Gong Shuxu had previously stated that such missions were randomly assigned to agents not currently handling other assignnts. However, while waiting for Wu Yihuo's surgery, Chen Gu had covertly asked Qing Ruyan.
According to convention, an agent of Chen Gu's standing would never be assigned such a task.
Chen Gu reflected that if the power plant hadn't lost power at the crucial mont, he might not have been able to subdue that electric leech Mutant on the spot.
The result could have been the electric leech Mutant completely destroying the power plant and then escaping.
Even if he hadn't been injured on such a mission, he would still have been held responsible afterward!
This ant that if Wu Yihuo and Chu Zheng hadn't helped him communicate with Bureau Headquarters, he likely would have botched this mission.
But Wu Yihuo had been seriously injured because of it.
He headed straight for the Bureau of Mystic Security building. It was now past eight in the morning, and the administrative staff inside had already started their workday. Chen Gu had initially intended to find Gong Shuxu, but he changed direction midway and headed straight for the Deputy Director's office.
Rainbow smiled brightly when she saw Chen Gu again. "Yo, what brings you to ?"
Chen Gu's face was grim as he recounted the events of the previous night's mission. "I want to know who assigned this task to ."
Rainbow thought for a mont. "Doing so doesn't violate any regulations."
"I know," Chen Gu said. "But I also have reasonable suspicions."
"Do you want to retaliate against the clerk who assigned you the mission?" Rainbow inquired.
Chen Gu shook his head. "I think the issue isn't who assigned the mission. The problem might be that this itself is a trap!"
Rainbow frowned. Chen Gu stepped forward and pressed, "Will you help ?"
Rainbow casually pulled up an interface. "If I use my authority to help you find that clerk, and the investigation reveals everything is normal—that you were simply unlucky enough to get this mission—do you know what the consequences would be?"
Chen Gu paused. Rainbow continued, "My reputation within the Bureau would be ruined. Everyone would think that I, a Deputy Director, used the most childish ans to show you favoritism."
"I probably couldn't stay on at the Bureau any longer."
Chen Gu wanted to say sothing, but Rainbow stopped him. "I'll help you find this person. If the investigation shows you were indeed targeted, then so be it. But if it proves to be just your baseless speculation, and as a result, I have to voluntarily resign and leave the Bureau—then the favor from when you saved Aviloya will be considered repaid."
Chen Gu nodded quickly. "Okay."
He had never expected any reward for saving Aviloya previously.
Rainbow's fingers moved, and internal surveillance footage flashed onto the screen. When Chen Xiaoyue appeared, Rainbow suddenly laughed. "So that's how it is! HEH HEH. This has gotten interesting."
