Verya P.O.V.

He is not normal. I knew that from the start, Ascended humans just don’t exist any more. But the longer I look at him the more I can see the reason why they once did. He is barely level fifty six, or at least that’s what he was when I first t him, I’m not sure if he’s leveled up since then the early levels took a lot less Experience but he’s already fighting creatures I would run from.

“Yeah, this one isn’t going well.” Ajax shouted as he turned and ran from the devourer snake. “I say we better leave, and quickly.”

I wasted no ti following along with his plan as we both fled from the level one hundred and ten Awakened creature. Devourer snakes were not sentient creatures but their progression thod made them kill on sight for pretty much and Ascended race. They gained Stats by devouring diverse creatures. More than that their behaviour didn’t improve once they gained sentience, at least not for a long ti. There might be a few old Ascended devourer snakes that have civilized themselves but it takes too long and too much death before that happens.

“That snake was a lot stronger than I gave it credit for, it was only level one hundred and ten.” Ajax huffed as we both raced away from the giant reptile. “It also had nothing to do with Fire, why does it want the everburning tree?”

“It doesn’t want the tree.” I can’t help the irritation building at his cluelessness, all that power and yet he knows so little. “It uses it as a hunting ground. That right there is a devourer snake, one close to evolving by the looks of it, the everburning tree acting as bait must be why it managed to survive for so long.”

“What does the tree have to do with its survival?” Ajax asked.

“Devourer snakes do just as the na implies they devour, everything they co across.” I explain. “ Ascended races kill everyone they find, the only ones we don’t kill are the ones that have already evolved to beco Ascended, with sapience we try and get them to stop eating everything but if they refuse they die. They gain Stats by devouring any living animal that is close or higher than them in level. The Stats they gained and the amount depended on the creature and their strength.”

“Damn, I really wanted that tree.” Ajax lants already seeming to have forgotten about the large puncture marks on his left arm where I can see the poison spreading.

This was the fourth treasure we had co across. The first was a Shadow lily and Ajax had no issues finding and killing the level on hundred and twenty raven that guarded it. It was nothing special, just a regular raven with a strong Shadow affinity that found the right treasure early in life and most likely grew alongside it

Despite that, the bird would have been able to kill , not in a straight up fight but I knew I wouldn’t have been able to sense it and break its stealth spell if I had tried to collect the Shadow lily. With an ambush it would have killed

outright or done enough damage to be able to finish

off afterwards.

The second treasure we found was much more valuable, a Storm rock. For a rock to be imbued with not only Wind, Lightning but also Water Mana made a very rare find. Its actual size was barely larger than Ajax’s fist but it was guarded by a level one hundred and sixty wolf alpha. Ajax had smartly chosen not to challenge the wolf and I made a note of its location, I could sell the information, Storm rocks were rare enough just the location of one would be valuable back in the village.

The third treasure was a Decay mushroom. I’m not sure he even wanted that guessing from the disgusted look he was giving it after he killed the giant slug defending it but that wasn’t much of a challenge considering it was only level one hundred.

The author's content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

This brings us to the fire tree and the devourer snake guarding it. I definitely need to report its presence, as any of the other young people heading towards this dungeon could encounter it and end up getting killed.

“I have to say I think I’m starting to feel so extra power coming through my spells.” Ajax said joyfully as he twirled his wrist, the motion looking off to

as his thumb should have been pulled in closer while his pinky spread out more. I could feel the spell channel as a strong backdraft pushed us forward at a faster rate, though I did have to adjust my flight. “Oh sorry, forgot you used wings to fly and that Wind could ss with you.”

I waved away his apology. I was more concerned with the progress he was making towards [Spell Direction]. I knew he didn’t have the Skill yet, he had only seen

use a few movents and was trying to copy them but none of them had been correct yet so there was no way he had gained the Skill but I was starting to feel the extra power behind spells. It wouldn’t be long before he gained it.

“Are you sure you don’t want to help

gain it?” he asked again.

“As I told you before, there is nothing I know of you would be willing to trade that would make it worth it for

and nothing I don’t know of that you have offered is enough either.” I answer for the fifth ti.

This is the kind of ignorance that gets to , the kind I can’t even tell him about since it would make him even more cautious of any interaction with other sidhe, which would be seen as a betrayal. How do I tell him that helping him outside of the agreents we already have could make other certain Ascended races want to kill

if they found out I helped an Ascended human. The escort to the dungeon can be explained away as sealing knowledge I found dangerous to the sidhe but anything more isn’t.

“Maybe the elental hawk will know more and he’ll be willing to help, you said they liked humans, enough to be a danger to you to be seen with .” Ajax pondered, correctly too. If he t the elental hawk it would certainly help him with the Skill.

I just hope this won’t cause a confrontation between the elental hawk and Elduin’s parents. It's the one way this turns out really bad for .

Aurexion P.O.V.

“Hopefully your friend knows sothing.” I growl at my aunt.

“You best improve your behavior Aurexion.” She remains calm yet the light tap from her tail almost sends

crashing into the ground. “ZorKrunSvarBrunVorShry is not as patient as I am nor as understanding about your condition.”

I knew that but knowing sothing and acting on it was hard. It was actually probably a good thing that she ca to get

for this trip when she did. Otherwise things could really have gotten a lot worse if I had remained sleeping for much longer.

She suddenly changes direction and banks to the left before landing in a small clearing. “ZorKrunSvarBrunVorShry, it's been so long since I last saw you.” She greets our host before the massive hydra removes its [Camouflage] Skill.

“Khalysstra now this is a surprise.” One of the heads greets her.

“It’s been so long since we last saw you.” Another continues.

“And you brought your family with you, is that your newborn? I heard you had an egg.” A third head cos in.

“What do you want?” The forth head clearly has a personality that isn’t glad we are here.

While all the personalities of the heads of a hydra are different they share the sa information. Since it doesn’t seem like they hydra doesn’t like my aunt it's clearly sothing else that is bothering them about our presence here.

“Yes this is my son.” She said as she coiled her tail protectively around my cousin. “As for my presence here I ca to ask if you knew anything about a human that would have recently left their territory, he would have probably gone through your own child's territory.”

“You dragons really do know everything.” one head nodded as if it was confirming a theory.

“Still to send you after one so young and weak.” Another head continued.

“I didn’t know you had sothing to settle with the humans.” the third head was fishing for information.

This was tricky for my aunt. While she was extrely strong she couldn’t openly admit to the reason why she was interested in the human, doing so would reveal that she had trespassed in human lands and ddled there when she wasn’t allowed.

“I have a personal interest.” She said, “ I was alive when humans still had Ascended running around so I am interested in this resurgence in their presence.”

That was so inventing truthtelling she could only get away with because of her Skills. Still this conversation was starting to drag on and I was getting restless.

“He was headed towards sidhe lands when I caught up with him.” the hydra said, its tone a clear dismissal.

“Thank you.” She said and with that were were off again. “He’s heading for the dungeons.”

“I thought you said you were friends?” I question the hydra’s change in attitude.

“He figured I was hiding sothing.” She admitted. “I’ll owe ZorKrunSvarBrunVorShry for answering my question and not pushing for more. I hope you’ll appreciate this later.”
