Crownlands, Lunaris.
After the end of the tournants, things were slowly returning to normal. People from all over the kingdom began leaving the capital, rchants made massive profits and looked forward to their next profit margins.
As a semblance of normalcy returned, so people could feel so kind of storm brewing. Jess wasn’t the only one who felt that way. Many keen individuals began sensing the shift in the air.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t tell what exactly was bringing about such dreadful feelings. And the occasional thunderstorms didn’t help matters; people were getting worried.
Eventually, word got the crowns, and while only rumours, the king paid attention to them. And he more than anyone else, had a sense of what exactly was causing the anxiety in the people.
King Gray stood at the balcony attached to his office, dressed in his official red uniform, looking more like a military general than a king.
’The rebellious nobles have already returned to their domains.’ King Gray pondered. ’I have only been able to identify a few of them. But the true mastermind behind whatever they are planning still eludes .
’They’re being very careful with this plan of theirs.’ King Gray had no idea how they would rebel against the directive he put in place a little while ago. ’Whatever that person said, it should be coming true soon... hopefully.’
Rumble.
A loud rumble of thunder snapped him out of his thoughts. Dark clouds began gathering once again. It was becoming a pattern; sort of like so warning signal foreshadowing what was to co.
"Hm?" King Gray looked behind him, his attention caught by a knock on his door. "Co in."
Opening the door and entering was the King’s son, Osbourne. King Gray turned to give his son his full attention.
"Why the long face?" King Gray asked, noticing the gloomy air around his son. "Is there sothing bothering you?"
"Haa..." Osbourne sighed as he moved forward to take a seat. Alone with his father, he could forgo the stiff procedures. Father and son were that close.
"I’m having trouble sleeping" Osbourne replied.
"You too, huh." King Gray sat down as well, leaning into his chair. His gaze lingered on the ceiling of his office. "Sothing is amiss. Everyone can see it..."
"Don’t you find this concerning?" Osbourne sounded sceptical. "It’s strange how everyone can feel the silent tension in the air. I don’t know if it’s about the dungeon or the demons at the borders, but there is sothing amiss."
"I know son," The king nodded, glad his son didn’t know anything about the rebellious nobles. "Regard—"
BOOM....!!!
A sudden explosion in the distance caught their attention, prompting father and son to rush to the balcony.
Before they could even process what was happening, another explosion sounded in the distance, then another, and another...
"Shit." King Gray cursed. "This was what they were planning?" The king gritted his teeth.
"What’s happening?" Osbourne turned to his father. "Is there sothing you’re not telling ?"
"Not now, son." King Gray stepped away from the balcony, rushing to his desk to grab his communicator. "Go make sure your mother and sister are alright."
"Alright, father." Osbourne nodded, knowing his priorities. "Be careful..." He rushed out of the office.
"You too, son. You too." King Gray muttered and then focused on his duties.
......
"Ma’am!" A knight rushed inside his superior’s office. "We have a situation!"
"Yes, I can see that!" Captain Helena said, getting her uniform off its rack. "Go get the knights and guards deployed. We need to quell this madness before it spreads further."
"Yes, ma’am!" The knight bowed slightly and rushed out of the office.
The captain got her communicator, trying to get a hold of the other captains across the many districts of the capital.
"Everyone, co in." She called into her artefact. "Are you experiencing the sa situation as I am?" She rushed out of her office, quickly arriving before her prepared horse.
[Affirmative.] A voice confird. [Any idea what’s happening?]
"We don’t have ti to play guessing gas right now." Helena exclaid. "The people’s safety first."
Her intention was to call for support, but since they also had their own situation to handle, she had to make do. And this had to happen when most of their n were off to handle the dungeon situation or the borders.
The captain rode along with her knights as they rushed to the explosion sights. So would divert to other layouts of the city while she and the rest rod towards the direction the explosion was going.
’Fucking hell!’ Helena burned with frustration. ’Just what the hell is happening?!’ Just like most people, she felt the tension in the city. She just didn’t imagine it would be sothing like this.
"Hiyah!" The captain pushed her horse to go faster, the fury within her burning and crying for soone’s blood.
As the captain continued to ride, she caught sothing in the corner of her eye, prompting her to turn her horse around.
"There!" She yelled, attempting to take the sharp turn. Unfortunately for her, her horse couldn’t make, the montum pushing the creature into the building.
"Captain!" Her n yelled.
However, the woman leapt off her horse, landing on the ground. Before her knights could dismount their horses to get to her, she bolted away.
"I’m fine!" Her voice echoed through the screaming crowd and explosions. "Help the people!"
The captain had noticed a few suspicious figures mixed in with the crowd and fleeing one of the explosion sights. The mont one of them noticed they were made, they redoubled their efforts to escape.
"Tsk! You better not be a part of this." Captain Helena said through gritted teeth.
With agile and skilful movents, she climbed one of the buildings, jumping off one window to the next. She landed on the roof, her gaze roaming the area.
"Stop!" She yelled, spotting three figures wearing cloaks splitting up, each taking a different route.
The cloaked figures all looked the sa to her. Left with little choice, she picked the closest one to her left and bolted after them.
The captain’s aura flared, channelling mana through her body as she cast a speed spell that instantly increased her speed.
"Got you!" The captain bellowed, the tip of her sword just right behind the cloaked figure she just got close to.
Unfortunately....
