"First squad in position."
"Second squad in position."
At the edge of Yunhua's urban area, several ard squads had rushed to construct defensive lines imdiately after receiving their orders.
The soldiers set up several large floodlights for illumination, making the surroundings as bright as daylight.
Due to the rushed nature of the situation, professional roadblocks couldn't be set up in ti. They could only tie so barbed wire to tal barrels and connect these barrels in a row to block the road.
Behind these were the ard squads' armored vehicles equipped with machine guns and artillery. Additionally, several soldiers carrying briefcases were operating equipnt - they were all drone operators.
Several of these operators were controlling military-grade drones, using thermal imaging technology to scan and monitor for target appearances.
However, operators soon discovered that large numbers of living dead weren't being detected. These living dead had completely cold bodies, making thermal imaging utterly useless!
"They're coming!"
"ROAR!!!!!"
The roars of the living dead echoed as thousands of them sward forward. They were all residents from surrounding affected villages and counties, now resurrected from death and charging toward the major city of Yunhua!
"Open fire! We absolutely cannot let them break through the defensive line into the city!"
At the commander's order, several ard squads unleashed their full firepower.
Massive amounts of bullets and grenades poured onto the living dead army assaulting the barrier checkpoint, wiping them out row by row.
Although these living dead feared nothing, their defensive capabilities weren't particularly outstanding. Breaking their limbs would restrict their movent, and destroying their brains would kill them completely.
Therefore, they stood no chance against the powerful firepower network ford by the ard squads. Soon, the first wave of over a thousand living dead soldiers was completely annihilated, filling the air with the heavy sll of gunpowder.
At that mont, a flathrower vehicle slowly approached from the rear.
The commander ordered all the living dead corpses to be completely incinerated with high-temperature flas. This order ca from higher authorities, aiming to prevent any possibility of their resurrection.
Whoosh—!
The flas shot out, adding the sll of roasted at to the gunpowder scent in the air. However, this sll made many soldiers feel nauseous and sick to their stomachs.
Several soldiers looked at the living dead corpses, and one comnted: "What a pity, there probably aren't any rewards for eliminating them this way."
"Yeah, the orders we received seem to be 'eliminate as quickly as possible.' But I heard our eastern brother units are collectively farming coins."
"Collectively farming coins?"
"Mhm. They apparently require everyone to purchase [Primary Weapon Crates]. Then they use firearms and other weapons to destroy the living dead's mobility, and finish them off with cold weapons obtained from the crates."
"That's great! Farming coins in safe conditions!"
Several soldiers sounded envious upon hearing this, but one soldier spoke with a cold tone: "So what if we farm coins? Have you forgotten that our soldiers' Ascension Coins are uniformly distributed and used?"
"..."
"Attention! Large numbers of living dead approaching again!"
"All personnel prepare—open fire!"
...
Hum...
The unmanned transport vehicle slowly moved forward along the main road, with Guan Tong following slightly behind and to the side.
The person and vehicle had been moving like this for over ten minutes, encountering several living dead during this ti. After testing, Guan Tong confird that the living dead's attack priority was humans > moving objects.
As long as humans appeared within about thirty ters, they would be detected and imdiately attacked. If there were no humans in this range, they would attack moving objects instead.
Moreover, saring living dead blood on himself proved useless for Guan Tong. The mont he entered their range, the living dead still imdiately detected his presence.
After walking like this for a few more minutes, Guan Tong suddenly heard loud roars from nurous living dead coming from around a street corner not far away, accompanied by many human shouts.
"Hurry, hurry and block it!"
"Don't just stand there! Go move more tables over!!"
"It's over, there are too many of them..."
Guan Tong quickened his pace and cautiously approached the corner from the other side. Peeking around, he saw hundreds of living dead besieging a bookstore.
The bookstore had apparently been used as a shelter gathering point previously, with many people living inside.
However, the bookstore's glass front door had long disappeared, probably crushed by accumulated snow during the fourth rule or shattered due to low temperatures.
Originally, having no main door wasn't a big problem, but when the fifth rule erged, the situation imdiately changed.
Guan Tong saw that the people gathered there had piled many tables and bookshelves at the entrance to block the living dead from entering.
But the living dead weren't like those slow zombies that just reached out randomly - their frenzy was on a completely different level.
These living dead frantically clawed at the tables and chairs blocking their path, so even opening their mouths to bite with sharp teeth. Several tables blocking the entrance were quickly torn to pieces, losing their defensive function.
Now only a few large bookshelves remained blocking the living dead, but their defensive capability was even worse than the tables, and they would soon be completely dismantled.
"Everyone move aside, I'll handle this!"
At that mont, a young man produced a burning torch. He raised the torch and walked to the entrance. The living dead that had been wildly dismantling the bookshelves seed sowhat fearful, retreating several steps.
"Is that the 'Fast-burning Stick' sold in the store?!"
"I never expected it to have a repelling effect on the living dead, that's great!"
"Where's the repelling? Those living dead are still at the entrance!"
"It seems they just don't attack when you're holding this thing... but I rember each one only lasts 15 minutes of burning ti, right?"
The young man holding the torch urged: "They sell in packs of 10, each lasting 15 minutes, aning a total of two and a half hours of safety! Those who still have Ascension Coins should buy several packs, we can take turns using them and should be able to..."
Before the young man finished speaking, the living dead that had been scared back by the Fast-burning Stick actually surged forward again, resuming their attack!
"What?!" The young man was shocked. "Why isn't it working anymore!"
The Fast-burning Stick's deterrence against the living dead only lasted about ten seconds?
Guan Tong, hiding around the corner, found this strange. If it had a deterrence function, the duration shouldn't be this short... Could it be because there were too many people?
Guan Tong thought this was possible. Perhaps the Fast-burning Stick's deterrence could only protect the user themselves, but couldn't protect others. If one tried to use a single Fast-burning Stick to shelter too many people, it would cause the effect to rapidly diminish.
This was becoming dangerous...
Guan Tong watched the chaotic crowd in the library. In two or three minutes, their defensive line would be breached. When that many living dead charged in, it would beco a human tragedy.
After thinking for a mont, Guan Tong raised his Silver Hunt and switched to Type 3 Ammunition.
He aid at the rear area among the living dead and pulled the trigger.
"BOOM!!!"
The high-explosive round fired, exploding monts later among the rear of the living dead. Instantly, dozens of living dead were blasted away and killed. This sudden developnt also startled everyone in the library.
But they quickly beca ecstatic. With so many living dead eliminated, even though twenty or thirty remained, this was a manageable number that would give them more ti to construct sturdier defenses at the entrance!
"Did soone throw a grenade just now? Did official troops co to rescue us?"
"Where are they?!"
"Hey, you with the helt over there, was that your grenade?"
Soone sharp-eyed spotted Guan Tong and called out to him loudly.
Guan Tong simply nodded slightly in acknowledgnt, then continued walking south along South Avenue without turning left to approach them.
This made everyone anxious imdiately. They clearly needed soone with powerful firepower like Guan Tong!
"Where are you going? Co join us in defense!"
"Brother, it's too dangerous out there! Co inside the library quickly, we're safer together in a group!"
"Don't leave! How many more grenades do you have? Leave us a few!"
Guan Tong paid no further attention to these calls. Using one Type 3 Ammunition round to help them was already enough. Staying to defend together was impossible - he had his own objectives to complete.
