He simply went to the stadium, found a football to kick around, and then went to class when it was ti.
The major course in biological science wasn’t very interesting.
Zhao Yi just listened to his superiors and flipped through the textbook before resting his head on the desk. Earning so ’Rest Coins’ didn’t feel like a waste of ti, but killing ti really wasn’t easy. He kept checking his phone and even refreshed his email regularly, but there was nothing to be found.
"Damn it!"
"Edward is such an asshole! Can’t he just complete his sentence!"
Zhao Yi couldn’t help but swear out loud.
By lunchti, his mood had improved slightly. He and Qian Hong sat at a small table, talking about Edward’s sowhat ’bizarre’ phone call from the day before, "That old man Edward has been working for more than twenty hours straight. Camilla and I were the ones who said it. She’s that female student of Edward’s that you’ve t, right? She’s now Edward’s personal assistant."
"By the way, Sister Qian Hong, you’re my personal assistant too, right?"
Qian Hong imdiately shook her head, "We don’t have a work contract."
"But the school asked you to take care of , and there’s even an extra bonus for it, right?" Zhao Yi looked at her seriously.
Qian Hong was unhappy and sulked, "Yes, but it’s minimal, they only gave an extra one thousand last month."
"You’re just part-ti."
"Fine." Qian Hong reluctantly nodded in acknowledgnt, "But what are you trying to tell ? Do you want to beco a full-ti personal assistant? But I won’t leave the school."
She ant that she wouldn’t work exclusively for Zhao Yi.
Zhao Yi laughed, "No need, part-ti is good enough. I’m still young, I don’t need a full-ti personal assistant. But Camilla even manages Edward’s sleep, really ... quite professional. And you are my personal assistant, also part-ti ..."
Qian Hong was so nervous that she almost knocked over her lunch box. She blushed and replied, "What are you saying! Personal assistant, even...even manages sleep? Impossible! You must be kidding."
"I’m serious."
Zhao Yi explained seriously, "Camilla has to take care of Edward’s life, which of course includes monitoring his rest ti and keeping a record to ensure that he gets enough sleep."
"Really?"
"Just that? What did you think it was? You couldn’t have..." Zhao Yi felt sowhat confused.
"What is what!" Qian Hong glared at him fiercely and gritted her teeth, saying, "You did it on purpose!"
"Hahaha."
Looking at the three ’Flirting Points’ he had just earned, Zhao Yi showed a satisfied smile.
...
At four in the afternoon, while Zhao Yi was in class, he finally got a call from Edward Witten. He stood up excitedly, apologized to the teacher, and quickly went out to answer the phone.
"Zhao Yi, you’re right! The power of 2, it’s magical! I even dread about this! This is incredible!"
Edward Witten was full of astonishnt as he started talking.
Rather than excited, Zhao Yi cald down when he heard this. He knew Edward Witten must’ve made so new discoveries and wanted to share them with him. He wasn’t in a rush, but asked with a smile, "What happened?"
Edward Witten explained eagerly, "You know, I have been researching the points of the M Theory. I found that most of the mass points marked have an interval that contains the power of 2."
Zhao Yi was so surprised that he opened his mouth wide, but he maintained his composure and asked calmly, "What does that an?"
"What does it an? What are you talking about! This ans that the power of 2 may possess so kind of magic...."
"Really?"
Zhao Yi interrupted with a laugh, "You said it’s just most, not all. And even if it was all, it could still just be a coincidence. So numbers being included in a specific range of values is normal. You’re saying that the ’power of 2’ is magical because of this? You must’ve gone mad."
"What are you talking about! Isn’t your research based on the sa principle, don’t you understand what we’re doing..."
Edward burst out laughing, "No kidding, I get it now. You’re getting even with , aren’t you?"
"...Alright then."
Realizing that his prank has been discovered, Zhao Yi beca much more serious, "I’ll head back now for a video call."
"OK, awaiting your call!"
The two quickly connected via video call.
