He said to the custodian, "Thank you."
Then he asked calmly, "Does this an I will surely beco a godclad?"
The custodian shook his head and said, "No. Talent is the most important thing needed to beco a godclad. If you don't have the talent required, no amount of auxiliary potion will help you succeed. But if you've t the requirent of talent, this potion will help reduce the danger of assimilation."
"Many tis, people beco godclads without the auxiliary potion. Their talent is more than enough to help them beco godclads on their own. So an auxiliary potion is important, but it is not as important as talent."
He asked in confusion, "What kind of talent do I need? Is it an innate ability?"
The custodian shook his head again. "Everyone has an innate ability. It might not awaken or not, but everyone has one."
"The talent I'm talking about is more tangible and more quantifiable. This talent is known as the number of souls."
"The number of souls," Legion repeated as if savoring the word.
The custodian glanced at him and continued. "Humans are made of the sa material. It is why we reach the sa limit of power when we prepare our existence for divine flesh. But the potential of each human is different."
"In theory, the maximum number of souls is 12. But most humans barely have more than one. To beco a godclad, you must have at least three souls. You need three souls for a path of ascension. If you have six souls, then you can take on two paths of ascension. But the number of people who can do this is very rare."
Legion said in understanding, "So four paths of ascension is the maximum that anyone can have."
The custodian nodded. "Indeed. But that's only in theory. I have never seen or heard soone with three paths."
Legion thought about it and rembered that he too had never seen or heard anyone with three paths. It wasn't that there was no one with more than six souls. There surely were people with seven and eight souls. But not nine.
A path needs three souls to withstand it, or there will be failure, and when there is failure, the existence will collapse, resulting in instant death.
Then there is the matter of assimilation. Even if the number of souls ets the requirents, success in assimilating divine flesh is not certain because divine flesh will resist it.
Assimilating divine flesh is a tug of war between the human and the divine flesh. Whoever wins will take all the power and freedom.
If the human wins, a godclad is created. If the divine flesh wins, a mutant is created. Those are the two outcos.
After the matter of assimilation, there is the more difficult obstacle of ascension. Each path is difficult to ascend. Talent is only required to have a chance of success at becoming a godclad, and becoming a godclad is just the beginning of the road.
The road is very difficult to transverse. One path is enough to get a human killed. Taking two paths can increase the difficulty of ascension by at least two tis and up to ten tis.
This difficulty will affect each pathway that the godclad is taking. So if soone wants to take two paths, they should prepare for an increase in difficulty of ascending each pathway by 10 tis for a cumulative increase in difficulty of 20 tis.
If soone decides to go beyond that and takes three paths together, the difficulty of ascending each pathway can increase by up to 100 tis for a cumulative difficulty of 300 tis each.
These three obstacles are why those who take three paths are rare to find. The talent is rare for three paths, the risk is higher for three paths, and the difficulty is too high for three paths.
Even if soone has the talent to take three paths, the smart thing to do is to settle for two paths. Only soone with his innate ability and talent that he gained from his future as Legion is capable of safely having four paths.
He was thinking about this, but he didn't say so to the custodian. Instead he asked the man, "Why are those on three paths rare?"
He sighed and said, "Because it is too dangerous. It is so dangerous that it is deadly. Even the god of justice only used two paths. Besides, one only needs one path to beco a god. Most gods only took one path to acquire their power. It is not worth it to take on that much danger to beco a god."
Then he shook his head and said, "It is not even a matter of if it is worth it or not. I think it is just impossible to use three paths."
Legion nodded in understanding and said, "I think I'll just settle for one path."
That made the custodian chuckle. He said, "Good idea. The path of killing is more than enough for you. It is so difficult on its own that it is more than enough to get you killed. It is also very powerful, so in terms of power, it is more than enough too."
Legion said, "I see. I think this was what the captain ant by this is both a good thing for and a bad thing for ."
The man nodded. "You can think of it that way. With the path of killing, adding another path to it ans certain death. It doesn't matter if you have the talent required for two paths. You will surely die if you increase the difficulty by even two tis."
"That's the bad part. The good part is that you won't need more than the path of killing if you can master it. If you can't master it, then even if you need more power, you won't be able to get it because the path of killing is already too much for you."
