"He was at a loss for words, so he simply gave a vigorous thumbs up.
ng Zheng smiled.
As they chatted, they noticed the empty bed. The bedding was neatly laid out and even the mosquito net was set up, but there were no personal items in sight.
Fan Lei sat down on a chair underneath the bed and said, "No idea what this guy is up to. Yesterday I saw two people making his bed. Turns out they’re Computer Science Ph.D.s, but the guy himself was nowhere to be found. So weird."
ng Zheng walked over to take a look at the na pasted next to the bed, "Zhao Yi, the na sounds familiar!"
"Wait, that Zhao Yi? The genius high school student?"
"What genius high school student?"
"You don’t know?" ng Zheng suddenly spoke up, "He’s from Nanjiang, a real genius high school student. He was even in the news a while ago for winning a math award abroad. I heard he’s also in the School of Life Sciences, but I’m not sure about his major."
"Seriously, what are the odds?" Li Renzhe exclaid in surprise.
"No way!"
Fan Lei was completely unconvinced.
"Bang, bang, bang!" Suddenly, the door to their room echoed with a knock.
"Co in!"
Fan Lei calmly called out.
Zhao Yi pushed the door open, checked the room number, and then asked, "This is room 301, right? The School of Life Sciences dorm?"
"Yes, you are..."
"Zhao Yi!" ng Zheng suddenly exclaid in surprise.
"What?"
"Exactly the Zhao Yi I was talking about!"
"Seriously?!"
All three of the roommates looked towards him.
Pointing at himself, Zhao Yi chuckled, "Sounds like you’re talking about ."
"Zhao Yi!"
"Co in!"
"Damn... Our roommate’s a celebrity!"
"He’s an international-level mathematician, mind you!"
"Co in, co in! I guessed it might be you when I saw the na, I can’t believe it actually is!"
A warm welco left Zhao Yi feeling sowhat awkward.
While he was used to enthusiastic greetings, it felt a bit strange when they ca from his three new roommates.
After getting settled in the dorm and introducing himself, he rembered his roommates’ nas--
ng Zheng.
Fan Lei.
Li Renzhe.
Zhao Yi asked about yesterday’s class eting and orientation, then idly sat on his bed and started chatting with the others.
The roommates were all amazed by Zhao Yi’s accomplishnts. The idea of having a celebrity roommate was both astounding and exhilarating. But after a little bit of chit-chat, they realized that besides his personal achievents, he was a regular guy they could easily converse with.
n’s topics of conversation quickly shift to won, especially when it’s a group of lively youngsters.
Fan Lei prided himself on his past girlfriends.
Li Renzhe enjoyed discussing girls in the School of Life Sciences, from the overall number of girls to who was beautiful. He had even conducted a survey claiming ’thirty percent of the females in our class are beauties,’ which led to a series of discussions about attractiveness.
Zhao Yi gave a thumbs up to his thod of strategically placing data and comparisons, he found it very persuasive.
What a sleazebag!
ng Zheng, ever shy, didn’t talk much and mostly just listened, refraining from voicing his opinions.
Li Renzhe explained, "ng Zheng’s girlfriend is quite attractive!"
After repeatedly hearing of this, Zhao Yi beca curious to et ng Zheng’s ravishing girlfriend.
When it was about three in the afternoon, they all decided to head to the computer lab to enroll in classes.
"Can’t we do this from the dorm?" Zhao Yi wasn’t too keen on lining up at the lab and his roommates didn’t seem too enthusiastic either.
"Well, I do have a computer, but we don’t have internet in the dorm yet!"
"It’s not set up?"
"Nope, we need to go to Logistics to pay the fee and then queue up for setup."
"Really?"
Zhao Yi checked a text ssage on his phone. It was from Xu Chao, who ca to help him yesterday along with a co-worker from the Laboratory of Intelligent and Automatic Systems. After they had left, he had sent Zhao Yi a ssage.
The ssage clearly stated--the internet is set up, log onto website xxxx, and input your userna and password.
"No need to go."
Zhao Yi showed them his phone, "I’ve already got internet here, it’s already been set up."
"Really?"
"Really!"
With a few clicks on his laptop, Zhao Yi connected to the internet. The speed was a bit disappointing, but it would serve the purpose of course selection.
In fact.
The others all leaned in to see the course selection screen, taking turns to log in and enroll in courses.
Zhao Yi chose ’Animal Physiology’ and ’Immunology,’ and selected ’Basketball’ as his required Physical Education course before giving up his seat to the others.
He pulled out his new sester schedule from his bag, jotted down the nas and locations of the two classes according to their timings, and added them to his titable.
Suddenly, as he looked at the titable, he felt like sothing was off.
"Why are there so few classes for our major?" Zhao Yi muttered, puzzled.
With so exaggeration, Fan Lei replied, "Are you comparing this to high school? You think our schedule is light? Except for Tuesdays and Fridays, we have classes all day, every day, and they are all major courses, leaving no room for anything else."
"But I’ve got Monday mornings free!"
"That’s impossible!"
Fan Lei swiftly looked over the titable and imdiately spotted the issue, "You don’t have..."
"Calculus, C programming, lab classes, they’re all missing!"
"You have four fewer courses than us!"
"..."
Everyone else took a look.
Zhao Yi compared his schedule with Fan Lei’s and indeed, he was missing Calculus and Computer Science classes.
"Teachers probably didn’t want to teach you!"
"You’ve won international awards for math, what else is there for you to learn!"
"Exactly!"
"No teacher wants a prodigy like you in the class for lectures!"
"Don’t worry. I’m pretty sure that even if you don’t have classes, you’ll still pass by the end of the sester."
Obviously!
Zhao Yi took deep breaths to stifle his frustration. He felt the faculty’s malice.
What’s this all about?
Even though I’m paying tuition just like everyone else, why don’t I get the sa classes?
This is so unfair!