In the video fra, Edward Witten’s hair was a matted ss, he had dark circles under his eyes, and his shirt was all crumpled. Clearly, he had just gotten out of bed and looked anything but put-together. If seated on a sidewalk, he could easily be mistaken for a holess person.
Zhao Yi made fun of Edward Witten’s unkempt appearance before talking about their research, "So, it seems our research finally found a common ground."
Edward Witten nodded vigorously, "Yes, and it’s the ideal commonality -- Mass. We were hoping to explore the concept of mass from the perspective of high dinsional space. This discovery will serve as powerful evidence." His eyes lit up as he spoke.
Zhao Yi gave a dismissive grunt but responded, "Anyway, 2 to the power of N, these figures are indeed research-worthy." However, he didn’t necessarily believe they had discovered any ’proof that mass cos from higher-dinsional space.’
Edward’s argunt about points of mass was indeed based on the mathematical frawork of M Theory. But because most of it was constructed rather than deduced purely logically, it could be interpreted differently.
For instance, it might just be the structural frawork of the mass of a microscopic particle.
M Theory was derived from superstring theory, which revolves around multidinsional spaces. But three-dinsional space is also included within multidinsional spaces. To so extent, the math from the theory could be applied in ’three-dinsional space’ as well.
Thus, even if they have found the marvel of ’2 to the power of N’ and proven the validity of particle energy theory, it wouldn’t necessarily validate the existence of multidinsional spaces or the notion that mass originates in these higher dinsions.
Of course.
It wasn’t the right ti to dampen Edward Witten’s enthusiasm.
Zhao Yi didn’t continue down that path of discussion. Instead, he began to inquire about Edward Witten’s research on the proofs of mass points. Edward explained part of it and showed interest in Zhao Yi’s photon boundary energy distribution problem.
They discussed and validated each other’s theories.
They soon realized that explaining such concepts through video calls had its limitations.
"I’m coming over! Now, imdiately!" Upon realizing he couldn’t fully grasp Zhao Yi’s point over the call, Edward Witten abruptly stood up. "Yes, right away. I’m going submit a request."
"Hold on, I’ll be there shortly!"
Having said this, Edward Witten abruptly ended the call.
Zhao Yi stared at his screen for quite so ti before he checked the ti, "Five-thirty? It’s five-thirty in the morning over there. Imdiately?"
"Hehe..."
Of course, Edward Witten wouldn’t be able to ’take action imdiately’. He’d have to wait until at least nine o’clock when official working hours started to apply for an academic exchange. On top of that, his application might not even be approved.
Top scholars going abroad for an academic exchange need to apply well in advance. There’s also the challenge of the slow pace of the university’s approval process. Beyond that, he would have to obtain a visa that involves visiting the consulate.
All these steps take ti.
Zhao Yi was looking forward to Edward Witten’s arrival so they could corroborate their respective research. However, he thought if Edward could arrive within half a month, that would already be quite fast. What he didn’t expect was that only two days later, he received a call from Edward Witten, "What did you say? You’re almost here?"
"Really, seriously?"
"You’re not fooling , are you? Are you trying to get to run to the university gate and then tell it was a ploy to get to exercise and stay healthy?"
Zhao Yi felt he might be getting ’pranked’ but went to the university entrance anyway. To his surprise, after a short wait, Edward Witten arrived.
When he saw Edward Witten in person, he rubbed his eyes hard in disbelief and asked, "How did you manage to get here in two days? Is your efficiency always this high?"
"How could that be? The staff at the university are all bunch of slackers, I couldn’t even get a hold of the person-in-charge until ten." Edward Witten grumbled before continuing, "I told him I needed to go, and he said it required an application and would take so ti. I ended up having a big fight with him."
"Eventually, I got a visa, bought a plane ticket, and I left him a note before leaving. It read...I’m gone. If you’re unsatisfied with anything, feel free to fire !"
With a look of awe, Zhao Yi gave Edward Witten a big thumbs-up.
