The initial theory of digital compression technology was developed by Terence Tao.
Terence Tao only ca up with the fundantal theory. Zhao Yi improved on it, increasing its performance several tis over.
With the materials provided by Liu Tong’en, Zhao Yi made so appropriate modifications to the theory, making it more suitable for satellite positioning and imaging. He further modified the theory to so extent.
The current theory can be described as tailor-made for satellite positioning and imaging. If the theory is followed to develop algorithms, software, and compatible hardware, performance can be greatly increased, by at least ten tis.
Many in the Science Academy appreciated the importance of basic theory after listening to Zhao Yi’s explanation.
What is most lacking in our country is the fundantal theory of science and technology.
Like the most basic operating system, dostic developnt started late. By the ti they caught up with international developnt, other countries already had operating systems. Many manufacturers simply adopted those instead of developing their own.
A single Windows system made Microsoft what it is today. One can imagine how complex it is to research operating systems, requiring continuous significant investnt.
If there’s an existing usable system, major investnt in research seems aningless and will most likely result in losses.
Many dostic technologies are in this situation.
While available options could be simply used, the inevitable loss from self-developnt discourages this path. But strategic national systems like a satellite navigation system can’t just be ’bought’, the whole set of suitable systems does not exist.
Previously, it was a rudintary system, with hardware pieced together using a mishmash of parts, resulting in subpar performance.
Now, with Zhao Yi’s comprehensive theory, hardware can be configured and software can be developed based on the theory, which will yield better performance.
This is a huge accomplishnt.
Performance improvent ans higher satellite accuracy. Not to ntion its strategic significance, it also significantly reduces monetary investnt.
For example, with the adaptation of the new theory, where previously ten satellites needed to be launched in the sa direction, maybe now only six are needed. This greatly reduces the investnt needed.
Many those involved in the national navigation system were excited.
Liu Tong’en was particularly enthusiastic about Zhao Yi. After his latest explanation, he shook Zhao Yi’s hand and exclaid excitedly, "This theory is wonderful, you are a true contributor! I will definitely report this. In next year’s election, I will nominate you for academician. If anyone has an objection then, I will argue with them right there!"
"Thank you, Academician Liu!" Zhao Yi nodded with a smile, showing little concern.
He had learned about the academician issue when he was promoted to associate professor. Knowing that most academicians are over 50 years old, he lost interest.
Zhao Yi felt the academician issue should be taken lightly. If there’s an opportunity, fine, if not, that’s okay too. It’s best not to take it too seriously.
This perspective was due to his age.
If he beca an academician too early, he felt it would sap his motivation. What could he do then?
After all, there would be nothing more to aspire to.
Furthermore, the title of academician may be useful, perhaps even a life affirmation, for others, but it doesn’t an much to him.
Will it be easier to apply for projects?
He already has an easy ti applying for projects. Even an academician in physics would find it difficult to apply for theoretical physics topics, but he was able to get a multidinsional universe boundary research project.
Is it a life affirmation?
Does he still need affirmation?
Upon completing the Goldbach Conjecture, he is the world’s top number theory expert. There isn’t even a "one of" in this equation.
So, whether he gets recognition or not doesn’t really matter.
Actually, the chances for Zhao Yi to beco an academician are quite high, as he is basically a ’free agent’ in the academic circle.
Dostically, there are schools of thought, but Zhao Yi belongs to none.
So people consider him a student of the "He Sect", but the teachers of the "He Sect" haven’t beco academicians, and there are only a few students of this sect, so it doesn’t qualify as a school of thought.
Yanhua University can’t be considered a school of thought either. The university’s influence is too small to form a school of thought.
It’s like a disciple from a small manor battling against larger factions like Shaolin and Beggars’ Sect, it’s essentially the sa as having no faction.
So academicians still consider Zhao Yi a ’free agent’. For other ’free agents’, becoming an academician would be extrely difficult.
But it’s different for Zhao Yi.
His research achievents are so significant that it leaves people speechless. The Goldbach Conjecture alone is enough.
In the academic world, ability takes precedence.
Those who rely on interpersonal relationships to beco an academician, are primarily those whose achievents cannot convince the public. For instance, if you research a level three achievent and I do the sa, who can beco an academician?
That’s when interpersonal relationships beco important.
Zhao Yi, on the other hand, presented a full level achievent and has been recognized as top-level worldwide. How can people with level three achievents compete with that?
Many hopefuls for academician were left feeling troubled.
The election for academician happens every two years, and a new round of additions will obviously take place.
At this ti, many who were hopeful of achieving this were making preparations, with scholars in the field of mathematics and computer science being the most troubled.
Think about it.
If they were evaluated with Zhao Yi for academician, and Zhao Yi didn’t make it but they did...
It would be awkward.
Once the news hit the dia, there would be massive skepticism, "Why did XXX beco an academician in mathematics, and Zhao Yi, who completed the Goldbach Conjecture, didn’t? Could they possibly be more capable than Zhao Yi?"
Those evaluated themselves and the academic departnt would face external questioning.
The public doesn’t care about the process of academician selection or any internal rules. What they see is Zhao Yi not becoming an academician in mathematics while soone else did.
