The Theoretical Group and the Z-wave Group had a multitude of tasks, but Ruan Wenye was the busiest and under the most pressure as he was the head of the Z-wave Group, thereby becoming the direct person in charge of the Energy Space Research Project.
The Energy Space Research Project was bound to beco a ga-project, with initial dostic investnts anticipated at five billion yuan, and a conservative estimate of the project size exceeding ten billion yuan.
Though the scale could not match that of a spacecraft, the two projects were not of the sa type.
Spacecraft manufacturing is a production project, divided into several sub-teams to tackle core technologies and finally produce the spacecraft, while the research of energy and space is a scientific project surpassing ten billion yuan, similar to particle collider projects.
Such projects are of a more academic nature, not aid at producing sothing specific.
As the project’s person in charge, Ruan Wenye was involved in many areas of work.
First and foremost was site selection.
The project had just conducted its feasibility study and announced it to the public, so site selection had to be expedited.
The project site could not be the experintal area of the Z-wave Group due mainly to scale issues. Many institutions would send their scientific research teams, with a rough estimate of over two hundred physicists required, plus over five hundred computer engineers, materials engineers, optics engineers, and more. Including other staff mbers, the personnel involved in the project would easily exceed one thousand.
To ensure the living and working conditions of over a thousand top scholars and engineers, along with supplies, materials, and construction procurent, the project would directly involve at least five thousand people.
A group exceeding five thousand individuals was enough to form a small town.
Therefore, the site selection was quite complex: the location had to be sowhat distant from the capital for the best results but not too far for convenience.
Eventually, after a series of inspections, the project site was chosen to be in a scenic area two hundred kiloters south of the capital. Inside the scenic area, there was a small lake with mountains on three sides, offering a beautiful view and a pleasant environnt.
The Energy Space Research Project decided to carry out its work here, involving not just matter transmission but also another major project—
the study of the physical properties of the Z-wave coverage area.
This project had been under evaluation for a long ti.
Since it required the participation of many physicists and a significant investnt, coupled with issues of confidentiality, whether to open it up to international collaboration was still under discussion, and it had not been able to proceed.
Now that the site for the Energy Space Research Project had been chosen and construction was underway, it was also conceivable to conduct research on the physical properties of Z-waves there, and investnt in infrastructure was taken very seriously.
The various planning tasks were rapidly completed, and construction began quickly.
Beyond the necessary buildings and facilities, the core equipnt required for the main experintal site included various models of Z-wave Generators, large-scale anti-gravity devices, unidirectional Anti-Energy barrier equipnt, and a multitude of detection devices.
The latter were the most expensive and problematic because they involved particle detection.
All sorts of minute detection devices required top physicists to design them specifically and to handle targeted procurent and manufacturing.
Particle analysis demanded such high precision that almost all the equipnt was of laboratory standard, which naturally did not co cheap.
What was most frustrating was that the experints could lead to explosions; a single experint might damage many ticulously designed and manufactured devices.
Ruan Wenye felt heartache just thinking about it. Once he got involved in the work, he realized that money was being spent like water, and he was constantly bogged down in endless tasks. It was genuinely overwhelming. He complained to Zhao Yi, "You guys have it so much easier. Look at ; I’ve been running around so much this month that my legs are about to break."
Zhao Yi was reviewing docunts and didn’t even lift his head, "You could also choose not to do it. For instance, you could report to your superiors that you’re not feeling well and let soone else take over the work. I believe many people would be willing to take on the burden."
"——!!"
Ruan Wenye was almost spitting blood at that response. As the leader of the Z-wave Group and considered the core figure in mysterious research, he had to persevere even if he truly beca ill. Otherwise, a crowd of highly experienced individuals would scramble to take over his position.
It was naturally exhausting!
But the work had to be done, and giving up his position was out of the question.
After pondering for so ti, he spoke with resolve, "I do this for the advancent of science, for the country and the people. I must have the spirit to make sacrifices, not afraid of hardship or fatigue. Even if one day, my health truly fails, I will continue to persevere!"
"——!"
Zhao Yi finally looked up and gave Ruan Wenye a thumbs-up.
Now that’s commitnt!
No matter what he truly thought, saying such things out loud did have an inspiring effect. No wonder so many leaders—
Cough, cough!
In fact, Ruan Wenye had a point in complaining to Zhao Yi. In the initial stages, the Theoretical Group and the Z-wave Group worked together.
But things changed afterwards.
Since the Theoretical Group was only responsible for designing experints, after completing the designs, they were mostly involved in designing the detection devices. Then the Science Academy sent the Quantum Physics team, taking over much of the related work.
Thereafter, the Theoretical Group had a lighter load.
Zhao Yi’s work involved simply looking at reports and performing basic audits while Qiu Chengwen, Edward Witten, and even Zhang Qican went off to do research. They didn’t need to worry about the project at all.
anwhile, many international organizations were also in communication with dostic parties to discuss joining the research and developnt efforts. The process was straightforward: other institutions that wanted to participate in R&D just needed to contribute funds, beco involved, and be assigned tasks, with the benefit of sharing experintal data.
