Chapter 585
Ajax woke up refreshed after a long sleep, before exiting the dungeon however he did have one last thing he wanted to try out now that he upgraded his [Mana Syphon] with refuel. Approaching one of the arches for the next floor Ajax tried to drain it to see if he could refill his own Mana pool with those Mana types.
Sadly while Ajax was able to get a bit of a better feel for the Mana types present he found he couldn’t actually pull any of the Mana from the arch into his own pool. He did had a much easier ti refilling his own Mana from the ambient Mana present on the floor, more than that however Ajax found that he could use [ditation] to help increase his Mana recovering to the point that in a Mana rich environnt like this Ajax was certain he could refill his Mana in about one hour.
Exiting the dungeon Ajax was ready for a fight, just because everything had been peaceful when he entered didn’t an it would all be the sa now that he was exiting. The clearing around the arch looked exactly the sa as it did when he entered the dungeon but despite that Ajax couldn’t help but feel that sothing was different, and sothing was wrong. [Danger Sense] and [Sense of Dread] were both silent but Ajax still took a careful few steps forward as he pulled out his shield and axe while using [Mana Syphon] to drain everything in the surroundings.
“You’re quite perspective,” A loud voice spoke from right besides Ajax, though nothing had changed in the surroundings Ajax could feel that [Mana Syphon] had actually latched on to sothing and was actively draining a spell, for the first ti however he couldn’t even tell where that spell was. “What gave
away?”
“I don’t know” Ajax answered honestly while also stopping his [Mana Syphon] if whatever it was he was dealing with could maintain its perfect stealth despite Ajax trying to disrupt and drain it with [Mana Syphon] he didn’t want to piss it off. “Sothing just felt off and last ti that happened when I ca out of a dungeon I was ambushed.”
“Hmm, well I’m not here to ambush you.” the voice spoke again before continuing its sentence from a completely different point. “But I can see why you would see it that way.” the each sentence ca from a different direction, yet Ajax couldn’t feel any Mana directing the sound. “Truth is I was just curious. An Ascended human after all this ti and not only that but they beat my offspring at a ga.” “More than that they didn’t co to steal like the others.”
Ajax now had a clue as to what he was dealing with but he still couldn;t help but be surprised when the massive hydra dropped the spell concealing its form. Its body was twice as large as HelSotHein’s but more than that this hydra had ten heads and all of them were hovering around Ajax taking a good look at him. Ajax felt two different inspections Skill break through [Enigma] getting a good look at everything but his Skills.
“You are an interesting young human.” one of the heads said. “But there are so who wouldn’t want to see an Ascended human.” another said as the heads started to withdraw as the hydra turned and started to walk away. “Be careful out there Ajax Hearthbound, I do hope we will et again if you get the chance to grow.”
The hydra’s attitude threw Ajax through a loop. It had followed him, waited until he exited the dungeon, spoke a few sentences and now it was walking away. More than that Ajax could feel it call on so Mana but once the spell activated all of Ajax’s senses completely lost track of it, the only clue he had was that it had called on Shadow Mana.
Was this the reason Ajax had felt he was being watched as he made his way towards this dungeon? That didn’t really make any sense to him since it was clear the hydra had no issue approaching him, more than that its attention felt different than the feeling he had before. Was this all it had co here for? Just how strong was it? One thing was clear: this was the true power of the Ascended races, Ajax hadn’t even been able to feel its Aura yet it was clear that it was far out of his league.

All of those thoughts were swarming through Ajax’s mind yet he forced himself to push them all to the side. He had sothing else to focus on for right now, [Mana Syphon] had managed to gather him a portion of Shadow Mana that felt different from the Shadow Mana he normally called upon, not only that but Ajax had gotten a small glimpse at how that stealth spell started as it covered the body of the hydra and it was clear it was using the sa chaleon type skill Ajax wanted to create with his Shadow Mana and [Mana Skin].
This ti his spell worked, Ajax could see his hand disappear as the Shadow Mana enveloped [Mana Skin] and turned his arm perfectly transparent from the elbow down. The effect didn’t last for more than a couple of seconds before the Mana he gathered thanks to Refuel ran out and he was unable to generate anymore. The feeling of using the Mana however gave Ajax a big clue as to how he could go about generating the Mana in the future, [Residue Recognition] pulled its weight in a big way by grasping to the small traces of Light Mana that mixed with the Shadow.
‘How did it do that?’ The question left Ajax staring blankly in the direction the hydra had walked off in. How did it get Shadow and Light Mana to work together? In theory it was the perfect answer for getting the chaleon effect he wanted, Shadow Mana to conceal everything and a touch of Light Mana to cover up the absence. But getting two opposite Mana types to work together was sothing Ajax hadn’t even considered.
Even with all this on his mind Ajax started moving once more in the direction of the next dungeon. Now that he had run out of the Shadow Mana he had picked up from the hydra Ajax focused more on its parting words, they were a clear warning that he would be targeted by so out here, more than that word of his presence was clearly starting to spread. The hydra had clearly learned from HelSotHein but he was under no illusion that so of the other sentient races he had passed by on his way to the dungeon would go running to try using his presence as a way to gain favor with sothing or soone stronger than him.
Ajax spent the next few days trying to find a way to mix Shadow and Light Mana. So far the attempt had proven to be nothing more than a waste of Mana as he couldn’t even get the first step right but thanks to Refuel Ajax was recovering his Mana a lot quicker and he was at least making so marked progress with his Mana control.
After his second day with no progress when it ca to Shadow and Light Mana Ajax decided to take a break from that for his third day and not force it. Instead he moved back to his [Telekinesis] training. While he hadn’t gotten better at limiting his power when it ca to dealing with other objects he had started to get a lot better when it ca to using [Telekinesis] on himself. His biggest breakthrough being that he managed to give himself a foothold midair by pushing telekinesis against the sole of his foot while kicking off the air with the leg.
“Damn it.” Ajax cursed as he picked himself up off the ground. While it was well within his power and skill to make a foothold midair for himself he had a lot of work to do when working with the timing.
One of the downsides of using [Telekinesis] so precisely was that he had to drop any other spell he was casting to focus on it, the other was he not only had to get the timing just right as pushing before he kicked off or after would knock him off balance but he also had to get his strength just right as well. Too little power would an his kick would break through the spell and do nothing and too much would just spin him midair instead of launch him.
As he was getting up Ajax from his third fail in a row Ajax suddenly felt it again. That sa presence watching him. He was able to get a bit of a better idea of what it was, [Enigma] had grown by three levels following the encounter with the hydra, Ajax wasn’t sure how to feel about that since he liked the growth he saw in his Skill but the idea that they hydra’s inspection Skill was so much better even losing to it gave three levels was a little disheartening.
With the extra levels in [Enigma] Ajax was now sure it wasn’t actually an inspection Skill that was used on him but more of a tracking one that worked based off an inspection Skill to find sothing or soone you’ve seen before. This was why [Enigma] was not only able to detect it but also block it this ti, though it still wasn’t able to give Ajax any clue as to where the caster was or who it was that was using it.
Knowing that he was being tracked however made Ajax stop his training and focus on using Shadow Mana in a way he knew worked as he shadow traveled for the next two days as much as he could with a few breaks to recover his Mana.
