Chapter 139: Season 1 Summary
Matthew was just a normal young man fresh out of high school. He had but one dream, to adventure in the dungeons and level up creating a perfect class build that he spent years studying to make.
His dreams are for naught, since once he awakens as an adventurer, after killing five goblins in a dungeon, he gains the unique skill called Gacha Leveling. This skill grants him random classes every ti he levels up with the plus side that he can gain any class regardless of his level.
In the sa dungeon, he t Vanessa, a part-ti adventurer that dived into dungeons only to relieve stress and make so extra cash now and then.
Vanessa quickly bonded with Matthew feeling a sense of responsibility for encouraging him to keep adventuring despite his unique skill being unheard of and potentially dangerous.
The very next day after his awakening, Matthew t Faralynn, a silver haired elf, and Erin, a red headed human, two students of the prestigious Laufgraan Adventurer School. He agreed to watch over them, after their professor, Orpheu, asked him, as they killed goblins to awaken themselves.
During this incursion, a dungeon fluctuation created a stampede of goblins due to two hobglins entering the dungeon to try kidnapping Faralynn, who was a noble in the elven planet Nuilynn.
Matthew fought to save the two girls and a third student being severely injured in the process.
Matthew’s family, his mother Martha, his father Robert and his sister Sarah, was against his adventuring career. Thus he called Vanessa to help him to a hospital after the event and to help him hide the fact he was hurt from them.
Vanessa brought him to her brother, the doctor Cid, who took care of him. She also allowed him to sleep in her room above the garage of the house of her old friend, Eric, and brother of her deceased husband, Edwin.
There Matthew befriended Eric and his daughter, Katia. He also learned that Edwin and Eric’s wife, Katrina, both died after a dungeon break leaving emotional scars in that family.
When Matthew went to visit Faralynn in the hospital after her injuries after the goblin stampede, he saw himself defending her and Erin from another kidnapper, Orson of the Horde. Orson was under orders from her Uncle, Farynn, to kidnap the elf so that he could marry her and consolidate his political power over her house, Laufgraan, in Nuilynn.
During their fight, a gate to one of the hells, Violentia, sucked the building into the other realm.
There they allied with Orson to fend off a horde of demons, imps and dretches, that ca to attack the people who were in the building sucked to hell. The battle was fierce, many people died and they lost in the end.
Faralynn and Matthew were kept alive, while Erin and Orson were unconscious. The demons tortured, killed and raped the other people in front of Matthew and Faralynn causing deep emotional wounds on both of them.
Soon, Faralynn’s father, Farzan, an extrely powerful elf who exiled himself on Earth to avoid political strife in his house back on their planet, ca to their rescue with a small squad of adventurers.
Scarred from what he saw in hell, Matthew pondered if he should continue adventuring. However, his sister had awakened naturally and was struggling with the idea of having mana in her. After the hell incident, Sarah decided she did want to be an adventurer to help all the people she saw suffering. She harmonized her original dream of being an Idol with her new wish to help those in need and aid to beco an Adventurer Idol.
Sarah then gave her brother emotional support to continue adventuring and press on.
At the sa ti, Eric’s guild, the Valhalla Riders, lost a mber due to negligence of the Howling Spear guild, the sa guild responsible for the death of his wife and Vanessa’s husband.
That made Vanessa want to dedicate herself to becoming a full ti adventurer and grow enough in power to bring down the Howling Spear guild.
She invited Matthew to form a party with her and two other friends, the siblings Paula and Michael, who were in the Valhalla Riders guild.
Their first adventure is inside a pocket dinsion called Blue Moon Gate, where they went to hunt the creatures that lived inside.
Upon fighting a moose-like monster, Matthew is flooded with demonic mana he absorbed in hell, which makes him twice as strong as normal, but also awakens his deepest negative feelings, like hate, bloodlust or lust.
Paula’s ex-boyfriend, Tom, was a powerful adventurer and beca an Impiomancer, a demon summoner. He also beca corrupted by demonic mana and beca violent towards Paula.
When Paula started to get seriously hurt, her brother, Michael, intervened and took her away from Tom. Tom then beca even more violent, kidnapped Paula and almost killed Michael, who was not an awakener at the ti.
Eric rescued Paula, killing Tom in the process.
Because of that, both Michael and Paula resented demonic mana and distrusted Matthew with it.
They then decide to leave the gate to purify Matthew from the demonic mana, but as soon as that decision was made, the gate closed and the blue moon, that was always in the sky of that pocket dinsion, beca red.
The complex inside the gate was overrun by a horde of red wolves led by werewolves of the color.
Matthew had to learn how to control his intrusive thoughts that the demonic mana was causing him while fending off an army of wild wolves.
Using the mana, he managed to fight in almost equal footing with a werewolf, but was severely hurt in the process, but was saved by Paula’s healing skills.
When all seed lost, Matthew decided to use a powerful skill he got from the tier 4 class Ranger, the highest tier of classes, called Animal Companion. A skill that evolved beasts and spirits into a higher and more powerful form of themselves.
He used it on the spirit Lumi, Paula’s snow owl familiar, turning it into an Ice Phoenix, an extrely powerful bird. Lumi saved them all, but at great cost.
To evolve Lumi to beco so powerful, Matthew used his own soul as fuel for the skill. He almost died, but the demonic mana inside of him kept him alive long enough for the mana of the wolves and werewolves to co to him, recreating his soul.
That made a part of his soul to be permanently infused with demonic mana. Matthew lost the sight on his left eye because of it.
