Micah climbed the stairs at an unhurried pace, one hand brushing lightly against the railing as he went. His steps were light, his mood still riding high from the way he had teased Darcy earlier. Such a cute brother, trying to get the upper hand with him. Darcy had no idea he was the definition of shalessness. When it ca to winning and losing, Micah used every ans. Anyway, his motto was simple: whoever got embarrassed sooner would lose. And it proved to be the right attitude.

A faint curl of amusent lingered at Micah’s lips.

At the landing, he tilted his head and spotted the restroom sign glowing softly against the muted hallway lights. He adjusted his qipao, slipped inside, and quickly took care of his business. The quiet hum of the ventilation fan filled the space, and for a mont, his thoughts drifted idly, his earlier tension loosening from his shoulders.

He washed his hands and brushed a strand of his wig aside. He t his reflection in the mirror, eyes glowing with joy, knowing Darcy did not ask or even lecture him about his choice of appearance. Earlier, a small part of him had dreaded hearing disappointnt or disgust in Darcy’s voice. But his sweet little brother had accepted him as he was.

It wasn’t that Micah felt a compulsive need to crossdress, but he knew better how society looked at his hobby. Even choosing the fashion design major had been considered disgraceful by the high society standards.

Micah took a deep breath and reached for the door handle when the familiar chanical voice echoed inside his head. "Buzz..."

Micah halted in his tracks. His fingers stiffened around the tal, and his brows drew together instinctively. The air seed to thicken, his earlier ease vanishing in an instant. His heart gave a sharp, uneasy thump against his ribs.

Again?

He leaned slightly against the sink, eyes narrowing as he listened.

Would they detect him without Clyde nearby?

The thought struck him suddenly, sharp and probing. Clyde wasn’t with him right now. Micah inhaled slowly, steadying his breath, then let it out just as carefully.

This was perfect. It was an opportunity.

If the system was active, then this was the ideal mont to test it properly. Darcy was already helping him. If needed, Micah could easily ask him whether Noas was still lingering outside the hallway or if he had finally left. Everything could be verified.

He straightened, posture subtly alert.

"What just happened?" the transmigrator’s voice echoed sharply in his mind, edged with irritation.

Micah blinked, recognising the tone instantly. That voice always sounded like it was perpetually on the brink of snapping, stretched thin by impatience and entitlent.

"Insufficient points... buzzz..." the system replied, its voice glitching slightly, distorted by static.

Micah’s lips twitched. He folded his arms loosely across his chest, leaning back against the counter as if settling in to listen to an argunt unfold.

"Transfer from my previous world redeem points," the transmigrator snapped, anger bleeding through each word. "Do it now."

There was a brief pause. The air around Micah felt oddly charged, as if sothing invisible had shifted.

"Accepting transfer... Zzzz..." the system intoned. "Transfer complete. The system is successfully online."

Micah tilted his head slightly, eyes flicking upward in thought. Online, huh.

"Yeah, yeah... so?" the transmigrator demanded, frustration evident. "What was wrong this ti?"

"This world contains multiple bugs," the system replied flatly. "Points were utilised to perform a temporary system upgrade."

Micah humd under his breath, fingers tapping once against his forearm.

"Good," the transmigrator said, sounding exasperated but relieved. "Make sure it doesn’t happen again. Can you locate the supposed protagonist now?"

"System is searching..."

Micah held his breath, waiting. His shoulders tensed, and he stilled completely, every sense sharpening. His heart beat faster, each pulse loud in his ears as he listened.

They were nearby. That much he knew. Darcy was still on the first floor. Who would the system pick up?

His jaw tightened. Seconds stretched unbearably long.

Then...

"They are not in the detectable range." The instant those words landed, Micah jerked upright.

He jumped, actually jumped, barely stopping himself from letting out a triumphant shout. His hand flew up to his mouth, clamping over it as his shoulders shook with suppressed laughter.

Hallelujah!

His eyes lit up, bright and gleaming, and when he lowered his hand, his smile was radiant, blooming across his face like a flower catching sunlight. Relief flooded through him so quickly that it left him dizzy.

He knew it. Even without Clyde nearby, even without that man acting as so kind of anchor or shield, the system still couldn’t detect him.

Still, he focused on the sound, trying to catch the rest of their conversation.

The system and its host imdiately fell into another argunt, the transmigrator hurling insults while the system responded in flat, chanical rebuttals. Then silence.

Micah fished out his phone from the small handbag and texted Darcy.

RogueOverlord: Look at the hallway. Is there soone there hiding?

The reply ca quickly.

TheDscendantoftheDarkOne: like who? There is a waiter and a staff mber 200 tres away from you.

RogueOverlord: No guests?

TheDscendantoftheDarkOne: Nope. It’s clear.

RogueOverlord: Thanks.

Micah put away his phone, certain in his theory. The system had missed him.

He was safe. The realisation settled warmly in his chest, easing a tension he hadn’t even realised had been held so tightly inside him. His shoulders dropped, and he let out a long, slow breath, his lips still curved upward.

That was such a relief... one that went straight to the heart.

Now things were simpler. Now he could act freely. All he needed to do was guide them toward Darcy next. Once he tested that condition as well, he could move forward without hesitation. Everything would fall neatly into place.

Micah’s eyes glinted. A wicked, mischievous smile crept onto his face as a plan began forming in his mind, each step aligning itself with dangerous elegance.

He reached for the door handle again, fingers relaxed this ti and pushed it open.
