Chapter 145: Chapter 6 – Lenore
The erinyes had deep red eyes and long black hair. Her skin was pale and she had a pair of bird wings with black feathers. She was wearing an iron spiked outfit that could not be described as armor. It had a thick gorget, a breastplate that only covered her breasts, bracers, a thick belt holding a small black skirt and graves that reached her knees. The rest of her skin was fully exposed.
She looked at Matthew with pleading eyes while crawling on the floor.
"Please. I need help." She said.
Avariel drew her sword and took a step forward, but stopped when she realized Matthew and Ffyr weren’t moving.
The erinyes then moved to Avariel and pleaded again.
"They’re going to kill ."
Avariel looked at Matthew who just crossed his arms.
"Shouldn’t we help her?" The angel asked.
"She’s a general. But under whom?" Matthew pondered, looking down at her.
"I’m Lenore. I serve under Malphas. Please, they’re almost here." The demoness pleaded again.
"The builder or fortresses." Avariel said about Malphas.
"Is he still loyal to Aym?" Ffyr pondered out loud.
"More important. Are you?" Matthew questioned Lenore.
"I..." The erinyes stopped to think. An Angel, a demonic human and a fairy. A group like that. Were they loyal to Aym? Had they any allegiance to the ruler of Violentia? To whom should she plead her loyalty to survive?
"We don’t have a lot of ti." Avariel comnted, seeing imps in the distance.
"I don’t know." Lenore said, looking down. "Malpha just ordered
to take the plains south of here." She said, appearing frail.
Matthew laughed.
"You’re good. But your spells won’t work on ." He said while getting up.
Avariel looked confused at Matthew while Ffyr also laughed.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about." Lenore pleaded.
When she said that, Matthew took out Aym’s dagger from his Inventory.
"Cut the crap, Lenore. You think I can’t feel you trying to sway my emotions?" Matthew said in anger.
The erinyes tutted her tongue and got up from the floor. Her pleading face vanished, taking the contours of anger and frustration.
"What’s going on?" Avariel asked.
"She was using a spell to instigate our compassion." Ffyr explained. "But Matt’s Mind is too great for her to affect him."
"Not to ntion that you can’t instill compassion on soone if you have no idea what it is." Matthew added, bringing his blade to Lenore’s neck.
"The angel fell for it." The demoness pouted.
"Now. Why should we help you?" Matthew asked, pressing his blade on her neck, almost taking blood out of her.
"Maphal is loyal to Aym." Lenore said, looking at Matthew’s weapon.
"I’m not." Matthew interrupted her.
Lenore’s eyes opened wide. She made a mistake. She assud he was loyal to Aym since he was wielding the duke’s blade.
"Wait. I also am against his rule." She tried to defend herself.
"I’m not against him either." Matthew said, getting closer to her. "I owe him a debt of gratitude and that’s all."
Avariel understood now what his intentions were. He was playing with the demoness to throw her off and get accurate information. But it was taking too long.
Soon so imps found them and scread loudly.
Ffyr killed them swiftly with air blades before they could do anything else.
"They’ll be here shortly. Why shouldn’t I simply give you away to them?" Matthew threatened her.
Lenore then fell to her knees again.
"I’ll do anything. I’ll be your slave. I"ll pleasure you however you please. But don’t give
to them. Please." She kissed his feet while crying. "You know what will happen to ." She added while putting her head on the floor.
"She’s being honest now." Ffyr said, kneeling by the side of the erinyes and patted her head.
"Ok." Matthew said with a sigh and looked at Avariel. "Let’s go. Ffyr, keep an eye on her. Don’t let her do anything."
The angel and him took defensive positions while a group of imps and cambions approached them.
"We’ve co for the winged bitch." One of the cambions said.
"Are we really going to help her?" Avariel asked Matthew while raising her sword.
"Yeah. Let them do what they want with her will leave a bad taste in my mouth." Matthew confird.
"Good." The angel said taking flight and descending on top of an imp with a slash downwards with her sword.
Matthew soon followed her decapitating two imps with single strikes of each of his blades.
"Kill them!" The cambion scread.
Fireballs flew in their direction, but Avariel raised a wall of holy mana to stop them. She made sure no tree of the forest was hurt as well.
