In total, they earned 96 mind fragnts from Celine’s mind and those of her attendants’. So their attack wasn’t a total waste of ti.
In order to appease the feeling of frustration that they were feeling, Legion-3 said, "At least we got sothing out of this."
But Legion-7 wasn’t appeased. He said, "I would have preferred if we got a noble. Their divine abilities are very useful. Especially that rank 3 divine ability. If we support a noble with a lot of spiritual energy, they would be able to do wonders with that divine ability. Now so much potential has been lost."
Legion-1 also felt that it was a pity. He said, "We also need to enslave proud people in order to fulfill the advancent requirent of the pathway of slavery. If we had enslaved her, she would have helped us get closer to eting the advancent requirent."
Legion-2 said, "Who would have thought that the nobles would be this afraid? Fortunately, we didn’t send anyone from the gang to attack her."
They felt fortunate that they had been very eager to turn her into a slave, which was why they were the ones who attacked her instead of one of their slaves. Their determination not to let anything go wrong worked in their favor.
Then Legion-10 rembered another thing that they felt fortunate for, so he said, "Let us also be thankful that divine artifacts are expensive to use."
Every clone agreed with this because they had seen too many divine artifacts in a short ti. Especially the Aegis Shield divine artifact. Two of the three important people they had attacked had the Aegis Shield divine artifact.
Mirlo and Celine had the Aegis Shield divine artifact. They could use it to protect themselves, but it was very expensive for them to use. After all, it doesn’t belong to their pathway.
For an undying godclad with the Aegis Shield, they can maintain their Aegis Shield at all tis without consumption. The only consumption of spiritual energy will occur at the mont they set it up and during the period that the shield resists attack.
Those who forge the Aegis Shield into a divine artifact by using the corpse of an epic being don’t get this privilege. Every mont they use the divine artifact, spiritual energy will be drained from them to maintain the shield.
This continuous consumption of spiritual energy by the divine artifact is why Mirlo and Celine didn’t have the Aegis Shield in place to protect them constantly. They had to activate it after the attack.
Killing Mirlo and Celine would have been more difficult if they used the Aegis Shield without the maintenance cost. In the case of Celine, she was too weak, so the Aegis Shield wouldn’t have changed her situation even if she maintained it at all tis. But Mirlo would have been able to escape.
Mirlo was already strong. He was so strong that he could maintain the consumption of the divine artifact that he was using to protect his mind and three of them too.
His ability to maintain the three ntal defense divine artifacts is mainly because the three of them don’t use much spiritual energy. He could maintain their expenditure through his natural regeneration of spiritual energy and by occasionally drinking energy water.
But if Mirlo had a tortoise shell that blocked every type of attack and didn’t require a lot of spiritual energy to maintain, then he would have been able to escape or even retaliate against his killers.
Legion thought about this for a while before they shifted their attention to the divine artifacts that they looted from Mirlo, the Bright Coin gang, Henry, and the Cold Blade gang.
There were 18 divine artifacts in total. Most of them were from Mirlo.
Mirlo had 7 divine artifacts. 3 were from the pathway of the telepath, 3 from the pathway of the undying, and 1 from the pathway of killing.
All of the 8 divine artifacts are low-grade ones made from the bodies of epic beings. The most common one ca from the pathway of killing. Henry and the lieutenants of his gang used the Sever divine artifacts.
Only one of the divine artifacts interested Legion. It was the divine artifact of the pathway of nobles.
Unfortunately, Legion couldn’t use it because it reacted negatively to them. The divine artifact rejected their existence and spiritual energy so violently that it caused ntal backlash.
This situation is pretty common, as godclads can’t use the divine artifacts of any pathway. There could be rejection between pathways.
Sotis, the problem might not be with the pathway but with the divine artifact itself. That is, the particular divine artifact might hate soone because the pathway that that person possesses is the sa pathway that the killer of the corpse used to create the divine artifact possessed.
In that case, the divine Artifact might not work with Legion because the person who killed the epic being used to forge the divine artifact possessed one of the four pathways that they have.
But if they get another divine artifact from the noble pathway, it might work with them. This is a well-docunted situation.
There can be many reasons why a divine artifact doesn’t want to work with them. It could even be that the god that owns the pathway of the divine artifact doesn’t like them in particular or doesn’t like the pathway they are using.
It could be any reason, and it would take ti to sort out. They didn’t have that ti and resources, which was another reason they were looking forward to enslaving Celine.
They were disappointed that Celine had to die, but her family had an even more intense reaction to Celine’s death. Even her usually nonchalant father was very angry about it.
Three investigators were sent to the scene of her death. All three of them were godclads. They belonged to the pathway of knowledge, the pathway of the telepath, and the pathway of the fate weaver.
Celine died in the territory of the Golden Hamr gang, so they were investigated. But the investigation wasn’t limited to just the Golden Hamr gang. Every gang and noble involved in the ga was investigated.
The least suspicious party was the Golden Hamr gang. No one thought that they were responsible for the death of the noble supporting them.
