Zhao Yi hesitated for a mont.
The old man in front of him was babbling, but he was certainly a figure deeply committed to physical research. He finally answered, "I am wondering how to find the Higgs particle."
"You’re looking for the Higgs particle?"
"Yes!"
Kibor asked for confirmation, "You want to find the Higgs particle from this massive pile of data?"
"Yes?"
"It’s impossible!" Kibor shook his head with certainty.
"Why?"
Kibor explained, "You’re a mathematician, right? I don’t know how much you understand about Quantum Physics, but judging by the question you just asked, I’d say you’re a novice."
"That’s true..." Zhao Yi admitted casually.
In the field of Quantum Physics, he was indeed a novice. There were many basic things he didn’t know at all.
Kibor continued, "Alright, young man, to help clear up your confusion, let explain it to you in detail."
"The current collision experints aim primarily to search for the particle standard model, with finding the God Particle being one of the primary goals."
"But do you know why we call it the ’test’ experint? Testing ans it’s not ’official’, and the current collider performance is not sufficient to discover new particles. The collation and analysis we are conducting now might yield so results, but more often, it’s about gaining experience."
"To find a new particle, the most viable thod is when there are enough new particles. The influence on the overall data will certainly increase. When collating and analyzing the data, a distinct bulge can be found at the position of the new particles."
"As for the current collider’s performance, finding the God particle is almost impossible..."
Kibor and Edmir’s statents are different but an essentially the sa thing. Even if the Higgs particle does exist, because the quantity is so small, it doesn’t significantly affect the overall data and is not enough to be found.
Kibor talked about the thod of finding the Higgs particle, which is to analyze a large amount of data and look for anomalies within the data.
After listening to Kibor, Zhao Yi felt he had gained a deeper understanding.
If he were to search for the Higgs particle normally, he would certainly have to conduct a heavyweight collision experint, compile massive amounts of data, and find a distinct bulge at the 125 GeV position.
Obviously.
He couldn’t complete the task that way. The discovery of the Higgs particle was made by the European Center for Nuclear Research, not related to him.
Moreover, even if he participated in the experintal discovery process, it would take too long.
Kibor had already said that the performance of the collider was not sufficient to discover the Higgs particle. Even if an official experint was conducted, there was little hope of finding the Higgs particle. They would have to wait until future upgrades were made to the collider before discoveries could be made.
So... should he find another path?
Zhao Yi pondered.
Next, Kibor drew Zhao Yi into a discussion about three-dinsional waveform diagrams. He wasn’t kidding; he genuinely believed the waveform diagram contained the secrets of the universe and could help him explore ’universe strings’.
"Right now, the universe string is just an individual concept, but I hope to introduce the concept of universe strings into modern cosmology."
"This is the first step, and a very important one."
"Maybe I won’t live to see it, but I believe that the universe strings are the key to breaking through space-ti research!
"This will be proven in the future!"
"..."
During their discussion, Zhao Yi felt like he was having a conversation with a theologian. Every few sentences, his conversation partner would exclaim, "God is almighty!"
"God is the creator!"
"God is everything..."
Damn it!
Theoretical physicists are really freaks. After studying theoretical physics for a lifeti, could they all beco babblers in their later years?
"Universe strings?"
"Multidinsional space-ti?"
"Even analyzing an alien invasion of Earth would be more realistic than these universe strings and multidinsional space-ti!"
Zhao Yi left the conference center and returned to his team’s work site, only then discovering who exactly Tom Kibor was.
Tom Kibor made his na forty years ago, his fa directly correlated with the Higgs particle; he, Gerard Gulani, and Carl Hagen published a paper presenting the Higgs chanism and the Higgs Boson particle.
While Tom Kibor was not the sole proponent of the Higgs chanism and the Higgs Boson particle, the Higgs particle being hailed as the God Particle led those who initially researched it to unprecedented fa.
Kibor specialized in tensor field theory and greatly contributed to the intersection of high-energy particle physics and cosmology. His most significant achievent in the last decade was his research on cosmic strings, for which he published three papers on the cosmic string chanism in top-tier physics journals.
"So everything that old guy said was true..."
"Everything he said about cosmic strings, multidinsional space, those are things either currently under research or being hypothesized... is that why he seed a bit neurotic?"
"Could it be as he said, that waveform diagrams can be used to explain the universe?"
Zhao Yi actually hoped soone could use three-dinsional quake waveforms to explain bigger, more aningful concepts -- explaining the universe would be fantastic. Because the three-dinsional quake waveforms are his, if soone can add more significance to the waveforms, he would own a significant portion of the achievent. But musing on it seed pointless, for he definitely was not interested in delving deep into the theoretical aspects of physics, and if he studied further, perhaps he would drift towards theology?
Recalling Kibor’s deanor, he quickly shook off the thought from his head.
Kibor pointed out a thod to find new instances to Zhao Yi, who then discounted the feasibility of this thod, but at least Zhao Yi accepted it as impossible.
Therefore, a new approach had to be devised.
"Try doing predictions? Even though predictions need to be proven with reasons..."
"The Higgs particle itself is a prediction; predicting the mass of the Higgs particle doesn’t have much value. It won’t be found if it’s not ant to be found..."
"The purpose of forecasting is to guide others to search, but the particles produced by collision experints are too few, the basic thods definitely can’t locate it."
Zhao Yi returned to his workspace.
After wandering outside for almost a day, he still had no idea how to prove the Higgs particle.
Even though he knew the mass of the Higgs particle, because the Higgs particle is invisible, and the data from the experintal tests are too scant, it wouldn’t be detected at all, even with analysis.
In this state of cluelessness, he might as well do sothing else, like help Chen Ming with his calculations.
Chen Ming was always working hard. He slept less than six hours each day, just to swiftly complete his calculation work at hand.
Currently, the computation work had beco his stress.
After thinking over it for over a day, Chen Ming finally ca to terms with it, feeling that he shouldn’t compare himself with Zhao Yi. In his mind, Zhao Yi had beco synonymous with a monster.
How could a human compare to a monster?
If this monster could give assistance, it would be more than perfect for him!
When Zhao Yi proposed to help Chen Ming ease his workload, Chen Ming imdiately grinned in agreent. He sent over part of his data, and then grumbled, "These data are too complex. If there was a fixed program that could filter the data or automatically perform calculations, that would be fantastic."
"But it’s impossible; the calculations are too complex."
Chen Ming said, shaking his head.
Zhao Yi was about to make a cup of coffee when he suddenly froze after hearing Chen’s words, "What did you just say?"
"I said it’d be great if there was a program to automatically perform calculations...?"
"Ability to filter data, what’s up?" Chen Ming looked at him in confusion.
"Exactly!"
Zhao Yi shook his arm vigorously, "Exactly! Filtering! The filtering thod!"
"Filtering thod? What about it? Did you recall your filtering thod?"
"No!"
Zhao Yi imdiately shook his head, saying apologetically, "Brother Chen, I need to research sothing and temporarily can’t help you with your work. I apologize."
After saying that, he imdiately returned to his computer.
Chen Ming stared blankly over at him and after a mont, he slapped his own face hard!
Serves you right for your loose lips!
There you go!
When this monster ca over to help with so of the work, so much ti could have been saved. But a single sentence drove the monster away...
This is too upsetting!
