"Recomnded for admission to a program? Makes sense."
"But that would take up a spot in our class’s recomndations, right?" Zhao Yi muttered softly, though it didn’t really matter whether it occupied a spot or not. What he wanted to ask was, "Then in my case, I guess I would choose you to be my..."
"I’m not taking you!" Wei Shiqing decisively refused and then hung up the phone.
"What kind of person is that!" Zhao Yi was a bit frustrated but didn’t care too much; one rejection could be followed by another since he knew plenty of people.
School of Life Sciences, dean’s office.
Weiqing took a deep breath and recounted the recent interaction with Dean Wu Yanping, "That kid Zhao Yi... cough cough, I have no idea what Academician Zhao is thinking, suddenly wanting to apply for graduate school, and even suggesting I be his ntor..."
Wu Yanping asked in confusion, "I thought Academician Zhao was supposed to ntor students next year?"
"He probably doesn’t want to."
"Right," said Wu Yanping, "Academician Zhao is still young; ntoring students might be a bit awkward for him." She was referring to the age issue between students and teachers. If Zhao Yi were to graduate and ntor graduate students, so of his students might be around his age or even older.
"But if he doesn’t ntor students, he can’t do his graduate studies either!" Wei Shiqing complained, "Who would dare to take him as a student? Are you kidding ? With his achievents, he’s nearly ready for a Nobel in dicine! And it’s not as if Academician Zhao continuing his studies is a small matter either."
"Hmm."
Wu Yanping nodded thoughtfully and said with a frown, "So what do we do? If Academician Zhao is determined to pursue graduate studies, he’s certainly qualified to be recomnded, even if it’s just for securing a spot. For him to take the exams...
"Let him take the exams! Graduate school exams are not that easy!" Wei Shiqing said in a frustrated tone.
"No, taking the exam would be fine; that’s not a concern. But what if Academician Zhao really applies to be a ntor?" Wu Yanping shook her head, "We need to think of sothing... Right, Academician Zhao indeed hasn’t done his graduate or doctoral studies; is he perhaps looking to get a degree?"
"Maybe," Wei Shiqing agreed, nodding, "Every famous scholar out there is branded with a doctorate from so university. Academician Zhao doesn’t even have a bachelor’s degree yet. Perhaps we should..."
"!#¥%..."
The two started to discuss the matter ticulously.
Elsewhere.
Zhao Yi had made over a dozen phone calls without achieving the desired result. With acquaintances not so close, he politely apologized. Those he knew well almost cursed him out, "Zhao Yi, don’t ruin !"
"I’m your math teacher, and already many people tease for it. Now you want to ntor your graduate studies? You might as well use as a test subject and study !"
"No, no, Zhao Yi, I’m going to tell the academic affairs office right now that I won’t be taking any students next year."
"..."
Zhao Yi realized that he had driven people to the point of deciding not to take on students and couldn’t continue the conversation. His experience proved how unreliable Li Renzhe’s words were; it was simply impossible to find a ntor within the fields of science and engineering for graduate studies.
"Forget it, let’s go with the arts!"
"I’ll go to the library tomorrow to read so books. Regardless of what I study or which field I apply to, increasing my knowledge reserve can’t hurt."
Zhao Yi made up his mind.
The next morning, he didn’t get up until after eight, went out for breakfast, then strolled back leisurely, planning to visit the library after getting ready. However, the hallway suddenly beca lively.
"Old Li, check out what’s going on!"
Zhao Yi turned his head and shouted.
Li Renzhe was mopping the doorway because he was the only one around most of the ti, and since he often smoked and polluted the air, he occasionally had to do so cleaning to contribute to the dormitory’s hygiene.
He heard the noise in the hallway and didn’t wait for Zhao Yi to remind him; he directly looked outside and soon saw a group of people walking over, "Won... old ladies... cough cough, looks like it’s Dean Wu?"
"Dean Wu! Professor Wei!"
As the group approached, Li Renzhe didn’t need to ’guess’ anymore and called out loudly as a reminder to Zhao Yi.
Zhao Yi turned his head toward the door.
Wu Yanping, Wei Shiqing, and several other teachers from the College of Life Sciences and the academic administration stood at the dormitory entrance, politely asking if they could co in. Wu Yanping and Wei Shiqing then entered together.
In Wei’s hands were several diplomas and certificates, and he approached Zhao Yi with enthusiasm, "Academician Zhao! Hearing about your interest in graduate studies yesterday, we reflected that the university shouldn’t apply regular rules to top scholars like you."
"With your capabilities and achievents, you are more than qualified for a doctoral degree in any related field from any university in the world. We’ve communicated with the academic affairs office and unanimously decided to award you the master’s, doctoral degrees, and the title of graduate!"
"Here, take a look."
Wei handed the certificates to Zhao Yi and then continued, "The duration of study will be the sa as your undergraduate period, and I’ve listed biodical science as the major because you’re a researcher at the dical institute. I hope you won’t find it strange. If you have any specific major requirents, it can still be changed."
"Also..."
Another academic affairs teacher brought in a brand-new black academic robe, placing it on a nearby table, "This is your graduation gown."
"Don’t worry, your bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees are all exactly the sa as those of other students. If you wish to take group photos for mories, you can do so next year when your cohort graduates..."
