Chapter 741: The 741st Chapter: Not Hard to Guess_1
The days of preparing for the banquet were calm and peaceful.
Purple Sumrs went to school as usual and, surprisingly, never bumped into Nathaniel Sumrs again. However, she often encountered Laura Sumrs returning from the company on ti after work.
Laura always held folders or a laptop, looking every bit the diligent white-collar worker. It seed that Nathaniel truly intended to entrust the company to Laura. At least, he had arranged for her to work in the family company in a position that required doing real work, not just a nominal one.
In the evening after school, just after the driver had parked the car, Purple saw Laura return by car as well.
eting face to face, Laura couldn’t avoid her and feigned composure as she greeted her softly, “Little Aunt.”
Laura appeared to be sowhat frightened of Purple, which puzzled her greatly.
“Have you been very busy lately?” Purple initiated a conversation with Laura.
“Um… not too busy, just that I am new to these matters and feel a bit lost on how to proceed.” Laura smiled sheepishly, her attitude very humble, “Most of the work I have to take ho for Uncle Three to teach .”
Purple couldn’t help but ask, “Is he at ho every day?”
Laura nodded matter-of-factly, “Yes, Uncle Three is always at ho. Even when there are matters in the company, he conducts web conferences from ho.”
“Oh, I see…” Purple mused.
The two parted ways, and Purple went back to her cottage alone, her mind filled with doubts.
Nathaniel was too quiet…
So quiet that it was as if he didn’t exist at all.
Thinking this, Purple looked out the window subconsciously—Nathaniel’s room was shrouded with half-drawn curtains, pitch-black without a trace of light.
She laughed at herself mockingly, thinking she just liked to make trouble for herself. Wasn’t Nathaniel’s inactivity exactly what she had hoped for?
…
A few days later, it was Saturday—the day the Sumrs Family held their banquet.
The front hall was filled with guests, and music played lightly and cheerily.
Dylan Sumrs had dressed specially for the occasion, looking dignified and spirited. He greeted the guests with a radiant face, as if he, rather than Purple, had been the one accepted to the research institute.
Laura had also dressed up exquisitely. This was her first formal appearance since her recovery. If she made a good impression, it would be beneficial for her reputation.
Yolanda Sumrs did not show up.
A miscarriage was a great harm to a woman. At the banquet, there was need to socialize, exchange pleasantries, drink alcohol, and even dance in high heels—each activity was exhausting. Yolanda simply claid illness and rested in her room. Of course, for this, she was severely scolded by Dylan.
Purple wore a light purple lace chiffon dress, standing beautifully beside Atra Blanc and greeting familiar guests.
Because most of the guests today were her classmates and friends, Purple’s smile was a few degrees more sincere. She only felt a slight pang of regret that Alexander was still with the hospital.
However, even without Damian Howard’s incident, Alexander would probably have avoided this kind of banquet, since it was possible that he might run into soone who recognized Roy Howard.
As she thought about it, she heard Laura’s clear voice, “Uncle Three, you’ve arrived.”
Purple turned her head to look and saw Nathaniel slowly descending the stairs.
He was dressed all in black: a dark grey shirt underneath, with a black suit and black leather shoes.
When he reached for a drink, his wrist was exposed, revealing that the Swiss watch was gone. In its place was a worn-looking wristband, from which hung several smooth, antique sandalwood beads, also black.
Nathaniel’s eyes were deep and somber, and he exuded an indescribable aura of gloom. As he passed by Purple, he said in a low voice with a smile that was more of a smirk, “Why didn’t Alexander co? Is it because playing a dual role is too exhausting?”
Purple’s heart tightened, and her gaze imdiately grew colder.
“It’s not hard to guess.” Nathaniel laughed, leaning closer to whisper to her, “The only people who know that Jade Carlson called, apart from you and , are Alexander. Before Jade died, she told that she was instructed by the Howard Family. I looked up so photos of the Howard Family head in the news… heh, although there are slight differences between the two, if you look carefully, they are still recognizable.”
