“How was your evaluation?” Ramsey asked as he dropped into a seat beside Amir in the massive, theater-like hall. The room was slowly filling up, with more individuals materializing every few monts, greeting friends nearby before settling into their designated seats. A low hum of conversation spread through the space, resembling the anticipation before a movie screening.
“Mine was fixated on an asteroid I was exploring,” Ramsey continued, shaking his head. “They kept pressing for details and I had to talk about it for over half an hour.”
Amir glanced around, scanning the crowd for familiar faces. “Mine focused on Adam and the material. That’s what I spent most of my ti discussing.”
Ramsey frowned. “What do you think they were really evaluating us on? If they kept steering the conversation toward specific topics, it feels like they were looking for sothing beyond just our ntal state.”
Before Amir could respond, a figure materialized nearby. Recognizing her instantly, Ramsey reached out to dap their friend, Kate, as she slid into the seat between them.
“Do you think the evaluator was human or AI?” Amir asked instead of addressing Ramsey’s question directly.
“Most likely AI,” Kate replied without hesitation. “There’s no way they could’ve lined up a million human evaluators on such short notice. Even if they knew exactly when we’d arrive, coordinating that many people and maintaining a consistent standard would be nearly impossible.”
Amir leaned back, arms crossed. “Maybe… but mine felt too human. Every reaction, every movent, it was natural. I didn’t notice a single thing that gave away artificial behavior.”
Kate smirked. “And that’s what makes it interesting, isn’t it? If they were AI and you couldn’t tell… what does that say about how advanced they’ve beco?”
“All we have to do is wait and we’ll get our answers soon enough,” Ramsey said, gesturing toward the massive screen at the front of the room. “We’re about to receive a summary of everything that changed while we were away. If the technological advancents we see here are several generations ahead of what we left behind, we might have our answer about whether the evaluators were AI or not.”
Just as she finished speaking, the lights dimd, and the massive screen flickered to life. The low hum of conversation that had filled the room instantly faded into silence as every eye turned forward, anticipation thick in the air.
Before the summary could begin, a woman materialized at the podium in front of the screen, a microphone in hand. Without hesitation, she began to speak.
{Good evening, everyone, and welco ho.}
The voice was unmistakable. Styx, the AI responsible for the TSP and the empire’s space agency, had addressed them.
A ripple of acknowledgnt swept through the room. Everyone knew Styx.
{As you all know, this gathering is ant to bring everyone up to speed on the changes that have taken place in the empire during your ti away. To make it easier to process, the update has been divided into two parts: a general update and a targeted update. This gathering serves as the general update, where you will be briefed on all the major events that occurred in the empire.}
As Styx spoke, the massive screen behind her lit up with images, diagrams, and footage, reinforcing her words and providing a visual representation of the information being shared.
{The targeted updates will be handled individually. After this session, you will have the opportunity to list specific topics of interest, and a personalized summary will be curated for you. This will be available in imrsion mode for a more in-depth experience. Unlike that, this session will be presented in video format, as it was deed the most efficient way to convey such a vast amount of information in a short period of ti.}
She paused briefly, allowing everyone a mont to process her words. Then, without further delay, she concluded,
{Let’s begin.}
With that, Styx’s figure vanished from the stage, and the massive screen behind her started playing the long-awaited video.
"Just as the empire's formation, from war to complete unification happened within a remarkably short ti, the past decade has seen an equally staggering series of events. Massive cultural shifts, the discovery and creation of new intelligent life, an interstellar war, and even a one-on-one battle between our Emperor and the Interstellar Coalition’s representative. The empire has truly lived through a decade where centuries happen."
The narrator's words hinted at the gravity of what was to co, drawing the audience in. The ntion of interstellar war and the creation of intelligent life left many shifting in their seats, eager to understand what had transpired during their absence.
"Today, we will bring you up to speed, covering everything from the least to the most significant events, ensuring you gain a comprehensive understanding of all that has shaped the empire."
The screen transitioned smoothly, now displaying an interface resembling a recomndation feed filled with diverse thumbnails, so depicting modern settings, others dieval, fantastical, or even futuristic.
"The first topic on today’s agenda is the SFGS or the Simulated Fantasy Ga Show. Launched in Year 5 AE by GAIA Technologies, this entertainnt revolution has since dominated the empire’s pop culture, overshadowing all previous forms of dia and showing no signs of decline."
"Have you ever dread of waking up in a dieval world where you could change the course of the Roman Empire with your modern knowledge? Or perhaps becoming the strategist who led Carthage to victory in the First Punic War? Maybe history isn't your thing then how about exploring a sci-fi universe, forging an interstellar empire, or becoming the richest person in a futuristic society? Or do you prefer fantasy, where you can slay dragons, rise to power, and shape the fate of kingdoms? If none of that appeals, would you rather simply watch others take on these challenges? If so, then this is your dream co true."
The narrator's voice carried an almost hypnotic allure as the visuals shifted, showing snapshots of these worlds, battlefields, thriving cities, towering castles, and deep-space starships.
"These worlds are generated at the start of each year, with contestants applying and being selected to participate. Once chosen, they enter deep-state VR pods for two real-world months, fully imrsed in these simulated environnts. Thanks to a twenty-four-tis ti acceleration, they experience the equivalent of four years inside these worlds.
During their ti there, episodes docunting their struggles, triumphs, and the impact they leave behind are released weekly to the general public. Unlike traditional scripted television, these experiences unfold in real-ti, making them unpredictable and filled with unexpected situations. Viewers are not just watching a story—they are witnessing real people navigating entirely new worlds, facing challenges with no predetermined outcos. This authenticity is what makes SFGS so imrsive, drawing audiences deeper into the ever-evolving narratives."
