Chapter 807: Chapter 807: Not There_1

Caitlin Carter knew she had surgery scheduled for today, so she got up at five in the morning and started preparing ingredients in the kitchen to stew a nutritious soup to replenish the body.

Having been on an IV drip for the past few days, the doctor had instructed a light diet, and Purple Sumrs had only been eating the al sets provided by the hospital. Now that the surgery was completed and she was at her weakest, it was ti to drink so nutritional products.

Stewing soup requires attention to the heat and timing, and Caitlin Carter got up early in the morning to begin her busy work, calculating the ti so that the soup would be ready after exactly six hours by noon.

There were servants and chefs at ho, but sothing made by her own hands showed greater sincerity.

Purple Sumrs had saved Caitlin Carter’s husband, which was tantamount to saving Caitlin Carter’s future. Caitlin was very grateful to her.

As she was busy, the old lady ca into the kitchen with an indifferent look at her.

...

Upon turning around and suddenly seeing the old lady, Caitlin was so startled that the soup spoon almost slipped from her hand.

Old Lady frowned, “You’re grown up, how co you’re still so flustered, acting like this?”

Caitlin managed a forced smile.

“What’s this?” the old lady asked as she approached and peered at the dark-red purple clay pot, “Is this for Christopher?”

Caitlin was a bit embarrassed as she explained, “Christopher recently shouldn’t have too much nourishnt, this is prepared for Ms. Sumrs…”

She knew the old lady had a grudge against Purple Sumrs, so as she spoke, her voice grew softer and softer, partly out of fear that the old lady might suddenly fly into a rage.

The old lady’s face was expressionless, making it hard to gauge her emotions. She opened the lid of the pot, glanced inside, and said, “Chicken is not stewed like this. Go to my room, there’s a fresh ginseng in the cabinet, bring it here.”

Caitlin was surprised and stood there for a mont, not reacting imdiately.

“What are you dawdling for?” the old lady asked, knitting her brows and speaking sternly, “What, do you think I’m soone who can’t recognize a good deed? She saved Christopher, and I’m not so senile that I’d be ungrateful. A single ginseng isn’t much; hurry up and get it, if you’re too slow it won’t give the soup its proper flavor.”

“…Oh, okay!” Caitlin hurriedly went to fetch the ginseng.

Their son had been saved, and the old lady was in a good mood, thus she was unusually affable today.

At noon, the family gathered around the dining table for lunch, the atmosphere surprisingly relaxed and pleasant.

“Today, Caitlin and I will visit the hospital,” the old lady said, losing her usual harshness and speaking calmly. “We’ll bring the girl so nutritional products and check up on her. After all, we owe her a big thank you this ti.”

Old Master Simonson nodded slightly, “The child is quite comndable, with a sense of propriety that befits a reputable family.”

In his words lay a touch of ancestral pride, as if boasting about the good bloodline of the Simonson family.

Seeing the atmosphere was good, Caitlin tried to voice her own thoughts, “I also think we should express our gratitude properly, but I’m not sure how to show our thanks. Using money seems vulgar, and when it cos to gifts, I have no idea what would be appropriate.”

This indeed was a problem.

As everyone at the dining table discussed potential gifts, offering various suggestions, Violet Nelson kept her head down, eating her al without a word.

Because they spent ti discussing gift choices, the old lady and Caitlin arrived at the hospital around nearly two in the afternoon.

As they were about to enter the patient room, the old lady hesitated.

She had mixed feelings about Purple Sumrs.

Thinking of her as the child of that woman, she felt disgust; considering she was her only granddaughter, she felt hopeful; knowing that Purple Sumrs was willing to donate bone marrow, she was grateful; but when she thought about Purple Sumrs’s reluctance to move into the Simonson household and her desire to sever ties, the old lady was both mortified and angry!

While the old lady was entangled in her inner conflict, Caitlin had already knocked on the hospital room door.

There was no response from inside.

Though in a relatively good mood, the old lady couldn’t help making a sharp remark, “Waiting for so long without acknowledgnt, doesn’t that lack any notion of respect for elders?”

It was as if saying this could cover the embarrassnt in her heart.

Caitlin suggested, “Maybe she’s napping and didn’t hear the knock.”

The door to the room was unlocked, and Caitlin gently pushed it open. Once they saw the situation inside, both were unexpectedly stunned to find.

—— The room was empty.