Once again Matthew felt like quitting his adventuring career, feeling cursed by being involved in so many incidents. But with the newfound support of his mother, Matthew found the courage to keep going.
After that, for his actions in helping Faralynn both in hell and in the goblin dungeon, Matthew was rewarded by her father with a scholarship to the Laufgraan Adventuring School, which he was the dean of.
Studying there, Matthew learned many things he didn’t know about adventuring. With the guidance of very powerful teachers, he improved his fighting skills and his ability to manipulate mana.
He also befriended Faralynn and Erin’s schoolmates, Mia, Helen and Tina.
One day, when coming ho from school, a pair of adventurers tried to rob him. He fought back and, overwheld by the demonic mana, he killed one of them.
Not much ti later, Mia was kidnapped during a shopping trip with Matthew, Sarah, Erin and Faralynn. The kidnappers’ objective was to trade her for Faralynn and take her to her uncle in Nuilynn.
Matthew intervened and didn’t allow Faralynn to surrender herself. He went himself to face the kidnappers, killing one of them, but not before that one sexually abused Mia. After that, Mia beca enamoured with Matthew after he saved her and killed her abuser in front of her.
Matthew was then indicted for murder of both the kidnapper and the robber, but Vanessa, who used to be a lawyer, advocated for him and he eventually was found not guilty by a jury.
When Matthew went alone to a dungeon called Labyrinth of Enkidu with Vanessa, they were t with an anomaly. A powerful monster called Shedu attacked them and they killed it. However, that monster was not a mana simulacrum that was expected to be inside a dungeon. It was a real monster.
That made both of them be noticed by Claudio Antares, Director of Research for the Tower of Ryvylin guild, the guild that administered that dungeon and a powerful and influential guild in the country.
Claudio kept close tabs on them hoping they would help him uncover the secrets of the Labyrinth.
Helping Claudio investigate the Labyrinth, Matthew and his party found Ffyr, a fairy from the chaos realm and daughter of the Queen of the Fae Titania. Titania was considered a greater goddess. Ffyr agreed to make a pact with Matthew and beco his familiar.
Not long after, Sarah was caught in an invasion from creatures called Gnoles who escaped the gate that led to their pocket dinsion and flooded a suburban neighborhood where she was at a party.
Matthew rushed to help her with Vanessa, Eric, Paula and Michael.
There, Vanessa learned that the gate was being administered by her nesis, the Howling Spear guild. She and Eric then found evidence of the guild’s wrongdoings. That made Vanessa obsess over finding out more and build a case to bring them down, but at the cost of her own well being.
Upon learning about Vanessa’s plans, Claudio decided to help her in exchange for Matthew helping him research the Labyrinth. Claudio used his guild’s influence to prosecute the Howling Spear with the material Vanessa found against them, and Matthew kept diving in the dungeon searching for how it created real items to reward adventurers.
The Howling Spear’s vice leader, Yuki Takeda, was the first to suffer and be arrested by drug traffic. In rage, she attacked Vanessa and Matthew in Eric’s house, almost killing both of them.
They were only saved by the intervention of the Saintess, Monica, who was in town searching for her old friend professor Orpheu.
Orpheu disappeared after adventuring with Matthew, Faralynn, Erin and other Laufgraan students in a dungeon. Orpheu uncovered the location of a magical item he wanted to use to find one of long lost friends in that dungeon. Upon searching for that item, he disappeared.
After Yuki’s assassination attempt, Matthew, Ffyr, Faralynn and her bodyguard and close friend Faynn went in with Claudio again to research the Labyrinth of Enkidu. There they found an extrely powerful monster called Bashmu.
To defeat that monster, Faynn sacrificed herself, but Matthew managed to finish it off, gaining several levels in the process.
Not long before that incursion, Titania, Ffyr’s mother, offered him a wish in return for conquering the Labyrinth, therefore he decided to stay inside the Labyrinth alone, while Faralynn left with Faynn’s body. He was going to wish for Faynn’s life back.
While spending his days inside the Labyrinth, he found Matil, a nixie from the chaos realm, who he befriended.
The dungeon boss was very powerful, an image of an old warrior called Enkidu. Matthew almost died again, but managed to win with Matil’s help.
After conquering the Labyrinth, Titania took control of the dungeon, closing it and releasing all the chaos spirits that were imprisoned inside. She promised to reopen the dungeon and keep the item reward system, but now in her image.
Titania resurrected Faynn and healed Matthew’s wounds.
Matthew then rushed to Faralynn after leaving the dungeon and both of them declared their love for each other.
At the end, a huge gate to hell opened in the middle of the city and thousands of demons powered on Earth. The gate was opened by the Mayor who was the mother of the Howling Spear guild’s leader.
It was an act of desperation by the Mayor who saw the police closing in on her after Vanessa’s actions.
Matthew had to deal with his trauma when facing the demons again, but he was now so powerful that he realized that he had the power to face them.
Matthew, Vanessa, Faralynn and Faynn helped the army to fight the demons searching for a way to close the gate. Eventually they learned that the gate was being held open by a demon king called Beleth, who possessed the Howling Spear guild’s leader body to co to earth.
His ultimate goal was to sacrifice enough human souls so that he could co to Earth in his real body.
However, Beleth angered the ruler of Violentia, the demon duke called Aym. Aym offered Matthew the ans to close the gate if he helped him destroy Beleth.
Matthew ended up in hell once again and fought alongside Aym killing Beleth and closing the gate to Earth.
Matthew saw himself stranded in Violentia with only Ffyr at his side. His soul was now fully consud by the demonic mana that was in him and has now turned into a demon himself.
