Then ca the manufacturing or refurbishing.
For so components with new designs, improvents needed to be made at the manufacturing plant; once improved, they were transported here. Other components could be adjusted in the factory to achieve the desired effect.
Zhao Yi quickly ca up with the parater sche.
The entire engine team beca busy, with many engineers involved in the design adjustnts. Since it was just a matter of adjusting performance paraters rather than creating a new design, the sche was easy to co by.
Zhao Yi’s job turned into reviewing the project reports and then deciding which sche to implent or whether to modify an existing one.
Very quickly.
A week passed.
All component adjustnt sches were finalized, and it was ti to contact the manufacturing plant; those that could be directly corrected at the factory were promptly revised.
The engine team’s operation room beca a hive of activity.
At the sa ti, the Warhawk team submitted a flight test application to the Aviation Group, as several experienced engineers, including Yuan Haitao’s team, indicated the engine’s established paraters in the report.
By now, it was almost a month since Zhao Yi had arrived at the factory, and there was only a re three weeks left until the set prototype assembly ti.
As Yuan Haitao busied himself with work, he couldn’t help but exclaim, "Indeed, Academician Zhao had said it would take three weeks."
"Say three weeks, and it’s three weeks!"
"This ti, I’m genuinely convinced!"
...
The Warhawk engine team was one of the most important and technically advanced research teams in the Aviation Group. Their reports and applications were promptly handed to the managent by the staff.
Two hours later, Liu Jiankun had the report in his hands, his face full of confusion and puzzlent, "A flight test application?"
"The Warhawk team?"
"If I’m not mistaken, they’re developing the Warhawk-1 engine, the top-end model? Led by Academician Zhao..."
"Also, I rember about a month ago, soone ntioned that the Warhawk-1 engine was almost assembled, right?"
Liu Jiankun spoke several sentences to his assistant, not sure if he was really talking to his assistant or just mumbling to himself. He was filled with disbelief, mainly because everything was happening too fast.
Even with confidence in Zhao Yi’s research and developnt capabilities, how could an engine that was ’nearly’ assembled just a month ago seem not much ti had passed, and now they’re applying for a flight test?
"This efficiency is a bit... worriso!"
Liu Jiankun thought for a mont, then decided not to call Zhao Yi but to find Zhu Zhen, the engineering team leader assigned to the Warhawk team, "Why has the Warhawk team submitted a flight test application?"
His tone was questioning.
Zhu Zhen was obviously very excited and agitated, "General Manager Liu, our research and developnt progress has been surprisingly fast!"
"Extrely successful!"
"An unimaginable success!"
"I still think I’m dreaming, but..." Zhu Zhen used a slew of adjectives before getting to the point, "The first operational test of our assembled engine was a success, and at that ti, we already t the standards for applying for a flight test. It was Academician Zhao who suggested we make it more perfect before applying."
"I dare say, the current Warhawk-1 engine has been perfected beyond imagination, it could be directly mounted on fighter jets, not just for test flights, but for mass production, deploynt, service..."
Zhu Zhen used ’beyond imagination’ several tis to describe, and Liu Jiankun’s feelings were also ’beyond imagination’, because he felt like he was listening to a story, not sothing that really happened.
Warhawk-1 engine?
Perfected to the point of being ready for mass production and deploynt so quickly?
"Impossible!"
Liu Jiankun couldn’t bring himself to believe it.
While Zhao Yi was indeed a genius in scientific research, engine optimization and tuning were ti-consuming tasks. The Kunlun engine was a lesson from the past, and there would definitely be a plethora of issues when the engine was first assembled. It was impressive enough if the first operational test succeeded, but it could have been only operational, right?
"Zhu Zhen’s words are too exaggerated!"
After pondering for a while, Liu Jiankun looked at the flight test application report in his hands and finally decided to see for himself what the situation was to know for sure.
...
Liu Jiankun decided to see for himself precisely because he didn’t believe the report from the Warhawk engine team, nor did he believe in Zhu Zhen’s words.
But he didn’t want anyone to know.
In case the situation was really as the report described and exactly as Zhu Zhen said, thinking about others knowing his disbelief was sowhat embarrassing. He was the General Manager of the Aviation Group. He had to maintain his reputation, so a good excuse was necessary for personally checking the situation.
What excuse?
Liu Jiankun simply decided to bring others along, including other high-level leaders of the Aviation Group and two senior Air Force officers, as well as the head of the performance testing departnt and one professional test pilot.
The foremost group consisted of leaders. If several of them went together, it could be said to be an ’inspection of work’ to understand the Warhawk engine team’s situation and see if they had any needs to be addressed.
The latter part, involving the testing departnt head and the pilot, was directly related to the flight test application.
You want to apply for a test flight? Then simply bring the person in charge of the testing departnt and the professional test pilot along. If the engine ets the standards and you coordinate with the person in charge of the testing departnt, you can imdiately find a test aircraft to install and conduct the flight test.