The imps posed no threat to Matthew. But the cambions could be dangerous. His Sharpen skill made his blade extrely sharp to the point of cutting through the armor they were wearing. He needed to kill them quickly and not let them surround him.
Avariel was masterful with her sword. She seed weightless while flapping her wings and moving from enemy to enemy burning them with holy flas that coated her sword.
The duo was too powerful for those demons. When they realised this, their leader shouted retreat orders.
Matthew and Avariel didn’t give chase and returned to where Ffyr was.
There they saw an unusual scene, Ffyr was sitting on top of Lenore who was flapping her wings desperately trying to get away from the fairy.
"How the fuck you are so heavy?!" The erinyes scread. "Get off of
you fat cow!"
"FAT?" Ffyr took that personally.
The fairy grabbed the demoness’ hair and pressed her face against the dirt on the ground.
"She tried to run away?" Matthew asked, getting closer and not stopping his familiar from humiliating the erinyes.
"Yes. She thought I was weak." Ffyr laughed.
"For a demon general, she’s quite frail." Avariel comnted upon seeing the fairy manhandling the demoness.
"Let
go!" Lenore stead when she could take her face out of the dirt.
"Weren’t you going to be my slave?" Matthew asked, kneeling in front of her.
Lenore’s heart sank. She was honest when crying and wanting to do anything possible to save herself from her pursuers. But she was not dumb to stay around and beco soone else’s slave instead.
"Wait. You’re serious about that?" Avariel interpelled him.
Matthew looked at the angel with a smile.
"Just a bit. She knows this place. Don’t you?" He asked Lenore.
"I... do." The demoness cogitated to lie, however knew she had no choice, but to tell the truth.
"We’re looking for a soul." Matthew said cleaning her face with care while Ffyr allowed her to stand up.
Lenore froze upon feeling his hands on her. Her eyes watered.
"Help us find this soul and you can leave."
"Wait. Really?" Lenore asked with a smile. "You won’t... You know..."
"Matt doesn’t do that." Ffyr protested.
"I won’t." Matthew said. "Help us find Avariel’s sister and we’ll keep you safe until then. After that, you can go."
"Sister? Angel souls don’t fall in the hells." The erinyes said.
"She gave up her wings." Avariel was succinct.
"And killed herself?" Lenore laughed loudly.
Ffyr pulled Lenore’s hair forcing her to look at her.
"Respect her." The fairy gnarled at the demoness.
"Ouch!" Lenore exclaid. "Sorry. Sorry!" She pleaded while trying to make Ffyr let her go.
"Can you help us?" Matthew asked, ignoring what was happening.
"I can! But it won’t be easy finding a single tree in a forest!" Lenore scread, still trying to make Ffyr stop.
"How can we find her then?" Avariel asked.
"We ask the harpies. I can talk with them for you. They won’t listen to you, but they’ll listen to ." Lenore said, holding still in a way that her hair wouldn’t pull against the fairy’s grip.
"Let her go Ffyr." Matthew asked. "Take us to the harpies." He ordered Lenore.
Lenore led the way deeper inside the forest. She realized by now that the trio was much more powerful than she thought at first. She knew she couldn’t escape them.
However, her eyes still dated around, either looking for an opportunity to run away, either seeking to find their pursuers.
Lenore led them to a huge fig tree where many nests made of feathers, bones, tree branches and fur rested on its black and leafless branches. The sky, the trees around them and the giant fig tree itself was filled with harpies who watched them closely as they approached.
"Is this?" Avariel asked Lenore.
"Syceus, the coward." Lenore confird.
"Who?" Matthew asked.
"Syceus. The Titan who fled Zeus during Gigantomachia. Gaia transford him into a fig tree to hide him from the fury of the Olympian gods." Avariel explained. "What is he doing in here?"
"Being punished." Lenore said, taking a piece of the black bark of the fig tree making it bleed. "Zeus found him and put him here between the others who threw their own bodies away." The erinyes’ voice was finalistic.
"And how do we find Nanael?" Matthew changed the subject.
"Celaeno!" Lenore called.
A dark winged woman with gold hair and charcoal black skin ca down flying from the top of Syceus.
"What do you want, Lenore?"
