Sang Luo felt an indescribable sense of loss.

During her pregnancy and right after she gave birth, Caesar had practically clung to her side day and night. He’d taken care of every little detail. No matter how busy he was these days, it was impossible that she wouldn’t see a trace of him for days on end.

On the few occasions they did run into each other, his attitude toward her was considerably colder. They would exchange a few words before he left again.

As night fell, the space beside her was empty. Sang Luo touched the cool bedding, her sleep uneasy for the past few nights.

Waking in the middle of the night, Sang Luo was startled to see a figure standing ramrod straight before her bed.

"What are you doing standing by my bed in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?"

Caesar watched her quietly, for how long he didn’t know. Seeing her breathing heavily and seeming very unsettled, he asked, "Did you have a nightmare?"

"You scared !"

"..."

Sang Luo looked at his handso, cool face, and her throat suddenly felt dry. "I’m a little thirsty."

Caesar poured her a glass of water.

Sang Luo took the water and drank, then lowered her head without a word.

Caesar showed no intention of speaking either, and the two of them remained in silence. Sang Luo could feel his gaze fixed on her. At first glance, it was no different from before, but she trusted her sixth sense. Caesar’s emotions were frigid, bordering on indifferent. When he looked at her, his eyes seed to hold a strange scrutiny and confusion.

Sang Luo got up and wrapped her arms around his lean, powerful waist. In a soft, seductive voice, she asked, "Aren’t you going to stay with tonight?"

Caesar took her hands and gently pried them away. "So other ti."

"..."

"I have so things to take care of. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going."

And just like that, he left. His figure vanished in an instant.

Sang Luo’s eyes widened. She felt as if she’d been struck by lightning, her chest so tight she could barely breathe. ’He’s really had a change of heart!’

’...Where did things go wrong?’

’Does he just cast people aside after they’ve had his child???’

’So these King Beasts only care about their offspring?!’

Sang Luo had always thought Caesar was different from Duotu. At the very least, she believed he had feelings for her. She never imagined that in his eyes, she was just a tool for producing children...

A fire burned in Sang Luo’s chest. Forgetting her coat, she ran outside into the wind, and her mind quickly began to clear.

If Caesar had truly changed, then she had no reason to stay.

Sang Luo hadn’t forgotten her true purpose. She needed to obtain the power of more King Beasts; she couldn’t have only Caesar as her Beast Husband.

He had already held her up for too long.

’Ti for a clean break.’

’This child repays the debt she owed him for this ti together.’

Sang Luo lowered her head, her long lashes casting shadows beneath her eyes. She was calm and rational to the point of being callous.

Her head now completely clear, Sang Luo returned to her room to rest. She didn’t see that after she’d gone, Caesar had appeared outside the door. He watched her retreating figure, a flash of pained confusion in his eyes.

The uproar over the "gene females" quickly died down. Sang Luo had sent Leon to investigate, and he learned that the Beast King had canceled this year’s selection. Little Bai had been staying at the manor under the guise of a handmaiden, successfully avoiding her family’s search. She had been Sang Luo’s personal attendant throughout her postpartum confinent, and Sang Luo had grown very fond of the cute little Rabbit Beast female.

One day, after Sang Luo had finished breakfast, Little Bai ca in. "My lady, I’m leaving the Imperial City. I ca to say a proper goodbye! Thank you so much for your care during this ti!"

Sang Luo put down her chopsticks and looked at her. "Where do you plan on going? Have you found a place to live? If there’s anything you need help with, don’t hesitate to ask."

Little Bai despised her family and would never go back, but as a Rabbit Beast female without strong hunting abilities, she would surely have a hard ti making a living on her own.

"My Fertility is low, so I doubt any male would be willing to support . I plan to leave the Imperial City and go to a nearby town to open a small food stall. I’m going into business!"

"That’s ambitious. Your cooking is excellent; I was actually hoping to keep you here."

"Hehe, if I go bankrupt, I’ll co right back!"

"Haha, I can’t wish for you to go bankrupt, of course. I wish you success in opening one... no, many, many eateries! May you open a chain of them all across the Empire, with business booming more and more!" Sang Luo laughed. "Co back and visit when you have ti. I’ll miss you."

"I’ll take those auspicious words, my lady! If I really do make it big one day, you’ll be the guest of honor at my restaurant. You can eat anything you want, on the house!"

As they laughed and talked, the ti ca to say goodbye. Little Bai, looking very reluctant to part, took out two packages. "I’m so grateful to you, my lady, and to Brother Leopard for taking care of ," she said to Sang Luo and Leon. "I prepared so small gifts before leaving. Please accept them as a small token of my appreciation. I hope you’ll like them."