In the logic of the public, those with more outstanding research achievents should definitely be awarded the status of an academician; those whose achievents are unheard of, if they are awarded, there must be so shady operations involved.
At that point, the status of academician they receive may feel like a hot potato.
This is all under the assumption that Zhao Yi hasn’t done anything yet.
If Zhao Yi doesn’t gain academician status and decides to go abroad for research, the public will definitely sympathize with Zhao Yi. They would assu he left because he didn’t receive the recognition, and that foreign institutions would offer him a higher rating and a better environnt.
Those who were made academicians... they would be perceived as the sinners who drove away a national treasure level genius!
...
Zhao Yi hasn’t thought that deeply. He stayed at the Science Academy for a week, mainly explaining mathematical theories and taking a tour of the institute.
Both the Mathematics and Software Institutions hoped that Zhao Yi would take up a research position at the Science Academy.
Zhao Yi definitely wouldn’t agree to do full-ti research at the Science Academy, but the terms proposed by the Mathematics and Software Institutions were quite good - to be nad in the Science Academy and help complete so large-scale projects.
He thought about Wei Shiqing.
Wei Shiqing was an affiliated researcher at the Science Academy, only responsible for refining part of the microbial mathematical library. His usual workplace was the microbiology laboratory, and he also taught at Yanhua University.
In the end, Zhao Yi accepted the invitation from the Mathematics Institution.
The research of the applied mathematical system theory is very crucial. The Mathematics Institution has several related research topics that need manpower for research and refinent. With his position as a professor of mathematics at Yanhua University, it wouldn’t be bad to find so ti for it.
Apart from that, the remuneration is not low either.
Besides an annual salary of one hundred thousand, the housing provident fund can be added up as well, and the funds for the applied mathematics theory project are not sparse. For projects like applied mathematics, the funding base is not taken back. As long as the project is completed, all the funds will belong to the individual.
Zhao Yi valued this aspect very much.
It’s not because he is particularly greedy, but because everyone would want to receive their rightful salary.
Others would need to spend a year, two years, or even longer on the sa project, with the cost going up to millions.
If he completed it in one or two months and there weren’t many expenses in the middle, would they only give him a symbolic hundred thousand in return, and claim back all the other funds?
This would be hard to accept. The sense of high efficiency would lose its aning.
Many projects supported by national funds work this way. Every expense has to be reported for application. Whether attending an academic conference, or paying for flight tickets and hotels, everything needs to be reimbursed, or the unreimbursed part would be reclaid after the project ends.
So, Zhao Yi preferred projects where the funds wouldn’t be reclaid.
Contributing to the developnt of national technology is one thing, but he also wants to receive what he deserves.
A week later.
Zhao Yi was prepared to leave.
Many people from the Mathematics and Software Institutions wished Zhao Yi could stay a bit longer. Liu Tong’en visited Zhao Yi several tis continuously, and even went to Liu Hemin’s house at night.
"Zhao Yi, the sumr holiday lasts for a while, doesn’t it? School doesn’t start till the beginning of September, right? Why are you leaving so early... "
"It’s not even August yet!"
"You’re not rushing, are you!"
"I wanted you to stay for a few more days, there are a few mathematical problems..."
"Plus, the transformation of your theory is quite difficult. The people at the Software Institution said they want you to guide them. You are a recognized algorithm expert..."
Liu Hemin, who was entertaining Liu Tong’en, also looked up at Zhao Yi. He hoped Zhao Yi could stay a little longer. He felt very enlightened discussing computer science and mathematics with Zhao Yi every day. Zhao’s so ideas and thought processes often offered people new perspectives.
Zhao Yi, however, shook his head. "I need to go ho for a few days, I can only go back once a year."
"But you don’t need to stay that long..."
The reason that he wanted to go ho and be with his parents was indeed quite sufficient.
Liu Tong’en thought, one more day of Zhao Yi’s stay would be precious. Zhao Yi’s ideas and guidance were crucial for project developnt. They could speed up the process while greatly enhancing efficiency at the sa ti.
Zhao Yi kept shaking his head. "I have to go back." He continued, "I can’t stay in Zhengyang for long either. I will be going to the capital in half a month."
"Why?" Liu Hemin asked.
"I am also a researcher at the Biodical Research Institute!" Zhao Yi said, "My lab is working on a major project, and we’ve made great progress."
When talking about the research in his laboratory, he felt sowhat proud. "Don’t just pay attention to my maths, actually my lab has a lot of achievents. This ti it’s even more significant!"
"Really?"
"Seriously..."
Liu Hemin and Liu Tong’en exchanged glances, both sowhat skeptical.
Biodical Research Institute?
Laboratory research?
What breakthrough could they have made in research on dical chanisms?
"Probably Zhao Yi thinks too much of dicine. It makes sense. Just like a soccer player, no matter how good their soccer skills are, they probably don’t care much. But they are proud of their good basketball skills."
"Because soccer is work, basketball is a hobby."
Liu Hemin thought he understood.
Liu Tong’en had similar thoughts. Knowing he couldn’t persuade Zhao Yi, he didn’t continue.
It’s okay for Zhao Yi to be interested in research on dical chanisms and carry it out.
After all, he’s still young. Having a hobby is quite good.
