The Market Ghost passive was subtle, but potent.

Kairos sat cross-legged on the floor of his private chamber in the Jade Vulture, the system fragnt resting on a magnetic pedestal in front of him. Nira dimd the lights, her projection gently flickering as she ran interference protocols to mask his neural link from detection.

[Market Ghost activated. Scanning trade trails...][Focus Target: Ancient Weapon - "The Thorn of Azaek"]

He didn’t pick it at random. A passing ntion from a drunken auctioneer after the Black Market event had caught his interest.

"The Thorn? That was last sold in a dead sector. People say it ended a system war by whispering death into minds. Cursed thing."

Anything that could manipulate minds and be sold on the open market... was valuable beyond reason.

Kairos leaned deeper into the interface. Light pulsed at his temples. The system wove together fragnted ledgers, intercepted manifests, and ghost records that shouldn’t even exist anymore.

And then he saw it—a shattered trail:

Initial Auction: Outer Belt, Wyrmspire Station (12 years ago)

Seller: Unknown - pseudonym "NexusDust"

Buyer: Yithar Cartel

Last Tracked Trade: Transferred during ceasefire talks on Pentaros IV, then vanished.

That was two star sectors from here—and just close enough to warrant a detour.

Three Days Later – Orbit of Pentaros IV

The system was quiet now. Too quiet.

Pentaros IV had once been a war-ravaged planet teetering on annihilation. Now, it was a diplomatic corpse. Cities half-rebuilt, airspace thick with smugglers, diplomats, scavengers... and ghosts.

Kairos landed at Breachpoint Spire, a vertical city built into the remains of an orbital elevator shaft. There, amidst rusted steel and cracked banners, he tracked down an old war rchant nad Varraxin—a forr middleman for the cartel.

She greeted him with a smoking cybernetic jaw and chanical eye.

"You’ve got nerve asking about the Thorn."

Kairos offered a crate of Gleaming Fungal Wine, a rare Earth luxury he’d managed to get synthesized from stored DNA strains. Her eye blinked twice, greedily.

"Make it two crates, and I’ll tell you what you want."

"Done."

She leaned closer. "After Pentaros fell, the Thorn was handed to a rogue trader—na was Velo Krass. He took it toward the Veltrax Expanse. That’s ghost-space. No nav maps. No laws. Just pirates, warlords, and things that don’t stay dead."

Kairos nodded. "And that scares you?"

"It should scare you."

He left with coordinates and a lead—and a strange feeling in his chest. Sothing about that weapon... it pulled at him. The system fragnt pulsed when it was ntioned. Was it connected?

Later – Aboard the Jade Vulture

Kairos studied the fragnted route through the Veltrax Expanse. Nira popped up behind him.

"Logistical viability: 42%. Hostile environnt. Estimated danger: high."

Kairos smiled. "I like high returns."

Nira flickered. "I’ve also been reviewing Market Ghost’s other potential uses."

"Oh?"

"We can trace the real-ti flow of luxury minerals, soul-bonded relics, and royal-tier biotech enhancents across three sectors. The patterns are... irregular. Soone’s moving high-grade goods through unofficial channels."

Kairos raised a brow. "Illegal royal-grade trading?"

"Or a syndicate. Or a fallen noble house laundering tech. Or... a rogue sovereign."

Whatever it was, it scread opportunity.

Kairos stood up. "Plot the route to Veltrax. We’ll find the Thorn. And maybe... we start selling to warlords next."

"Diversifying into black-grade armant trade?"

"Exactly."
