Chapter 1431: Chapter 4: Countdown_2

In short, we can sneak in.

Dong. Dong.

Both of them were quite agile, successfully jumping through the cracks in the floor to reach the basent.

From the mont they jumped down, the sound of “doo doo doo” beca significantly clearer.

“See, I told you, it’s clearly not the sound of crying.”

The man laughed:

“Doo—doo doo doo—just as you said, it’s a kind of chanical alarm or fault sound. Since this is a research facility, it’s not surprising that so equipnt continues to work. At least…a machine can work for a hundred years, which is much more realistic than a person crying continuously for a hundred years.”

“The only thing I don’t understand is, this place is obviously in a complete power outage, with no external power supply. How was the power supply maintained for a hundred years?”

“Miniature Nuclear Battery.”

CC replied without hesitation:

“The equipnt in this research facility should use miniature nuclear batteries as a backup power source, or they could have been powered by these batteries from the beginning. Such batteries can provide energy for hundreds of years without any problem.”

Hmm?

The man turned around, blinking his eyes:

“What’s that?”

“Miniature Nuclear Battery.”

CC repeated:

“I don’t know exactly what it is either. This kind of thing is rare in Brooklyn, I only heard about it from the elders and adults, who said it’s an almost indefinitely powerful battery.”

“Such a great thing, huh.”

The man was sowhat surprised, but also curious:

“According to what you said, it’s rare in Brooklyn, but does that an it’s common elsewhere? What caused this?”

“Given the current level of technology, it’s already impossible to manufacture such high-tech products. So where do the miniature nuclear batteries in other places co from?”

“Dug out from underground.”

CC smiled slightly, her beautiful crescent eyes looking at the man:

“Just like you, they were dug out from underground.”

“But do you rember what I told you before? Brooklyn used to be the private land of a super-rich person, completely uninhabited. Since there were no residents at all, how could there be miniature nuclear batteries?”

“After all…these miniature nuclear batteries are mainly used in cars, ho appliances, and electronic products. They can only be found in places with a high population, which is why they’re rare in Brooklyn.”

Oh.

The man suddenly realized:

“I understand now, it’s because of this reason that the living conditions in Brooklyn are much more backward than other places, and the developnt level is much lower.”

“That’s right.”

CC looked around the area with a torch and replied:

“The outside world is vast. We don’t know exactly what it’s like, but it should be much more developed than Brooklyn.”

“With knowledge and energy and a leader, maybe Brooklyn could also develop. It’s a pity…we have nothing here and lead quite primitive lives.”

“Above Brooklyn, airplanes still occasionally fly over, circling constantly, not knowing what they’re looking for; presumably, those airplanes should co from technologically advanced places.”

“Airplanes?”

The man frowned:

“You an those flying vehicles in the sky? In this backward and dilapidated era, there are still airplanes? How is that possible?”

“That part is unclear.”

CC shrugged, turning back to look at the man:

“As I said before, the world is so big, who knows what it’s like in the distance, in the places beyond our view?”

“What if so cities survived the 2504 catastrophe? Maybe those airplanes are relics of the old era, surviving simply because of their quality.”

“Of course, it can’t be ruled out that there might be a perfectly intact city far away that can still manufacture airplanes, but…such matters are beyond our concern, VV. How they live has nothing to do with us.”

“That’s true.”

The man agreed with CC’s words, pushing open the decaying door in front of him, continuing to move deeper into the research facility.

The further they went, the louder the sound of “doo doo doo” beca, proving they were heading in the right direction.

“Speaking of which, what are those airplanes flying in the sky searching for exactly?”

The man remained curious:

“With airplanes flying over often, there must be a specific purpose, right?”

“That I do not know.”

CC still claid ignorance, shaking her head:

“I’ve heard from the village elders that those airplanes have been appearing since shortly after the great disaster of 2504; not long after the catastrophe, airplanes began circling over the Brooklyn area, taking a long ti to leave.”

“Since then, airplanes occasionally co and go, circling. They visit almost every year… No one knows where they co from, and no one knows what they’re looking for.”

“Okay.”

The man saw that CC was not clear on the matter, so he stopped asking.

He was just surprised at the uneven technological advancent in this era.

So regions are living primitive, even slave-like lives; other places, however, have airplanes and inexhaustible energy.

It’s hard to imagine such a stark contrast existing on the sa Earth.

Doo—doo doo doo—

Doo—doo doo doo—

The chanical sound grew closer and louder.

At this distance, it was becoming sowhat piercing to them.

Moving forward a bit more, there should be a machine room, and this piercing alarm sound was coming from inside it.

“At last, we found the source.”

The man pointed at a sealed door ahead.

Under the torchlight, that door was new as ever, emitting a faint silver glow, as if ti had never touched its surface.

With obvious resilience, materials like this were not easy to destroy.

But…
