In the heavy atmosphere, Zara was montarily at a loss for words.
Although she was the Serpent Queen's guard, she still lacked the courage to argue with the Serpent People's high priests in front of everyone. After all, these high priests were deeply respected by all mbers of the Serpent People.
Charles could see Zara's hesitation and decided to step in.
In the tense silence, Charles suddenly let out an untily laugh.
Everyone instantly turned their gaze toward Charles.
Among those gazes were curiosity and confusion, as well as coldness and hostility.
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Charles spoke up.
"No wonder the Serpent People's situation hasn't improved. With high priests like you holding them back, it's a miracle that the Serpent People haven't been completely destroyed!"
Charles's words imdiately enraged the two high priests.
"Bold words! You are just a human! You have no right to pass judgnt on any Serpent!"
The high priest at the front roared angrily.
"Take him down imdiately! This human is of no use in saving the queen! He must be a spy from the Stellar Empire!"
At the high priest's command, the Serpent soldiers quickly surrounded Charles.
Charles coldly stared at the high priest, ready to act at any mont.
In this tense mont, Zara hurriedly stepped forward.
"Charles is definitely not our enemy! High priests, your judgnt is hasty! Do you not care about Her Majesty the Queen's wellbeing? I have brought back the item that can lift the curse on the queen!"
As she spoke, she pulled out the Tears of an Angel.
The light from the Tears of an Angel instantly illuminated the surroundings.
The Serpent high priests and soldiers were stunned.
"Now you must believe what I said earlier, right?" Zara asked again.
The expressions of the two high priests shifted.
The one who had previously remained silent was clearly moved by Zara's words.
anwhile, the high priest who had been making things difficult for Charles remained disdainful.
"This doesn't prove anything! How do I know this glowing gem is really the Tears of an Angel? Zara, perhaps you've been deceived by this human spy!"
Once those words were spoken, Charles was certain that the high priest was deliberately delaying things. He didn't want Aria to be treated at all.
In this situation, Charles knew he would not waste any more ti with him.
Charles turned to Zara. "Do you know where the Serpent Queen is right now?"
Zara, confused, nodded.
She didn't know why Charles asked that question, but she trusted him, so she didn't hesitate to give him an answer.
"Good! Help find the way!"
Suddenly, Charles drew out the black gold long knife, and a gust of wind swept through.
He quickly pulled Zara along and charged into the pyramid!
Charles's actions caught all the Serpent People off guard.
It wasn't until they had run a good distance that the two Serpent high priests finally reacted.
"Quickly, stop that human!"
The high priest who had been opposing Charles roared in anger. His face twisted into an expression of pure rage.
"Protect the queen!"
The other high priest's command was slightly different.
The Serpent soldiers moved quickly.
They were more familiar with the interior of the pyramid, so they believed they could reach the queen before Charles did.
The interior of the pyramid was extrely complex.
Although Zara quickly reacted and provided detailed directions, their speed was not fast enough.
"Charles, we're not fast enough! Those soldiers know the pyramid's interior very well. They even know so secret passages that no one else knows about!" Zara hurriedly warned Charles.
"I know!" Charles replied seriously. "Mousie! Go! Distract those pursuers!"
Mousie was swiftly pulled from the shadows by Charles.
It looked unwilling, but it quickly sprang into action.
Mousie transford into a shadow, linking rapidly with various areas of the pyramid.
A wave of shadows spread quickly throughout the pyramid.
Where the waves reached, phantom images of Charles began to appear.
The pursuing Serpent soldiers were distracted by these shadows, and their pace slowed significantly.
Finally, Charles no longer had to worry about being caught by the Serpent People soldiers.
While the chase continued inside the pyramid, outside, the two high priests were discussing the situation.
"What just happened is unprecedented! We need to recall General Sost imdiately! He's the only one capable of dealing with this ergency," said the high priest who had been at odds with Charles, his tone grave.
He seed to want to emphasize that he was only considering calling General Sost back out of complete necessity.
The other high priest did not respond imdiately.
His gaze remained fixed on the pyramid.
