For centuries, the people of Yimoduoya suffered under the tyranny of the dragons. Naturally, there were those who rose up in rebellion, known as the dragon slayers.
Initially, the dragon slayers were just ordinary warriors of their territories. But later, so dragon slayers discovered ancient weapons, believed to be from earlier civilizations in the ruins, capable of injuring giant dragons. So even gained imnse power. With these two factors combined, they began to resist the evil dragons and hoped to save mankind.
Still, their strength was not enough. However, in that last Era of the Dragon, the vast majority of the dragon slayers perished in battle, with only a few legendary dragon slayers surviving and retreating to hide in corners of the world.
Zang Murenqing mistook Bai Zhongqi for one of the legendary dragon slayers living in seclusion in the Great Snow Mountain, Bai Changxi, who beca legendary sixty years ago.
Zang Murenqing sat at a rough square table, drinking barley wine, and with a touch of annoyance about history, he said to Bai Zhongqi, "This ti, the dragon horde has sent ssengers to each territory, proposing that as long as each territory offers up seventy percent of its population, then their lands will not be attacked by the dragons. Moreover, they said the tributes' amounts are determined by the population but are not restricted from being from their own lands. Therefore, so lords who deem themselves as caring for their people have already started to invade other territories to capture citizens of other lands to offer as tributes to the dragon horde in exchange for peace."
Ze Pei, who had always listened to Zang Murenqing pour out his grievances, then said sarcastically, "The dragon horde isn't lacking in wise creatures. In the last Era of the Dragon, the dragon slayers killed thousands of giant dragons, which really terrified them. Although the dragon slayers were almost annihilated in the end, who knows how many ruins there are on our planet, and how many ancient dragon-slaying weapons still exist? If, over these sixty years, a new batch of dragon slayers has arisen, perhaps even surpassing the old ones under their training, the dragons might even be defeated. By devising such a plan to have us humans fight amongst ourselves, they ultimately reap the benefits, which is truly sinister."
Bai Zhongqi looked at the two young n and also weighed his thoughts. Both young n were outstanding Yimoduoyans; Zang Murenqing was skilled and not foolish, while Ze Pei, though often complaining, also had a compassionate heart and a clear mind.
The waiter nearby, hearing them discuss the matters of the Era of the Dragon, made a cooling remark, "Gentlen, these affairs of the Era of the Dragon are no trivial matter; every era takes the lives of millions, yet they all survived. This Era of the Dragon is a punishnt from heaven because people have defied the divine will, using the dragon's maw to remove those who are not devout."
A rchant at another table sighed, "Tis are hard indeed. If the dragons were so easy to deal with, there wouldn't be so many Eras of the Dragon. Nonetheless, there is one good thing about this era; the dragons aren't devouring people indiscriminately anymore. I have also made plans to invest so money by going to a lord to seek refuge and buy a life for myself and my family. The lord will grab other prisoners of war and throw them to the dragons as tribute, allowing my family to survive, which is much better than before."
Zang Murenqing didn't rebuke them, but his look towards these people carried a mix of pity and anger at their lack of resistance.
With so uncertainty, he asked Bai Zhongqi, "Sir, the wise couple has co out with us brothers, but after all, you have not said what you plan to do about this Era of the Dragon."
Bai Zhongqi said indifferently, "Slay the dragon."
Bai Zhongqi's purpose was naturally not to save the people of Yimoduoya. This planet, still in its classical era, even without dragons, had a high mortality rate. He had beco increasingly aware that excess kindness and compassion could sotis beco his weaknesses. While not utterly indifferent, Bai Zhongqi had beco more cautious, and his benevolence had likewise beco restrained.
Naturally, slaying the dragon would also have obvious direct benefits for him and Zero. He might not confront the dragon horde head-on, but killing a few isolated dragons to obtain their DNA was indeed the right solution.
Zang Murenqing clapped his hands excitedly, saying, "That would be exceedingly good!"
At this mont, the young man hesitated, and Bai Zhongqi noticed it and asked him, "Just say what you want to say."
Filled with expectation, Zang Murenqing looked at Bai Zhongqi and said, "My Lord, my brother and I left ho to embark on the path to find the dragon slayer. But does this 'dragon slayer' look eighty to you? Hahahaha!"
That's how it was in Lodanba Town, where people, whether acquainted or not, liked to strike up conversations, as you never know when you'll make a friend or gain so useful information.
Hearing these n slander Bai Zhongqi, Zang Murenqing angrily slamd the table and stood up: "How dare you, you pack of good-for-nothing drunkards who are rely feed for others, mock a warrior fighting against the Evil Dragon for us all?"
The elder rchant, shaking his head and stroking his beard, sighed and said, "Young man, listen to those who have been around longer, don't be fooled."
Ze Pei, his face red with anger, added, "You haven't seen the Lord's divine power; Zang Murenqing and I saw with our own eyes the Lord floating in the air, flying over several mountains to reach us."
With these words, another round of laughter erupted, and a bearded swordsman sneered, "Probably you, young man, got dizzy from hunger in the mountains and mistaken soone walking as flying over."
Zang Murenqing obviously had a temper, as he had beaten soone up just ten minutes earlier. Now, with a swish, he drew the sword from his waist. Glaring, he said, "Stop talking nonsense. If you disrespect the Lord again, beware of my sword."
Although the swordsn knew they were no match for him, they responded with a mocking tone, "If you can't win the argunt, you resort to fighting? If you weren't also doubtful yourself, why would you be so rash?"
These words made Zang Murenqing pause, as he himself was unsure whether the two n who had erged from the Great Snow Mountain were truly dragon slayers.
As everyone was laughing, suddenly a commotion arose from outside.
"The dragon is coming!"
