“I must be dreaming or stuck in VR,” Bonga thought to himself as he continued running away, failing to do so effectively as he kept falling and crashing into things in his attempt to get as far away from the monster as possible.

Although he knew everything was a reality, what his eyes were seeing was causing his brain to consider hallucination as an option. The corridor he was trying to escape from was currently under fire from an Ultramarine, sothing he knew was just a character in one of the empire’s nearly limitless entertainnt avenues. This specific type of entertainnt was sothing that he too had enjoyed and had even spent his own END to experience.

And just like everyone else, he believed it to be nothing other than a form of entertainnt, because that was what even the humans who were into it said. But it seed like the entire empire was in on the joke, or even they were tricked by the empire, which was most likely using these stories to hide the existence of these types of weapons under their control in the best place possible: right in front of everyone.

However, with that realization ca the full dread that if this idea was actually true, no matter how improbable, it ant the empire was the scariest entity the Conclave had ever dared to face off against and attack first.

Reaching the end of the corridor while hearing the constant firing of the Ultramarine’s gun, the door didn’t open. The power that an EMP had taken out was yet to return or be rerouted through a route that had a connection to this door, so it remained closed. In a few seconds, several more individuals who were running reached him and started pushing, trying to force the blast-resistant door open, but spectacularly failing.

“I surrender,” Bonga shouted, getting on his knees with his hands in the air like he had seen in the content he consud. He knew their chances of survival were small since they had already denied the first surrender demand that was given to them, but he had no other option.

BAM!! BAM!! BAM!! BAM!! BAM!! BAM!! BAM!! BAM!! Heavy steps of tal soles hitting the tal ground kept getting closer and closer until the steps stopped, and silence reigned for ten seconds.

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR A rain of bullets hit Bonga and all those who were surrendering, but as Bonga was falling, thinking that he had died, he felt no pain at all, as if he was hit with paintball rubber bullets, making him wonder if this is how dying felt.

“This is so fun, man,” the Ultramarine said as he looked at the now-unconscious soldiers whom he had just shot with nanomachine bullets that seeped into their bodies, tracking them in a VR as their brain data was scanned and collected.

BAM! BAM! BAM! He didn’t stand there for too long, just enough to see that the nanomachines were now in their systems. He walked to the thick, closed door, BOOOM, and punched it, his hand going cleanly through it before retracting his hand and using both of them to tear the door in two by widening the hole, quite an overkill when he could have forcefully opened it by digging his fingers in and sliding it, but where was the fun in that?

With the hole open, he continued his walk as he looked at the 3D map highlighting the sector he was assigned. Due to the ship’s size, a single individual couldn’t take control of it fast enough, but the empire solved that by sending more than a hundred avatars into a ship, more or less, depending on its size, and assigning each one of them a sector that they had the responsibility to take over.

......................

“Will you surrender?” A man wearing a yellow spandex suit, a black belt, red gloves, and a white cape asked. The only visible skin was his face and his bald head, which was shiny enough to reflect the minute amounts of light in the vicinity.

“Did you really co without weapons?” the Conclave soldier asked the man, who had a bored expression despite being the one who boarded the ship.

“Do I need to bring one?” he asked cluelessly.

“Then you are foolish to think I will fight you without weapons just because you didn’t bring yours. I’m not a Valthorin, so die, you fool!” the Conclave soldier shouted as he fired his gun endlessly at the man, who seed to have been too slow to even react, causing the soldier to laugh maniacally as he continued raining fire.

But amidst his maniacal laughter, he heard sothing, causing him to halt his firing to try and hear what it was. As the rain of bullets stopped and the area was now covered by dust, he finally heard it: “Futsū no Panchi (Normal Punch).” Before he could even register what it ant, a massive punch the size of his body ca at such a speed that instead of his body being sent flying, it was liquefied monts before the fist-shaped shield, looking like Saitama’s punch as drawn in the manga, dissipated as if it didn’t exist in the first place.

“Now that everything is clear, where is that fucking mosquito?” the man said as he continued walking as if he hadn’t just liquefied a human.

.........................

Brain data upon brain data from the Conclave soldiers captured alive kept being sent as Mnemosyne gathered it, went through it, and categorized all of the collected information based on its importance, using it to create an image of the Conclave’s plans. This allowed the empire to finally clear a portion of the fog they were in regarding the Conclave’s plans and actions before the war.

The sa was being done to the ships’ data, but due to the EMP and AMP attacks, the amount of collected data was very limited. Once those inside the ships realized what was happening, they also destroyed the data or encrypted it using a system that made it impossible for anyone to decrypt, even those who encrypted it. This limited the amount of usable data that they collected, but even the collected information was good, as it highlighted so important targets, like which communication nodes they were using to facilitate fleet-wide communications, which channels the fleet was using to conduct information, and much more. This gave the AIs enough workload for them to spend quantum clusters’ worth of computing power to just sift and filter the garbage from the gold data in the information that was being constantly sent.
