Chapter 772: Chapter 772: Looking Back at the Past_P1

Nathaniel Sumrs was here.

He held a newspaper, slowly reading the news to Grandmother.

The news, of course, was about Suzanne Saunders; whenever a case was cracked, there would be news about her in the papers. Not a large piece, but the elderly lady treasured it as if it were a precious gem.

Nathaniel read very slowly, stopping to explain any word the old lady did not understand. The content of 45 to 75 words took a long ti to get through, and by the ti he finished, the old lady had fallen asleep.

Suzanne Saunders tiptoed into the room, placing fruits and a gift box on the table, and spoke to Nathaniel in a hushed tone, “Grandmother fell asleep?”

Nathaniel saw her, his eyes brightened, and he replied with a smile, “Yeah, she’s asleep. Before her nap every day, she has to listen to a story about Ms. Saunders fighting the villains.”

...

Suzanne’s face flushed. What vigilante…

Nathaniel stood up and looked at the gifts she’d brought, a wry smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.

“Grandmother can’t eat mangosteens, they are too cooling. I told you before, did you forget?”

“Ah? Are there mangosteens inside?” Suzanne asked with embarrassnt, “I didn’t know… I bought a fruit package.”

Nathaniel took out the ready-to-eat bird’s nest she bought as well and gently advised her, “Don’t buy these things anymore in the future. They have fancy packaging but are pretty useless. For nutritional products, I’ll prepare them for Grandmother.”

“Isn’t bird’s nest good?” Suzanne asked.

“You bought the ready-to-eat bird’s nest. Rember to check the ingredients list next ti.” Nathaniel took out a bottle and carefully instructed her, “Look, this bottle of bird’s nest has only 20% solids, mostly water, so it’s not very useful… Next ti I’ll have soone bring a batch of dried bird’s nest from Malaysia. That’s better. You should eat so bird’s nest too since you work hard and need replenishnt.”

Suzanne felt ashad. She really wasn’t very good at taking care of people, which led everyone at the nursing ho to think that Nathaniel was Grandmother’s grandson, while she was rely the granddaughter-in-law.

This showed that Nathaniel took much more care of Grandmother on an everyday basis than she did.

“I’m always troubling you. I’m really sorry…” Suzanne murmured, “How much does the bird’s nest cost? I should reimburse you. I can’t keep letting you spend your money needlessly…”

“It’s not needless,” Nathaniel looked at her, his eyes filled with a warm smile, “I do it willingly.”

Suzanne pursed her lips, uncomfortably looking away.

She didn’t dislike Nathaniel, liked him a bit even, but to say love… it seed to fall just short.

Maybe every woman has this kind of confusion? After watching those intense, life-and-death love stories in the movies, when you return to your own ordinary days, you start wondering: Do I love this man in front of ?

What so have is just getting used to each other’s company, so just don’t want to let go, while tears, laughter, anger, and the vicissitudes of life muddle the concept of love. Everyone lives in a daze, who has ti to care about loving soone?

While Suzanne pondered, Grandmother woke up from her nap on the recliner and imdiately smiled upon seeing her granddaughter, “Purple’s here.”

“Did I wake you?” asked Suzanne softly, “Were we speaking too loudly?”

“A little noise is good,” her grandmother said cheerfully, “It’s lively that way.”

Suzanne said, “Then I’ll co to talk to you every day, to keep it lively for you every day.”

Grandmother laughed, “You’re so busy, how could you co every day? Let Nathaniel keep company instead.”

Suzanne felt particularly awkward being censured by her grandmother, “The case I was working on just ended. I’m not that busy anymore…”

“You,” said Grandmother, “if you’re truly not busy, you should hurry up and handle the formalities with Nathaniel. You’re a lady of 25 or 26; it’s ti to get married.”
