Huangfu Ruiling and Ye Leng’an were on their way back after leaving the Huangfu family’s ancestral mansion.
In the car, Ye Leng’an looked at Huangfu Ruiling who was sitting beside her, and raised her eyebrows curiously. “Why the sudden decision? You used to ignore them. What made you want to cut ties now?”

“That’s the price of playing the field,” Huangfu Ruiling remarked bluntly. “His own promiscuity led to this.”
Hearing his blunt assessnt, Ye Leng’an shook her head in amusent and continued, “Seems like today’s drama was Zhong Yating’s handiwork. But it’s also a payback for what Li Yiran did. Rember when she almost exposed Zhong Yating and caused a rift?”
“Only a fool like Huangfu Ruixiang could get caught up with two won like that.” Huangfu Ruiling sneered. “His mind’s too preoccupied with trivial matters. He doesn’t even have the focus to cultivate. And Huangfu Jingzhang and Zhongyu Liuying want him to keep wasting resources in the Hidden World.”
“Maybe they see him as a diamond in the rough,” Ye Leng’an mused. “They think his talent’s solid, just overshadowed by his distractions. So, they’re hoping he’ll snap out of it and prove himself.”
“They’re deluding themselves,” Huangfu Ruiling remarked coldly.
Ye Leng’an didn’t argue. After a mont, she changed the subject. “By the way, what’s going to happen to Li Yi and Li Yiran? Are they really getting kicked out of the Huangfu family?”
“Li Yi was a Huangfu family guard. Betraying his master ans he’ll get the boot,” Huangfu Ruiling explained matter-of-factly. “Before leaving, though, his cultivation will be stripped. And anything he got from the family stays behind when he goes.”
“Such a tragic outco,” Ye Leng’an remarked, lacking sympathy in her tone, just a sigh. “He truly loved Li Yiran. He once held a respectable position in the Huangfu family. But because of her, he’s faced hardship. And now, for her sake, he’s branded a traitor. Yet, despite all he’s done, Li Yiran still doesn’t return his affection. All his efforts seem in vain.”
Huangfu Ruiling’s expression remained unchanged, showing no signs of concern. It was evident that Li Yi held no significance to him.
Suddenly, Ye Leng’an turned to Huangfu Ruiling, her voice tinged with doubt. “Ling, I sense you’ve changed sohow. I just can’t put my finger on it.”
“Do you think it’s for the better or worse?” Huangfu Ruiling asked, smiling faintly. “And have my feelings toward you changed?”
“I can’t say if it’s good or bad.” Ye Leng’an chuckled. “But your attitude toward will never waver. I’m quite sure of that.”
“Confident in yourself, are you?” Huangfu Ruiling raised an eyebrow, his hand resting on her waist. His gaze revealed that she was the only one in his thoughts.
“I am indeed,” Ye Leng’an said confidently. “If you let go, you won’t find anyone as exceptional as again.”
To others, Ye Leng’an’s confident deanor might seem arrogant, but to Huangfu Ruiling, it was endearing.
With a smile, he tousled her hair affectionately. “You truly are the best. I consider myself lucky to have you.”
Ye Leng’an nodded, sharing the sentint. “Agreed. I’m lucky to have you too.”
In the days that followed, Huangfu Ruiling and Ye Leng’an enjoyed peaceful lives.
Huangfu Jingzhang and the others didn’t dare to disrupt Huangfu Ruiling’s tranquility, mindful of his earlier warnings. Their ties had practically been severed, though outwardly they still appeared as a family. In reality, they had minimal interaction.
Ye Leng’an resud her school routine, living the life of a typical student.
However, one day after class, as she exited the classroom, she spotted a familiar figure waiting at the school gate. Surprised, Ye Leng’an’s eyebrows lifted as she watched the figure approach.
Standing before her, Zhong Yating showed a hint of respect. “Sister-in-law.”
“Why are you here?” Ye Leng’an asked, maintaining her composure despite her astonishnt. “Does Huangfu Ruixiang know you’re here?”
Huangfu Ruiling had made it clear to the Huangfu family not to disrupt their peaceful life. So, seeing Zhong Yating was indeed unexpected. Ye Leng’an wondered if Huangfu Ruixiang had defied Huangfu Ruiling’s orders. But if not, then why was Zhong Yating here? Was it her own decision?
