Chapter 976: Chapter 976: Distress Call_1 Chapter 976: Chapter 976: Distress Call_1 Purple Sumrs suddenly received a call from Jane McCain, thoroughly confused.
Before she could ask for clarity, Jane hung up the call.
“What happened?” Alexander Sumrs saw her in a daze and asked aloud.
Purple furrowed her eyebrows, slowly shook her head, her heart filled with so doubts, yet she wondered if she was overthinking…
It was already lunchti, and the servants brought the dishes to the table, a feast for the eyes.
Faintly, the cries and complaints of the old lady carried over: “Why did she co back? Is she intent on embarrassing Violet? Evil marriages are punished by heaven’s thunder, let her leave! Nobody wants to watch her strut around here!”
Violet Nelson and Lysander Russell hadn’t managed to get married, so naturally, there was no such thing as visiting her family after the wedding. In fact, these past few days she had stayed behind closed doors, locking herself in her room, which greatly distressed the old lady.
And Purple Sumrs, radiant with success, beca the old lady’s target of anger.
Old Master Simonson shouted, “Have you made enough of a scene?! The one who was supposed to get married on the sa day was you, now you’re blaming them for marrying on the sa day too! What exactly do you want?!”
The sounds of argunt ca intermittently.
Alexander knitted his brows in displeasure, feeling an overwhelming annoyance with the old woman, wanting to walk out right then and there.
He looked at Purple, but found her deep in thought, as if she heard none of the quarreling.
Better she hadn’t heard.
Hearing those insults would only dirty her ears and spoil her mood.
Alexander touched Purple’s head.
Purple suddenly looked up and asked him, “Did we ever say we would send local products to Jane?”
Alexander was taken aback, “Local products?… With online shopping so convenient, what can’t you buy? Why would we need to send anything?”
“Alexander,” Purple said with a pale face, tensely, “Jane might be in trouble!”
Alexander was puzzled, “What kind of trouble? What did she say on the phone just now?”
Purple didn’t have ti to explain; she imdiately dialed Aria Jackson’s number, but it was busy, so she quickly switched to calling Allen Rivera.
Allen Rivera was a prosecutor, with the authority to dispatch police forces; looking for him was more appropriate than seeking Aria.
As soon as the call connected, Purple said urgently, “Allen, are you free right now? Can you go to East City Street imdiately? East City Street, building 53, unit 1, room 121! I suspect Jane’s in trouble! She called just now and said so very strange things, it’s highly likely she was asking for help!”
“Did you call her back afterwards?” Allen asked.
Purple replied, “No, I don’t know the situation on her end, I’m worried about backfiring.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll take so officers and check it out,” Allen said, “I’ll give you a call once I get there.”
After the call ended, Purple beca increasingly anxious.
On reflection, Jane’s voice just now seed rather eerie, as if she was under extre stress, her tone flat without any cadence.
She initially thought it was because Jane was tired from the flight, but if she was truly that exhausted, then why would she think of asking her to send Kingsley’s specialties the mont she got ho?
Nothing made sense.
“Purple, let’s eat first,” Alexander took her hand, consoling her, “Since Allen is on his way, Jane will be okay. Worrying here won’t help; let’s eat and wait for news.”
“Mm…” Purple nodded thoughtfully, murmuring softly, “Jane is so clever, she won’t be in trouble…”
Her heart tightened.
She was led to the table by Alexander, with no appetite at all.
The old lady, furious, refused to co out for the al. Old Master Simonson put on a pretense, claiming the old lady was unwell. Purple didn’t pay it any mind, silently listening to people talk around the table, her eyes occasionally glancing at her phone.
Hoping Allen would get there as quickly as possible…
