"Don’t worry, it’s no trouble at all. Duoji and I are from the sa tribe, so I’m happy for her pregnancy and want to help take care of her for a couple of days." Sang Luo took the towel, rinsed it in the basin, and smiled. "Besides, Witch Doctor, so things are just awkward for the males to handle. It’s much easier for as a female."
"Alright then. Just rember to apply this essential oil three tis a day: in the morning..." Douya didn’t press the issue. After giving her instructions, she told the few males outside to be extra attentive and then left for the other pregnant females’ rooms.
Sang Luo saw a red glint flash in the eyes of the disguised Beastman and grew even more thrilled.
She found a few tasks for the males to do and sent them away.
"Thank you for everything, Luoluo!" Duoji sighed, so moved she was at a loss for words. "Actually, I’ve been wanting to find a mont to apologize to you in private. Back when Tu Zhu was pressuring you, I really shouldn’t have said those things!"
"I know you ant well. Tu Zhu’s strength is impressive, and mating with him would have more pros than cons. It’s just that on the matter of choosing a mate, I’m not willing to be forced." ’Her way of thinking was still a little different from the native females of the Beast World. She didn’t care much about clan power or passing down a bloodline; when it ca to finding a man, she just wanted to find soone she actually liked.’
"I get it now." Duoji seed to recall sothing and lowered her voice. "It’s a good thing you didn’t end up mating with Tu Zhu. That Male Beast is incredibly ambitious! And his thods... they’re really sothing."
"Tell about it."
"He was originally engaged to the witch doctor’s daughter to secure his path to becoming the Clan Leader. Now, Manla has been gone for less than a month, and he was supposed to be in mourning for three months. But what happens? It’s barely been any ti at all, and he’s already managed to snag the Wanxiang Tribe’s only noble female! The two of them are holding their mating ceremony in just a few days!"
"The Wanxiang Tribe has plenty of young Male Beasts with better Talent Abilities than him. The Clan Leader originally wanted his daughter’s first mate to be chosen from within their own tribe, but no one expected Tu Zhu to snatch that position. I bet he’s got his eyes on the Wanxiang Tribe itself now! A male that ambitious is a curse on whoever takes him!"
"...Thank you for telling all this. But I won’t be staying in the Thousand Elephant Tribe for long, so I won’t have any dealings with him in the future."
"That’s good. Still, you should be careful for the next few days. I’m afraid he resents you now."
"Mm."
That night, Sang Luo slept on a separate bed next to a soundly sleeping Duoji.
Sang Luo felt no drowsiness all night, her eyes fixed on the door.
Suddenly, a stealthy shadow appeared at the door. The humanoid figure slowly twisted into an unspeakable dark form, creeping across the wall like a spiderweb to surround the two vulnerable females on the wooden beds.
Just as it was about to engulf them, Sang Luo flipped over, swiftly conjuring a Thunder Ball in her hand and striking the dark shadow.
WHOOSH— The tentacle-like shadow instantly receded like a tidal wave. Seizing the opportunity, she pressed her attack, hurling another Thunder Ball toward the door.
With a bloodcurdling scream, the fake Beastman collapsed in the doorway, transforming into a giant, pitch-black centipede!
The commotion brought other Beastn rushing over from nearby. Thinking a pregnant female had been hard, they had already alerted the Clan Leader and several Elders.
They saw the corpse of a low-rank Insect Beast in the doorway, the Power of thunder and lightning still crackling within its wounds.
Then, all eyes fell on Sang Luo as she stepped out.
"You have a Talent Power?" soone asked in surprise.
"It’s my mate’s superpower. I’m pretty good at using it."
"Our tribe has a few females with high Fertility who’ve mated with High Rank Beastn and gained a portion of their mate’s Talent Power, but very few can use it this well!" ’She’s practically on par with a real High Rank Beastman!’
Duoji’s face went pale. "Luoluo, you saved my life and my child’s!" Being quick-witted, she instantly understood. Sang Luo must have realized sothing was wrong long ago, which was why she had insisted on staying the night.
’If it weren’t for Sang Luo, she would have been a goner!’
Pamir was overco with fear and concern for her. He resigned from his post in the Hunting Team, vowing to stay by Duoji’s side for the ti being.
The Clan Leader and the Elders were furious. A mber of the Insect Clan had infiltrated the Thousand Elephant Tribe! They ordered a thorough investigation.
Seeing that the tribesn seed to already know about the Insect Clan, Sang Luo asked one of the Elders, "Has the Insect Clan appeared in the tribe before? Where do they co from?"
"Who knows where those damn things co from," the Elder replied. "Ever since the Beast Tide broke out a while back, these mbers of the Insect Clan just suddenly appeared in the forest. All the other nearby tribes, besides our own Thousand Elephant Tribe, have had females abducted. It’s impossible to defend against them!"
The Insect Clan’s ability to disguise themselves was too powerful. They probably wouldn’t give up so easily after failing to capture a female. Sang Luo was still worried about Duoji, and she also wanted to find out where the Insect Clan ca from. On top of that, small-scale Beast Tides were still breaking out in the forest, leaving the Hunting Team short-handed. She decided to stay for a few more days and patrol with the Thousand Elephant Tribe’s Hunting Team.