"Let's wait a bit. Perhaps our soldiers will be able to catch Zara and that human."
"We can't wait any longer! Didn't you just say we must protect the queen? Calling General Sost back is the only way to ensure the queen's safety!"
"General Sost needs to stay on the front lines, constantly fighting against the Stellar Empire's attacks. If we recall him now, the Stellar Empire will directly breach our current defenses. The situation we face will be even worse then."
The two high priests exchanged sharp words, neither willing to back down.
Inside the pyramid, Charles and Zara finally passed through the last great door.
"Up ahead is the queen's chamber! After the curse on Her Majesty worsened, she has stayed inside her chamber," Zara quickly said.
Charles nodded.
He increased his pace once again.
After passing through a massive door, he and Zara charged directly into the Serpent Queen's chamber.
The maidservants inside the chamber were so frightened that they scattered in all directions.
So maidservants instinctively tried to protect the queen, while others were simply looking for places to hide.
Charles looked toward the Serpent Queen, Aria.
At that mont, Aria was enveloped in a black mist. Though her eyes were open, it seed as though she couldn't see anything around her.
The frantic retreat of the maidservants alerted Aria to a major disturbance.
With a weak voice, she asked, "Did you betray ? Aldany!"
"It's , Your Majesty! I've returned with Charles. We've brought the item that can cure your curse!" Zara quickly said, excited as she approached Aria.
Aria's lifeless eyes suddenly flickered.
Clearly, she was filled with emotion at that mont.
"You really succeeded! Where is Charles?"
Charles took a few steps forward, moving closer to Aria.
At this mont, Aria was finally able to sowhat make out Charles's appearance.
"I knew you would co to save ."
"Of course, Your Majesty. You've helped greatly before, and naturally, I must repay you," Charles said, then turned to Zara.
"Don't waste any more ti! Quickly use the Tears of an Angel to start lifting Her Majesty's curse. The longer we delay, the worse Her Majesty's condition will beco."
At Charles's urging, Zara took out the Tears of an Angel.
A gentle light enveloped Aria.
The black mist slowly began to dissipate.
Aria finally regained so vitality.
Her condition was significantly better than before.
"While the Tears of an Angel can remove the curse, it will take so ti. To completely eradicate the curse, we will need at least seven more days," Charles said with a smile, addressing both Aria and Zara.
He had already seen hidden hints on the Tears of an Angel before.
That's why he was able to accurately predict the ti needed to lift the curse.
Both Aria and Zara were extrely excited.
They didn't mind waiting for seven days to completely lift the curse. For the two of them, the fact that the curse could be removed at all was already great news.
As the three of them celebrated in joy, Serpent People soldiers suddenly burst into the chamber.
Mousie also returned to Charles's side at the sa ti.
The Serpent People soldiers glared angrily at Charles.
So of them were even preparing to attack him.
At that mont, Aria suddenly shouted in anger, "What do you think you're doing? This man is a guest of our Serpent Empire. He successfully lifted the curse from my body."
Aria's words shocked the Serpent People soldiers.
They hadn't expected Her Majesty's condition to improve so much, and what shocked them even more was that it was a human who had removed the curse from their queen.
After the initial shock, the Serpent People soldiers quickly reacted.
They kneeled on the ground, begging for Her Majesty's forgiveness.
"Enough, enough! Don't kneel here! Get out of here imdiately! Also, gather all the high priests right away. I want them to know that my condition is nearly restored," Aria quickly commanded.
As the queen of the Serpent Empire, she knew that once her condition had improved, she needed to quickly regain control over the empire.
For so ti, the power of the Serpent Empire had been in the hands of the high priests.
She didn't believe that all the high priests were entirely loyal to her.
So it was essential that she reclaid her power from the high priests as soon as possible.
Charles stayed in the queen's chamber, observing everything. He intended to et with all the high priests of the Serpent Empire.
One of the two high priests he had encountered earlier had been openly hostile toward him.
He needed to find out how many of the high priests harbored hostility toward him.
Only then could he make a more precise plan for his next actions.
