Little Qi knew his daddy was back and wanted to see him, but Sang Luo didn’t dare tell the child the truth. She only told him that Quan Jin had run into so trouble and was exhausted, needing a few days of quiet rest. She barely managed to gloss over the matter for the ti being.
But the truth couldn’t stay hidden forever. If Quan Jin didn’t wake up or show any improvent, the child would grow suspicious.
"Didn’t you say you’d place our daughter in my hands yourself? I haven’t even seen you once."
"Leaving the child for and the other Beast Husbands to raise... What kind of mate are you...?"
"If you don’t wake up soon, I’ll let Little Qi accept Fei Yuan as his father..."
Sang Luo sat by the bed, watching over Quan Jin. She hadn’t slept for days.
One day, she was so exhausted she couldn’t stay awake any longer and fell asleep, slumped over his body.
Waking in the middle of the night, she opened her eyes to et a pair of cold, deep purple irises. She jumped, nearly holding her breath. "Quan Jin..."
After his eyes focused on her, Quan Jin’s gaze gradually softened, tinged with a hint of guilt. "I’m sorry, Sangsang. It’s my fault you were put in danger."
"I’m fine. I’m just so glad you’re awake. I was starting to think you’d never wake up... If soone else had woken up in your place, I really don’t know what I would have done." The tension drained from Sang Luo.
Quan Jin saw the dark circles under her eyes, and a bitter pang went through his heart. He got out of bed, intending to carry her back to it so she could rest properly. But he paused, looking with surprise at his own severed right hand, and frowned.
Sang Luo said worriedly, "Your hand..."
"It’s nothing. It was just a limb manifested from Demonic Qi." A surge of Demonic Qi flowed from the stump of Quan Jin’s arm, and his hand regenerated completely. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her into an embrace, and rested his forehead against the side of her neck, murmuring, "I almost broke my promise to you again."
"As long as you ca back safely, that’s all that matters. Otherwise, I really don’t know what I would have told our son." Sang Luo patted his shoulder. "The one who almost possessed you... that was the Lord of the Demon Realm, the Demon Lord, right?"
Quan Jin humd in affirmation. "He and I are related by blood. He once intended to groom as his successor, but I repeatedly defied him and openly stood against him. He decided to kill and wanted to use my body to resurrect himself."
"How did you fall for his trap?" Sang Luo pulled away from him and asked.
’Quan Jin dared to openly provoke the Demon Lord and challenge him; he must have had an escape plan. He wouldn’t have ended up in such a sorry state otherwise.’
Quan Jin hesitated for a mont before saying, "The Demon Lord used our daughter to threaten . My mind was in turmoil, and that’s how I fell for it."
"Our daughter?" Sang Luo’s eyes widened in shock. She asked anxiously, "What happened to our daughter?!"
Quan Jin’s hands clenched into fists, his face filled with guilt. "Our daughter is not in a good state. I... In short, Sangsang, don’t let her hatch yet. Sothing is wrong with her. It’s best to lock her up and not let her co into contact with anyone, especially you!"
"Explain everything clearly before you go. I’m prepared for it."
Quan Jin hadn’t intended to tell her, but eting her determined gaze, he lowered his voice. "I didn’t know when I rescued her. I only found out later from the Demon Lord himself. He placed a Demon mark on the egg. When she is born, it’s highly likely she’ll be a ferocious, bloodthirsty Demon Beast."
Sang Luo stumbled back two steps, her head spinning. Quan Jin caught her and helped her sit on the bed. "There is a way to remove the Demon mark. I need to make a trip back to the Void Demon Realm. I promise, I will save her."
"...You’re going after the Demon Lord again?"
"Don’t worry. I won’t fall for his tricks this ti."
"Fei Yuan and the Holy Monarch of the Angel Clan have already gone to the Void Demon Realm to fight the Demon Lord. You should stay here and recover."
Hearing this, Quan Jin’s expression didn’t improve. His brow furrowed deeply. "Sangsang, you don’t know what kind of being the Demon Lord is. He... He is bizarre and cunning, and He has left himself many escape routes. He hid his most important things in a place no outsider can reach. So things, I must sever myself!"
In the end, Sang Luo couldn’t stop him. Quan Jin left once more.
Little Qi got to see his father one last ti before he left.
Sang Luo had been hiding a lot from the child, but Little Qi was perceptive and understood more than she realized. He had been worried about his father for days. Seeing him return safe and sound, and after Quan Jin patted his head and reassured him, the weight in Little Qi’s heart was finally lifted.
He asked Sang Luo, "Mother, why did Daddy leave again? Where is he going?"
"Daddy has sothing important to do, and it’s related to your little sister," Sang Luo said. "Little Qi, let Mother see your sister."
Little Qi handed her the white egg.
Sang Luo stroked the smooth white egg in her hands. The purple patterns on its surface seed to have dimd even more. Before, she had always wanted this little one to be born soon, but now, she prayed it wouldn’t co out so early...
"Mother, will little sister be okay?" Little Qi had also sensed that sothing was wrong for a while, but he refused to let himself think about it.
"She’ll be fine. Before your sister hatches, I’ll take care of her," Sang Luo said, stroking his little head.
"Okay." Little Qi nodded.
「Nearly half a month passed.」
None of the three had returned, but thankfully, their bond marks showed that nothing had happened to them.
One night, Sang Luo was sleeping fitfully when her body suddenly felt light as soone lifted her into their arms.
She woke up and opened her eyes. Recognizing the man before her, she said, "You’re back..."
Moonlight stread through the window, filling the room. Perhaps it was because the moonlight was especially cold that night, but Minos’s face was very pale. As Sang Luo moved closer, she caught the scent of blood on him and was instantly wide awake. "You’re injured?"
"Just a minor injury."
Minos’s expression was calm, his robes neat and spotless, looking no different than usual.
Sang Luo leaned in, sniffing near his chest and shoulders. The sll of blood was clearly growing stronger. It definitely wasn’t the minor injury he claid.
"Change back to your Angel Beast Body and let see," Sang Luo said suddenly.
Minos’s body stiffened for a mont. He didn’t move.
"Hurry up. Otherwise, I’ll rip your clothes off right now. If I find out you lied to , you... you can forget about ever seeing again!" Sang Luo urged fiercely.
Minos hesitated for a mont, then changed back into his beast form.
Sang Luo clamped a hand over her mouth as tears stread from her eyes.
Her hand trembling, she reached out to touch the broken wings on Minos’s back. One, two, three... three of his wings were severed. The remaining ones were twisted and bent, many feathers were missing, and the rest were a chaotic, miserable ss. She could hardly believe these were the sa smooth, beautiful wings she had caressed that other night.
A bitter sorrow filled Sang Luo’s heart. She choked out, "You didn’t have to do all this for ..."
Minos looked at her reddened eyes and wiped away the tears from their corners with his fingers.
His voice was very soft.
"You cry for , too?"
"I... I’m not made of stone!" Sang Luo buried her face in his chest, her sobs growing stronger, not wanting him to see what a ss she was while crying.
An indescribable satisfaction filled Minos’s heart. He lifted her chin and lowered his head, kissing the tears from her eyes.
"Stay by my side, okay?"
