Chapter 798: 784 Catastrophic Final Battle (3)
Major Kang Xiong of the Iridium Star straightened his United Empire Army cap. Now transferred from the Iridium Star Army into the United Empire Army, Kang Xiong was starting to get used to it. The Iridium Star Army also had many non-Iridium Star ethnicities, but with a shared culture, communication and understanding were seamless. This wasn’t the case with the United Empire Army, where 1,917 civilizations had joined the United Empire, a number representing nearly a third of all enurated civilizations in the universe.
Within each civilization, there wasn’t necessarily a single species. The United Empire’s charter specified that any intelligent species, as defined by possessing a soul and basic intelligence, held equal status in terms of personhood, without legal distinction in superiority or inferiority. All these species were to partake in the United Empire Army, and this was, in fact, an obligation. Many species not skilled in combat could partake in relatively administrative and logistical roles due to their special status, with so nurical exemptions, but military service was inescapable.
This resulted in nearly ten thousand different intelligent life forms in the Galaxy needing to participate in the United Empire Army. At this juncture, things were still manageable, as only over five hundred species served in the Universe Army due to procedural and military formation issues. Among these nearly ten thousand species, about fifty-six percent were Primates, relatively easy to incorporate. So species, seven or eight ters tall, or even tens of ters, were practically impossible to fit into warships.
The crew mbers currently serving all ca from species similar in stature to the Primates, eliminating the need for constructing exceptionally large warships for those eight or nine ters tall.
Kang Xiong, a rather patient individual, was neither angered nor frustrated by the slower acceptance rate from other newly enlisted troops in the United Empire Army. Even with the United Empire on the brink of a major war, he remained at ease, clearly understanding that the current symbolic significance of the United Empire Army was greater.
“Major, are we taking the initiative this ti, to deal with the Swarm Catastrophe?” his subordinate, Sergeant Lu Ping, asked with so excitent.
Lu Ping was also from the Primate Clan, with genetic differences less than 2% from Earth humans. Hailing from a sowhat powerful mid-level civilization, his civilization had already lost three planets to the Swarm invasion before joining the United Empire quickly, and Bai Zhongqi sent Star Whales to get through the most perilous stage. Thus, his civilization was very proactive in responding to the Swarm Catastrophe, dissolving their original military organization with full cooperation, integrating their troops into the United Empire Army.
Kang Xiong t the young sergeant’s question with a slight smile. In reality, attacking the core of the Swarm was still a secret, and the soldiers rely thought they were going to attack the Swarm, unaware that they would face a global war.
“Do what you should do, and we will win,” Kang Xiong said simply.
Lu Ping still longed, saying, “I really hope to kill a few Insectoids with my own hands; they’ve ravaged our civilization beyond recognition. If it weren’t for the quick arrival of the Star Whales from the United Empire Army, my ho planet would have been destroyed too.”
Earth Pilot Savannah was checking her equipnt when she overheard the two talking. The aloof woman spoke, “Even mature Infantry Insectoids can deal with so junior Star Warriors. Insectoids are very dangerous enemies, and you as crewn, won’t face real Insectoids.”
Lu Ping, with a look of admiration, saluted Savannah, saying, “Lieutenant, you are the best chanic in our flight wing. I heard you shot down over a hundred Galactic Empire warplanes before; you’re sure to shine against the Insectoids.”
Savannah made no comnt, pressing a button on her gear. The armor on her hand automatically locked, fitting perfectly with her skin. She clenched her fist, feeling the comfort and ease, ensuring there was no issue.
“In such battles, the role of each person is tiny yet crucial. Of course, I will kill a few more Insectoids,” Savannah said softly.
Kang Xiong had a certain affection for his subordinate, considering it fate that they were both transferred into the United Empire Army together. Thinking about Savannah flying warplanes and leading a large contingent of unmanned warplanes into combat, Kang Xiong felt so concern, saying, “No need to risk everything; we have countless unmanned warplanes. Your role as a pilot is to control the impact of the unmanned warplane strike force.”
Savannah looked at Kang Xiong, feeling his concern. She knew her superior had unprofessionally personal feelings for her but just nodded, indicating she would follow his advice.
Lu Ping sensed from their interaction sothing he did not know, realizing the scale of the combat their carrier was about to engage might be so large that his usually composed superior was advising their best pilot to preserve herself.
Lu Ping dared not ask more questions and imdiately backed off. Yet, his heart was ablaze with hope, as entering the larger stage of the United Empire Army was an opportunity he longed for. Participating in a major war would evidently be more beneficial for his future. He hoped to one day beco an officer, or even command a warship.
Kang Xiong, anwhile, had a deeper understanding of the war.
He said to Savannah, “This will be a battle unlike any we’ve experienced, larger and even more brutal than the previous Battle of the Orion Arm.”
Savannah, as an officer, had sufficient clearance to know about the battle. She said, “In terms of troop deploynt, the Chancellor is still concerned about us being too heavily impacted and hasn’t gone all out. The Iridium Star Army only dispatched 12 strategic fleet groups, whereas the United Empire Army assembled and dispatched 20 strategic fleet groups.”
Kang Xiong sighed, “Currently, only 20 strategic fleet groups of the Iridium Star Army are fully equipped and ready for battle. Others have been split into new combat units, mostly shells without combat power. Twelve Knights will lead the 12 strategic fleet groups, and these 12 strategic fleet groups of the Iridium Star Army will each lead 10 strategic fleet groups of the Guards, totaling 132 strategic fleet groups. On the United Empire Army’s side, there are 20, and though the Blade Legion is not explicitly listed, rumors say the Chancellor ard 200 strategic fleet groups, totaling over two million warships—exceeding the combined scale of the two armies in the previous Battle of the Orion Arm. The entire Privy Council and Joint Defense Departnt are working non-stop to coordinate such a large-scale war. Essentially, we’ve laid out everything we can muster on the table.”
