In order to force Yasaka and Jormungandr to release enough magical energy, Cao Cao's group had even used spells and drugs to forcibly amplify their power—
driving both of them into a berserk state.
Under the stimulation of the drugs, Yasaka and Jormungandr's magical power increased dramatically, but at the cost of unbearable agony.
That was also the reason Ren Kuroda had heard that anguished fox cry earlier.
The once-bustling streets of Kyoto had now beco almost completely deserted under the shadow of the disaster unfolding across the city.
A gigantic blue wolf radiating overwhelming pressure sprinted through the empty streets at incredible speed, carrying a chestnut-haired young man on its back.
"Lord Ren, that bastard Jormungandr actually dared lay a hand on your sworn little sister.
There's no need for you to personally intervene later—I alone can easily suppress him."
Ever since Loki's death, the demonic wolf Fenrir had completely let loose.
At this point, he had fully transford into Ren's loyal attack dog.
Because he still considered himself a newcor within Ren's camp, Fenrir was especially eager to prove his worth.
He knew exactly what kind of opponent Jormungandr was.
Sure, the serpent was huge, but in front of a monster ranked among the world's top ten powerhouses like himself, Jormungandr was little more than prey.
"With Yasaka's strength and Kyoto amplifying her, she shouldn't have lost to Jormungandr.
Sothing else must've happened.
For a while earlier, both Yasaka's and Jormungandr's presences completely vanished."
The Longinus-class Sacred Gear Absolute Demise could infinitely expand spiritual mist around its wielder, sealing away everything within its range and even banishing targets into alternate dinsions.
Because of Absolute Demise's interference, neither Fenrir's nose nor Ren's perception abilities had been able to detect Cao Cao's group earlier.
However, the mont they arrived near central Kyoto and saw the two colossal monsters roaring in agony while releasing massive amounts of magical power—
even an idiot could tell sothing was terribly wrong.
The magical energy pouring out of Yasaka and Jormungandr, combined with a specialized spell and Kyoto's spiritual veins, had actually connected the skies above Kyoto to the legendary Dinsional Gap itself.
At this rate, with such reckless and massive energy output, even beings like Yasaka and Jormungandr would eventually be drained dry and die from magical exhaustion.
Ren still didn't know who was pulling the strings behind all this.
But there was no way he was going to stand by and watch Yasaka die.
At Ren's silent signal, Fenrir imdiately leapt forward toward the location where Yasaka and Jormungandr were trapped.
But just as Fenrir and Ren were about to reach them—
a man and woman suddenly appeared out of thin air on either side of Fenrir.
Wielding a demonic sword and a holy sword respectively, they slashed directly toward Fenrir's throat.
Faced with the sudden ambush, Fenrir reacted instantly.
His beastlike instincts scread danger, causing him to halt just before the blades reached his neck.
At the sa ti, one enormous claw lashed outward toward the attackers.
"CRAAACK—!"
Fenrir's claws might not have possessed the sa legendary reputation as his Godslayer Fangs, but as one of mythology's most feared magical beasts, they were naturally terrifyingly sharp.
Under the sheer brute force of his swipe, the demonic sword and holy sword created by Siegfried and Jeanne shattered instantly upon impact.
And because Fenrir overwhelmingly dominated in raw strength, both attackers were blown backward several ters.
Their expressions imdiately beca filled with caution as they stared at the infamous demonic wolf.
"This wasn't part of the original plan.
Nobody ntioned that the demonic wolf Fenrir would beco one of our enemies."
After only a single exchange, Siegfried and Jeanne clearly realized sothing.
Fenrir was vastly stronger than Jormungandr.
They had launched a surprise attack while holding the advantage—
yet they were still the ones pushed back.
"Humans?
Pathetic lower lifeforms like you actually dared provoke Lord Ren… and lay hands on Kyoto's Nine-Tailed Fox and the Dragon King?"
The instant Siegfried and Jeanne appeared, Fenrir had already identified what they were.
Gods, devils, yokai—every race possessed a different scent.
And Fenrir would never mistake the sll of humans.
What truly surprised him, however, was that insignificant creatures he normally wouldn't even bother acknowledging had actually dared kidnap a Nine-Tailed Fox and a Dragon King.
"And what if we are human?"
Before Siegfried or Jeanne could respond, Cao Cao stepped forward from behind them, casually resting the Spear of Twilight over his shoulder.
"We are the true protagonists of this world.
This world should have belonged to humanity from the very beginning.
The arrogant gods and devils standing above mankind—
and the monsters that treat human life like worthless grass—
none of them should exist in this world."
Even while facing the infamous Fenrir—
and Ren Kuroda, the man capable of subjugating Fenrir—
Cao Cao's expression remained astonishingly calm.
"So you're the 'Hero Faction' Vali ntioned."
Ren's gaze swept calmly across the group before him.
"But there's sothing I don't understand.
The enemies of the Khaos Brigade are supposed to be the Three Biblical Factions and the various mythological systems.
The Kyoto yokai haven't officially joined any alliance yet.
And compared to the other factions, Kyoto's forces honestly aren't all that remarkable."
Ren paused slightly before narrowing his eyes.
"Or…
were you planning to make an example out of us?
Find an easy target to crush first so the rest of the mythological factions understand the Khaos Brigade isn't to be provoked?"
When Vali previously ntioned the Khaos Brigade cooperating with Loki, Ren had assud their primary target was Odin, king of the Norse gods.
But now it was obvious that had rely been a smokescreen.
Even Loki himself had been nothing more than a disposable pawn.
Judging from Cao Cao's ticulous preparations, their true objective from the start had always been Kyoto and Yasaka.
Use Loki to exhaust Azazel and Odin.
Use Jormungandr and Yasaka to weaken each other.
Then have the world-ranked monster Fenrir deal with an already heavily injured Ren.
It had to be said—
Cao Cao's entire sche had been nearly flawless.
If no unexpected variables had appeared, they likely could have executed the rest of their plan effortlessly and summoned the True Red Dragon Emperor without resistance.
Unfortunately for them—
they never could have predicted that not only would Fenrir fail to maul Ren half to death…
the demonic wolf would instead end up joining Ren's side.
According to their original calculations, the enemy standing before them should have been a heavily wounded Ren on the verge of collapse.
At that point, they intended to use Yasaka as leverage and force him into their camp.
But now?
Ren looked completely energized and unhard.
And to make matters worse, Fenrir had beco his subordinate as well.
The number of troubleso enemies had increased from one to two—
and both of them were unquestionably monsters capable of ranking among the world's top ten strongest beings.
"I'll handle Ren Kuroda personally.
The rest of you deal with Fenrir together."
Cao Cao tightened his grip on the Spear of Twilight as his expression finally turned serious.
"Now that the plan has already begun—
there's no turning back."
