Micah’s heartbeat drumd in his ears as he stood between Darcy and Archie in the cramped storage room. The only light ca from the streetlights in front of the old gym. Too late, Micah realised he was trapped between the second male lead and the protagonist. The very thing he had agonised over all afternoon. Micah tried to draw a slow breath, but Archie’s tall and imposing figure lood on his right, and that cedar-and-leather scent rolling off the man filled his lungs instead. Instinct pushed Micah left toward Darcy. He took a tiny half step, just enough for his arm to touch Darcy’s side. He wanted to be anywhere but next to Archie, that treacherous second male lead.

Darcy noticed Micah’s shifting, but he didn’t move. Their shoulders brushed at first, then he leaned back a little, overlapping them. If he stretched his hand, he could easily pull Micah into his embrace.

"Don’t move," Archie growled in the dark, his voice barely above a whisper, "What if you step on a loose board and make a noise?! Ashley will notice us."

Micah straightened his back a little, but kept his mouth shut, pressing his lips together. He thought Archie’s words were too domineering. Who put this guy in command? Did he think that because he was the captain of an Esports team, he could order around everyone? Still, Micah swallowed his retort. He didn’t want to blow Russell’s plan by accident.

Then Micah’s mind began to work. Was he stopping him from leaning on Darcy? He wondered, a nervous tremor in his fingers. Why? No way! Could he already be interested in Darcy? At first sight?

In the book, Archie only noticed Darcy after Darcy had saved him from those thugs who were hired by his rival team to crush his hands in the alley.

But here, they hadn’t even said hello.

The dread flooded back. He peeked out of the corner of his eye. Archie, with those green eyes, was staring at him. Micah flinched and averted his eyes.

Shit! He was scrutinising him! Micah freaked out inwardly.

Micah turned his head toward Darcy for comfort, only to freeze again. Darcy’s eyes weren’t on him. They were locked on Archie! Wide, thoughtful, almost curious.

No... Fucking...Way!!!!

Micah’s mouth ford a round, silent O.

Darcy! Don’t look at him like that! He’s trouble. Big, shiny, muscle-covered trouble! Micah wailed in his head.

What was Darcy really looking at?! Did he find Archie attractive? Did he think he was sexy or sothing?

Micah fought the urge to grab Darcy’s shoulders and shake him hard, putting sense into him, saying, ’Hey, hey! Snap out of it! Archie is a snake! He is two-faced! He will tornt you in the future! Don’t fall in love with him! Co back to the light! Don’t go to the dark side!’

Instead, Micah’s hand twitched out and pinched Darcy’s military uniform. A tiny tug.

anwhile, Darcy’s thoughts were running a different track. He was studying Russell’s older brother. Micah’s first reaction to him was strange. The way he had turned pale, fingers trembling and grabbing his hand, Darcy deduced that Micah knew the man. But why did they behave awkwardly? Micah’s initial fear or nerves had lessened, and just jittery subtle movent remained. Like those maiden girls seeing their betrothed for the first ti!

Not to ntion, all the man’s attention was focused on Micah. Those green eyes were full of interest with a hint of greediness.

Darcy could tell. He didn’t know how or why, but he could feel the young man was forming a plan to take Micah away. To monopolise him...

Darcy froze. Why did this word pop into his head?! Darcy shivered as if a cold coin slid down his back.

Then Micah tugged at Darcy’s clothes. The sudden, strange question disappeared like it was never there.

Darcy took his gaze from Archie and looked at him. The intensity in his dark eyes softened into affection. The sharp tension in his shoulders eased. Not that Micah realised that.

Micah shot him an accusing look.

Darcy paused; he couldn’t understand what Micah ant. Then, he leaned down until his lips were near Micah’s ear, whispering, "Sorry..."

Micah was taken aback. Sorry? For what? Did he guess correctly? Why was Darcy apologising?! His wide eyes stared at Darcy.

"I dragged you into this..." Darcy mumbled.

Micah’s soul, which had left him from fright thinking Darcy had fallen in love with Archie, returned to his body.

"Fool..." Micah spat in a low voice.

Beside them, Archie watched every micro-interaction: Micah’s lean toward Darcy, then his quick tug, Darcy’s bend, the hush of words. Sothing dark flickered behind his eyes. It seed the two were very close. His fingers curled at his sides.

Then a sudden thought flashed in his mind. Was this freshman rep the one behind DarkVyne?

Didn’t Lulu and Zian ntion that the mysterious player, DarkVyne, always queued with FrostbiteAshe after reappearing?

Archie’s pulse quickened.

The possibility was not far-fetched. Archie fell into thought. His mind conjured a plan.

After he dealt with Ashley, he should clarify that he knew their gaming ID and bring them to the SilverBlade Legion.

If the dark-haired boy was not DarkVyne, even better. He could kick him out of Micah’s life.

The trio looked at each other, their minds full of misconceptions.

Their breaths mixed in that small storage room, each one examining the other, trying to guess what was happening in their minds.

A sudden set of hurried footsteps broke the tension between them. All three jerked their heads toward the door. Archie raised one finger, warning.

Micah rolled his eyes. Darcy’s eyes drifted outside, trying to see who the culprit was from the gap in the wooden door.

Micah swallowed hard, trying to stand still, focusing on any strange sound.

He pictured Russell outside, bouncing on his toes, nervous. He pictured the culprit walking right into him, smug, sure of himself, ready to lie. He had to trust Russell knew what he was doing.

And why was he still here? Why did he accept this bizarre request? Shouldn’t they be apologetic to Darcy and make ands? What the hell were they doing, shoving them into this old, damp storage room with one of the psycho male leads?!

Fine, he wasn’t the brightest person. But why did Darcy co along to do this stupid thing?!

Well, Archie was not normal either. So he didn’t even try to understand Archie’s reasoning for agreeing to Russell’s request.

Micah belatedly realised how stupid their actions were.
