared, the otherwise possibly hidden insects that wouldn’t attack now unsurprisingly launched their assaults.

Yet, facing the attacks of these mutated insects, Chen Dalong either chopped, slapped or stomped, effortlessly killing them.

This scene had beco commonplace for the mbers of the Mad Dragon Security Company.

But for Qin Yaowen and the people from the Heiyao Security Company following behind, it was nothing short of mind-blowing.

“Gulp!”

Qin Yaowen couldn’t help but swallow his saliva, and it was at this mont he finally realized why the Mad Dragon Security Company could always bring back so many mutated beings.

Having understood this, however, he was left with an even greater puzzle—just how did Chen Dalong achieve this?

“We’re here,” Chen Dalong suddenly spoke up, snapping everyone out of their advancent.

“We’ve arrived so soon?” Qin Yaowen glanced at his watch, unable to help but remark.

They had just walked approximately 400 ters, a distance that obviously wouldn’t count for much in a city.

However, there were no roads in the Donglin Mountain Range, and with the constant threat of mutated being attacks, 400 ters was a considerable distance.

Yet, they had arrived in 5 minutes, and only one mber had suffered a minor injury during the entire journey.

If the Heiyao Security Company had made this trip alone, it would have taken at least 15 minutes, not to ntion the number of mbers with minor injuries would probably not be less than five or six.

Of course, such musings were fleeting, and Qin Yaowen imdiately directed his company’s mbers to help out.

Felling a hundred-ter-tall giant tree was not difficult, but the real challenge lay in how to transport the lumber out.

Thankfully, Chen Dalong had co well-prepared, bringing along tools to make flatbed carts.

This was also the reason why each mber had carried at least one wheel over, while other materials could be sourced locally.

As the chainsaws roared into action, trees fell one after another, then were cut into planks and sticks, and so on.

So were in charge of cutting, others assembling, and with the help of over two hundred people, the assembly work sped along rapidly.

It’s worth ntioning that even in such a situation, Chen Dalong still displayed strength that left others in the dust.

Assembling a simple flatbed cart mostly required planks, and even with chainsaws, it took everyone else twenty or thirty seconds to cut a single plank.

But for Chen Dalong, it was a matter of one slice.

Watching Chen Dalong cut planks was like watching soone else chop firewood; a lift of his hand and a swing of his blade, and a plank appeared.

Additionally, his precision and steady hand ensured that the planks were nearly identical in size, which left Qin Yaowen beside him utterly astounded.

By this ti, even if he was slow on the uptake, he could tell sothing was off.

This had already gone beyond what normal humans could do.

And the non-humans of the current era all shared the sa term: superhumans.

After considering this possibility, Qin Yaowen secretly swallowed his saliva, then excitent ensued.

If the pie in the sky that Chen Dalong had painted for him before seed to hold at most a twenty to thirty percent chance of success, now that probability had shot up to seventy to eighty percent.

With the concerted efforts of over two hundred people, it took just half an hour to assemble fifty flatbed carts.

Although these flatbed carts were sowhat ugly, and not necessarily even level—and their quality was an unknown factor—

none of that mattered. As long as they could make it through today, or even just get these two giant trees onto the highway, that would suffice.

Next ca the felling. Over a dozen chainsaws got to work simultaneously, and soon the giant trees were toppled. Then began the job of dividing and transporting them.

The trunks were relatively easy to deal with; they just needed to be cut into sections. But the branches and leaves required a bit more ti; they had to be chopped off, then bundled together like firewood.

After another tumultuous ten minutes, they had managed to load all fifty flatbed carts, but this was rely one third of the entire poplar tree.

“Brother Qin, the rest is up to you. There shouldn’t be any problems, right?” Chen Dalong inquired.

“No problem at all. The mutated insects in the area have been thoroughly cleared. If we can’t handle things under these circumstances, then we really have no excuses,” Qin Yaowen assured him, patting his chest.

“Alright, let’s head back then!” Chen Dalong nodded.

Soon, the sizable convoy began to make their way back. Since the road had already been cleared once, pushing the flatbed carts was not too arduous.

Most importantly, the distance was not far, just over four hundred ters.

Even so, two of the flatbed carts encountered problems.

Fortunately, there was no great skill involved in making these flatbed carts. As long as the wheels were not damaged, any other parts could be easily patched up.

Wherever a problem arose, a few extra nails were hamred in for reinforcent.

Before long, the group had arrived back at Yunyang Highway.

At that mont, Chen Dalong felt a touch disoriented. Previously, he had risked his life twice for a few hundred pounds of mutated plants and had failed to secure them.

But now, he was able to obtain several tons of wood with ease. The contrast between then and now was stark.

He quickly adjusted his mood and then called for ten trucks to load up the timber.

The capacity of these trucks was far beyond that of the flatbed carts; the wood hauled by fifty flatbed carts filled only five trucks.

Therefore, Qin Yaowen and his team needed to make another trip.

As for Chen Dalong, he led the remaining mbers of the Mad Dragon Security Company, along with the five trucks full of timber, back to the temporary camp.

This ti, they once again caused a sensation.

In fact, the repeated success of the Mad Dragon Security Company in bringing back a massive haul of mutated beings had already raised everyone’s expectations considerably.

Furthermore, given the secretive nature of the company’s departure, even if the number of mutated beings they brought back doubled, people wouldn’t have been overly surprised.

However, when they saw the five trucks loaded with timber arriving, everyone began to wonder if they were experiencing an hallucination.

The area around Yang City was rich with forests, a city blessed with abundant natural resources. Timber was certainly not scarce, and its price was quite low.

Under such circumstances, who would bother to travel all the way to the Donglin Mountain Range to cut down trees?

This was simply absurd, especially at such a critical mont.

“Comrade Chen Dalong, if you needed timber, you only had to say so. I could have directly arranged for the military logistics departnt to allocate a batch to you. Right now, our main focus should be on eradicating the mutated beings,” Zhang Ji said gravely as he promptly arrived on the scene.

If Chen Dalong decided to shirk his duties, today’s goal of clearing out the mutated beings would definitely not be fulfilled.
