It wasn’t fair. She was already smart and funny. How co she could be even more chilling than I?

I kept trying to get one over her, and she kept welcoming the challenge. Got my wins, got my losses...
It was fun.
But then she graduated.
The days started passing faster, and I could hardly keep up.
Still, we kept in contact. Maria was trying to get a job at a law firm but ended up with a gig as a journalist.

Thankfully, I had played with my Gift a few tis after the First Contact. It would only last a few minutes, but I could arm myself.
I killed the monsters that invaded, and before I’d exhaust my mana, I hid under the bed, praying for the nightmare to end.
I would never forget the relief I felt when Maria found .

After a while, we began hunting monsters together. And when we were allowed, we beca adventurers.
