"We want to hear the panda song!" Of course, that’s what they’d choose. With Hah’Er hugging Sun Qian’s leg, no one would even consider a second song.
"You guys are going to break my heart! It’s as if you think I don’t have any other good songs!" Sun Qian said, feigning sadness. Her playful words drew a roar of laughter from the crowd. Of course, that wasn’t what they ant—they just wanted to see Hah’Er dance on stage again.
"Morning dew on bamboo leaves, waking a panda from its dreams. It leaves its den and gazes at the mountain opposite, wondering what could be on the other side..." And so, the familiar song began again. This ti, many fans who rembered the lyrics sang along from the start, and it quickly swelled into a chorus of thousands. The sound carried out of the park and to the ears of pedestrians on the street, who turned to look toward the park, wondering to themselves who was singing such a moving song. It was truly sothing special.
Not far away, several high-level executives from various music companies stood in different spots, whispering to their subordinates. They could see that a singer with imnse potential was beginning her ascent. Whoever managed to sign her would undoubtedly gain a significant advantage in the competition to co.
Of course, so were hesitant. Sun Qian’s style was quite different from the mainstream music scene, so it was hard to tell if she could be a comrcial success. Furthermore, she didn’t seem like the type to compromise for the market, which made it difficult for them to reach a final decision right then and there.
Regardless, Sun Qian’s performance was an undeniable success. After she left the stage, Shen Yibin pulled out his phone, logged into Weibo, and imdiately saw photos people had posted from the show. He quickly reposted them with a comnt to show his support.
"Sakai, don’t be too jealous of us! You can co watch the show in person next ti there’s a chance." Nearby, Sylvie was talking loudly on the phone with Sakai Kaori. Sakai had been busy presiding over her shrine’s festival and couldn’t get away to see Sun Qian’s debut.
"It’s very convenient to travel from Japan to China, you know! And I’m much freer than you are, Sylvie. I’ll co to China to see Sun’s performances all the ti in the future. Next ti, it’ll be my turn to film it for you!" Sakai Kaori retorted from the other end of the line, not about to be outdone. On the phone screen, Egg could be seen lying lazily beside her. It looked like it had gotten much fatter since it left, its belly especially looking a size bigger.
’That little guy is living the good life in Japan,’ Shen Yibin mused. ’Well, it makes sense. He’s being worshipped like a god over there. His daily als must be incredible. Hmm, maybe next ti I can take Shi Gaofei over to the Honjin Raccoon Shrine for a trip. I could have Shi Gaofei take him running and help him lose so weight.’
’I wonder how the devotees of the Honjin Raccoon Shrine would react if they saw their great god Egg getting beaten up by Pingtou? Just thinking about it is hilarious!’
They talked for a while longer, only reluctantly hanging up when Sylvie’s phone was about to die. Shen Yibin checked the ti—it was already five-thirty. They hadn’t eaten lunch and were starting to get hungry. Plus, with Sun Qian’s performance over, they decided not to stay for the rest of the show and prepared to head back to the hotel for dinner.
"I’ll give Sun Qian a call and have her co back with us." After speaking, Shen Yibin dialed Sun Qian’s number, but her line was suddenly difficult to reach. He got a busy signal several tis before the call finally went through. "Congratulations, congratulations! Your performance was incredible. Out of all the acts today, you drew the biggest crowd by far."
"I’m guessing at least half those people were here to see Hah’Er. I was just basking in his glow," Sun Qian replied. Despite her wildly successful debut, she remained very modest.
"Alright, it’s getting late. Why don’t we head back to the hotel for dinner?" Shen Yibin knew she was tired from singing, so he cut to the chase. "Sylvie and I will wait for you at the exit."
"Oh, I’ll be right out to give you Hah’Er back. And could you look after Cheeky for , too? I’m afraid I can’t join you for dinner. A few music companies just asked to et with ," Sun Qian said, sounding apologetic. "I’ll join you for drinks later tonight."
"This is important business, you should go ahead. Just say the word if you need any help. Sylvie is quite good at negotiating." ’She’s a princess, after all,’ he thought. ’She’s been exposed to this sort of thing since she was little. Handling a couple of music companies would be a piece of cake for her.’
"Today is just a preliminary eting, we’re a long way from signing any contracts. I won’t trouble Sylvie," Sun Qian said with a laugh. "I’m almost out. Let’s talk more at the exit."
After hanging up, Shen Yibin and Sylvie went to the gate and waited. A mont later, Sun Qian erged, leading Hah’Er by the hand. Fortunately, the concert wasn’t over yet, so there weren’t many people leaving. Otherwise, they would have been instantly mobbed by enthusiastic fans, and escaping wouldn’t have been so easy.
From the mont she appeared, Sun Qian’s phone never stopped ringing. Judging from her side of the conversations, the calls were all from music companies or agents, and they all seed extrely interested in her.
"You go handle your business. I’ll take good care of Cheeky. We’re all friends here, no need to be so formal. We’ll be waiting for you at the hotel!" Seeing Sun Qian’s dream on the verge of coming true, both Shen Yibin and Sylvie were thrilled for her. They waved goodbye, then headed for the hotel with Hah’Er in tow and Cheeky perched on a shoulder.
Back at the hotel, they ordered a lavish feast. They opened so beers, pouring full glasses for Sylvie and Hah’Er. Even Cheeky got a small glass of red wine. The four of them raised their glasses in a simultaneous toast to celebrate Sun Qian’s successful performance.
anwhile, Sun Qian was in a lounge at the venue, graciously eting with wave after wave of visitors. The offers from today’s music companies were far more generous than the ones she’d received before, yet Sun Qian held firm to her principles: she would only make the music she loved and sing the songs she wanted to sing.
After dinner, Shen Yibin brought Hah’Er and Cheeky to Sylvie’s suite. The two humans sat on the garden terrace, drinking tea and chatting as they waited for Sun Qian to return.
At ten o’clock, there was finally a knock at the door. Shen Yibin opened it to let Sun Qian in. "So? How did it go?"
