Alex was montarily stunned.

Darn it! He forgot that Emma had told him she loved strawberry cake the most.

He awkwardly pouted. "I’m already full today, Mommy. Let’s just go ho, I feel sleepy already."

He opened his mouth wide, pretending to yawn.

Cecilia chuckled. "Alright, let’s go ho and sleep."

The next morning, she went to the hospital because Rick was having his surgery today.

Evan had done the tense preparations before surgery early. After a morning-long surgery, Rick was finally moved out of the ergency room.

Cecilia walked over first, looking at Evan with concern. Although the latter was a globally renowned dical genius, she couldn’t help but feel nervous.

Evan took off his mask and gave her a big thumbs-up.

"The surgery was a success, Riane. You owe big this ti, so don’t forget your promise."

Cecilia finally relaxed.

"Don’t worry."

In the ward, she was peeling fruit while waiting for Rick to wake up. Evan had told her that the surgery was risky, and Rick would take at least four hours before fully waking up.

Suddenly, there was a loud commotion. Without even glancing over, Cecilia knew it was the Morrisons.

As expected, Sophie, Frank, and Mariah stord into the ward one after another.

Frank complained as soon as he entered, "He’s almost dead, so why bother with a luxury room? We struggled to find him."

Cecilia frowned, her gaze cold as ice.

"Uncle just had surgery; don’t disturb his rest."

Frank scoffed and was about to reply when Mariah interrupted him.

"Alright, stop arguing and listen to Cecilia. After all, she paid the money and found the doctor."

Mariah was indeed skilled at causing trouble. There wouldn’t have been an issue before, but once she ntioned the money, the other two wouldn’t stand down about it.

Sure enough, Frank got angrier.

"I’m your father, so I’ll say what I want. That money was originally mine; you’re the one who should shut up!"

In his agitation, he slamd his hand on the bedside table, making the bed shake.

"I won’t waste words with you. The surgery’s over, so return the remaining funds to !"

Cecilia clenched her fist and slowly stood up. Frank was intimidated by her, his tone weakening considerably.

She gritted her teeth and said, "There’s no money here for you. If you don’t leave right now, you’ll find yourselves in a hospital bed, too."

Mariah suddenly began to cry, wiping her tears as she sobbed.

"Cecilia, you can’t just kick us out because you now have the inheritance money. After all, Rick is still your dad’s younger brother, your uncle."

Cecilia found this ridiculous.

His younger brother? If Frank really cared about Rick, he neither would’ve used him to threaten her or sent him ho to die.

‘Trying to guilt trip now? In your dreams!’

Cecilia insisted, "Get out."

At this mont, Sophie, who had been silent for a while, suddenly scread.

"Ahh!"

Mariah quickly asked, "What’s the matter?"

Sophie raised her phone, pointing at Rick with one hand.

"I just sent pictures of uncle to a few reputable doctors I know. They all said it looks like the surgery failed, and he’s about to die."

Mariah was startled and hesitantly said, "Cecilia is still here; don’t curse your uncle with nonsense."

Sophie exclaid, "Why would I do that? I’m telling the truth. These doctors have good skills in Star City. They said uncle’s face is purple with pale lips—typical signs of a failed surgery."

Cecilia recalled Evan telling her that this was a normal thing after surgery. Many hospitals in the country hadn’t succeeded in similar surgeries, so their judgnts were inaccurate.

She laughed coldly. "You’re really stupid. Even if you die, Uncle will be fine."

Sophie was infuriated by these words.

"Cecilia, stop being stubborn. You probably got that doctor from so shady clinic; now that you’ve caused a person’s death, you should prepare for jail!"

Then, she arrogantly placed her hands on her hips and exclaid, "Hand over the funds now, and we might consider bailing you out. Otherwise, I’ll definitely put you and that quack doctor in jail. In the end, that money is still ours!"

Cecilia was incensed. "You!"

Suddenly, soone’s commanding voice echoed out.

"Who’s going to jail?"
